I'm going to update this. They refunded the money for shipping and I had insurance on the bike so it worked out okay. Again, I think the store staff is really friendly and helpful but their boxing needs improvement. My review is only for the shipping.

Kids grow out of bikes so fast you don’t need a top of the line BMX. I took my bike in and they said they couldn’t fix it as in “tried” but did not have the skill they then recommended I should buy a new one. I like for my son to have quality and safe bikes but this seems to be a sales store not proper mechanics. Even just a regular guy like myself took 10 minutes to do what they said couldn’t figure out. Just a few Amazon parts and bike is back on the road.

On a long ride today from San Rafael to the coast and my AXS battery ran out of juice 4 miles in, luckily there was a Mike's Bikes shop in Petaluma where I figured I could stop in and get a quick charge, I just needed enough of charge so I can switch out of my toughest gear for the rest of the ride at least. When my buddy and I walked in, we were very warmly greeted by the staff immediately. Jeff and Ian were in the back of the shop working on bikes when we walked in, they stopped what they were doing to help us. Jeff charged both my spare and derailleur battery, while doing so both Jeff and Ian took the time to explain routes and riding styles, they then brought out their own personal Banana bread and shared it with us (it was delicious!!) and before we left they discussed some racing, some fitting tips and showed us what web pages to look up for the best ride routes in the area. Just an over all great experience with real bike guys that know their stuff, I would def recommend these guys if you need anything Bike related.

Mikes bikes Petaluma has by far the most friendly staff compared to other bike shops in town. genuine friendliness goes a long way. also its really nice to explore a vast selection of companies that AREN'T specialized. Ive purchased 9 bikes over the past 4 years and spent > $30,000 on bikes and gear in that time. Mikes bikes is the best place to spend that money lol...

I brought my mountain bike into these guys close to a year ago, it was my friends 40th birthday and he planned a bike trip. I pulled the old Santa Cruz hardtail out of retirement and decided a service would be in order. Full disclosure I am not a die hard mountain biker, I'm just a regular dude who likes to go for a ride occasionally. Because of this I am very much at the mercy of these "experts" when it comes to any sort of advise. You would hope they would give you honest feedback and advise, especially considering its the people like myself that need it the most. Emily who works in their shop called and quickly convinced me that $700 would be in order as the bike should be upgraded to tubeless tires and needed new brakes and various other costs I couldn't understand. In a nut shell the tires have never held air since doing this so called "upgrade"!!! Ever!! I have brought the bike back into them multiple times and every time they talk to me like I'm a dumb ass and I should have known that you have to ride it all the time and the liquid dries out within a day apparently and every other excuse in the book. Instead of tubeless tires they should have called them airless tires. literally the bike has never held air overnight! They even kept the bike in the shop for two weeks and I would call and they would go check and say the tires were flat again. Finally they called and sent it home with me saying they had fixed the problem and suprise suprise the next day they were flat again. The manager said they could sell me tubes back, what a terrible company honestly. All they had to do was fix the problem. They have actually prevented me from riding my bike for almost a year haha seems super counter productive if your in the bike business. There is an air of snobbiness that I didn't need to deal with either, you guys sell bikes!! And yes you work on them too and not very well If I must say. Your one step up from a car dealership, get over yourself and take care of your customers. Mainly Charlie the manager, glad you don't work for my business is all I can say.

We had an equipment issue while traveling and stopped in this store. CHARLIE was excellent at helping us, and getting us back on the road soon. We really enjoyed the store, and if we were buying bikes, we would go here first for the selections and equipment. but the Service was truly great!!

We just had a stellar experience today with Lexie at Mike's Bikes. She was so knowledgable and super sweet and extremely personable. It didn't just feel like a transaction, it felt personal and kind. This is our second time buying a bike at Mike's and we will be back soon for our other kids new bike. Hopefully Lexie will be there to help us again!!

Bought my Specialized Stump Jumper from Mike's over three years ago and purchased the maintnance plan at the same time. Best money ever spent. I bring my bike in regularly for tune ups and have twice done the Pro Tune. The shop mechanics and the Manager Jeff are AMAZING and have never had a problem with them. They are honest on what may need to be replaced on my bike, they never try to oversell anything, and care about you. Highly recommend Mike's Bikes of Petaluma.

I was a little worried walking in so close to closing time. My bike had lost its pedal and I was hoping Mikes Bikes could fix it. I was greeted with a smile and helpful direction to the back for the service area. I walked past another friendly face and greeting. At the service area yet again a friendly hello, how can I help you! They were able to put my pedal back on in no time! I'm so grateful!! Thank you Mike's Bikes!

Based on my past positive experiences at Mikes Bikes in Petaluma, I recently purchased a new Giant TCR from them, and again, they didn't disappoint. Mike sold me the bike and was exceptional in terms of making sure everything was squared away. I couldn't be happier. I highly recommend Mikes Bikes of Petaluma

I'll never shop at this store or chain ever again, f this place. After buying multiple bikes from them I found a high end e-mtb on their website and called to inquire. They ordered it to the store but before it ever arrived I was informed that someone else had purchased it and there were no others in their inventory. When I pressed them about what a bad customer experience it was I was simply told it was company policy and there was nothing that could be done. Understanding that's the case, they should set this expectation up front and make it clear that just because they order a bike for you to check out at the local store, it means nothing unless you purchase it. Clear communications and expectations go a long way and there are literally thousands of other bike shops to spend my money at. If you're going to sell $10k bikes, don't jerk people around. Knowing what I know now I likely would've bought the bike but was never even given the opportunity to do so.

Best bike shop in Petaluma! Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable. Thats a hard combination to find anymore. Retail stores are having a hard time finding help, yet Mikes Bikes has maintained its reputation as a top notch shop. Thanks!
