My wife and I used to be regular patrons of Friedman we used to buy home improvement items and we used to love the way we were treated there.. one day, I tried to return a plant that had died and that we had nurtured but for some reason it just did not live and I tried to return it to my amazement. The lady at the return counter said we need to call the plant manager in.. I waited a few minutes and this lady appeared with a skowle on her face after looking at the plant, she immediately said you didn't buy this plant here to which I said my wife just bought it a couple of weeks ago. It has the same label on it... she refused to give me my money back for the plant to which I asked to see a manager. The manager was a little more understanding, but still would not give us a refund to which I looked for a compromise and said, how about if we just exchange it the plant manager was shaking her head, and saying no no no, but the manager stepped and said OK will do that.. I can't believe the gauntlet that they put me through to exchange this plant exchange a plant. I will never buy even a nail at at Friedmans again I cannot believe what they put us through to exchange a GD plant.. there must be gold buried in those plants because these people have taken cheap to a new level ..you just don't treat people that way, I'm still shaking my head now.. the plant manager that gave me grief looked like she was out of a scary Halloween movie

A big shoutout to designer Angela Christianson! We are so pleased with the kitchen sink and counter design that she created. Even though our project was small, Angela was generous with her time, caring, and patient. I'd never embarked on such a project before and small as it was, I found it a bit daunting. Angela put me at ease and exuded confidence. We loved her ideas of adding storage through drawers and a small cabinet. I'd definitely seek her counsel and creativity for the next project. Thanks Angela!

They won the SKU number for each bolt, which I have never done in 40 years of going to the hardware anywhere in the United States, that being said if they want people to do that they need to make a modern label system would you put the number of bolts and nuts that you are getting into a machine that spits out a SKU number type of item you are going to buy

I love this place for all my gardening needs. I have been loyal to the Sonoma location but recently stopped into this Petaluma location and it's huge in comparison with even more variety. What I really like is they carry some of the most reputable brands. I usually come in for some Down to Earth Nutrients but also noticed they have Neptune's Harvest as well. This is also one of the best prices you can find Fox Farm Ocean Forest potting soil. It even goes on sale time to time which drops it close to $11 a bag - a steal from other stores in the bay area that charge mid $20-$30.Employees are always helpful and seek to go beyond many other big box stores. Will keep recommending this place and really would wish they would open up more locations as good gardening supply stores are drying up rapidly

I would like to know where the "helpful" employees in this store (referenced in other reviews...?!) are located because the people I asked simple questions to acted incredibly bothered, not helpful, and seem to hate their jobs. I don't need fake smiles but I definitely don't need to feel like a burden by shopping in your store. I'll drive ten miles out of the way next time and go to Home Depot instead.

I really try to shop local (Friedman's) first, but it has become a 4 time trend to show up at the store after calling ahead and after being VERY VERY SPECIFIC, using correct terminology, and being assured the item I desire is physically in stock at the store, to arrive there and have Mr. Tool Man tell me "Nope, we don't have that. Yes, I'm the one who spoke to you on the phone and said we have it. Sorry we don't carry it. " And then he turns away to help a man waiting for his time. And.... no website catalog yet to counteract this employee issue. You can do much better, Friedman's. This is why Amazon does so well.

Customer service is worse than the big box stores and the prices are higher even when they are "on sale". If you like arrogant employees who act like it's a burden to help customers go here. P.S. the plumbing department takes the cake for worst customer service

Well-stocked and very friendly staff. Nice to see a hardware store that has actual hardware (ya know, bolts 'n stuff) organized and labeled well. Unlike the fat cats at Home Depot corporate who understaff every store and won't let you buy anything without finding the one person working to unlock the rack for you, Friedman's makes home improvement a real home run!

Great home improvement store! Excellent alternative to the big guys, and a great plant display on the front facing wall.

Maybe their motto should be " if we don't have it we must have forgotten to order it " instead of "if we don't have it you don't need it ". Just a larger Wilco but Petaluma has little choice .

When I'm in need of anything for a DIY home project, Friedman's is my go-to destination to find most of what I need. Although it's relatively large (compared to the Ace hardware, for example), it's way smaller than Home Depot, so they simply don't have the floor space to carry the diversity of products you find at the bigger stores. Pricing-wise, Friedman's is also a little more expensive, most likely because they don't have the same buying power as the larger chains. That being said, I still love shopping here and supporting our locally owned businesses whenever possible.I find it reasonably straightforward to find what I need, but have not had the same experience as other reviewers that found it difficult to locate an associate for help. Usually when I'm browsing, I'll get approached and asked if I need any help--but maybe I just look less handy and potentially in greater need of assistance :PI have two minor complaints, though. The first is that electrical supplies are pretty limited. They probably have 1/4 or less of the inventory of Home Depot and 1/10 of a supply house. If you're looking for a niche part, you're unlikely to find it here. I am likely biased because most of my DIY work is electrical.Second, it's not possible to search online if a location has a particular product. You have to go there and spend time looking, or call first. With HD, I can check inventory in near real-time so I can decide whether or not to make the trip. Hopefully, this is something they'll improve with time.
