Worse Safeway was in Oakland where they got metal gates and one way direction in and out of store like herding cattle. Glad I had no part of living in Oakland. Now pittsburg has joined them. Why the heck put up gates and metal detectors or some sensor...ridiculous. hire a security guard that won't be chatting with Safeway staff hanging out like buddies or stuck looking at their cellphones. Get someone that will actually look up and watch for thieves. Won't be returning even when it's only down the street.

The ONLY thing good about this Safeway if their pharmacy. I waited in line for 15 min in their deli department. When someone finally came she told me "oh no honey, I don't do meats...". They just aren't helpful...I'd rather make the extra 15 min drive and go to Raleys in Brentwood...oh, their meats are pretty gross too...

Husband went there a few weeks ago to order a cake. Waited 20 minutes, no one came. He went to customer service and they called someone. Fifteen more minutes and still, no one came. As we he walking out, he noticed flies in the deli. Glad now that we couldn't order a cake.

Me and my family go to this location for convenience but that all stops today as we've had too many bad experiences with the quality of food sold here. Me alone, I have brought molded loaves of bread to management while shopping so no one would accidentally purchase and they seemed annoyed and dismissive. My mom has gotten shrimp from the seafood department and when she put it in the pan to cook it smelled horrible because they were spoiled. We bought frozen party wings that were also spoiled. We bought Provolone cheese that was expired and moldy. And lastly today we bought the frozen potato skins and after eating pretty much the entire potato I noticed a green hue between the skin and the potato. When I removed the potato I found mold yet again! We gave this location plenty of chances. The funny part is there are always workers in the way of the shoppers stocking the shelves, so how are they missing all of these bad packages?.. There has also been numerous times where I've felt uncomfortable using self checkout as if anything there is worth stealing..I only started going to self checkout to avoid the rude cashiers. Money spent and gas goes down the drain and customers health is very much compromised! My family and I don't have these problems at any other location. Overall 0 out of any number is what I would rate this store. They need like health inspections or something idk.

Where do I start?? Well tonight, my husband picked up a bag frozen party wings for dinner tonight. He opened the bag and instantly we knew the chicken was bad!! Not to mention just last week, I had to return to this same store spoiled shrimp. (42 dollars worth) So disgusting! A few days later my daughter purchased a package of cheese that was molded! Also, the cold box that holds cheese smells like mold and has now for months! I made staff aware but nothing has changed. This store compared to the Concord stores, is sad. The meat selection is beyond limited, bread always empty. Unless it's a last minute need to go, I will travel to the Concord store. Definitely will not buy meat from this store after tonight. Oh, let's not dorget how the some of the employees are VERY unprofessional. I was being checked out and a female safeway employee decided that it would be ok to walk up and start a random conversation with my cashier as he checked me out. Boldly, for at least 2 minutes before I expressed to her that it was rude and inappropriate. She immediately caught a attitude as if I was wrong. She even went back and forth with me. Just as I explained to her what could happen, and it did!! I was charged twice for my sodas. She works the closing shift. She is Caucasian, on the heavy side with PURPLE HAIR!! No apology, they both looked at me like I was the problem. One last thing, whenever I use self check out I feel so uncomfortable. They stand there and stare you down like you are on a prison yard. The AUDACITY!! I predict this store being shut down in the near future. As it should!!!!

I wanted to pick up groceries from Safeway next to my home and checked their hours to see they close at 12 AM. I arrived around 11:45 PM and I said to myself I need to be quick they close at 12:00 AM. I walk up to the first door and it doesn't open. Walk to the next door, also doesn't open. I check the hours on my phone and it says their open... huh??? I see people leaving the store at the doors next to me and I am confused... i double check the hours and it says their open... I decide I'm going to go through the exit door because the store is supposed to be open...I walk in and hear over the intercom the store is closing in 5 minutes bring your purchases to the register... 1) why was the door locked 2) it's not 5 minutes to midnight yet... I pick up what I can quickly get for the evening and go to the register because I I want to eat ... I meet the manager Abigail who rings me out... I ask her to What time they close and she said midnight... I then say the front doors didn't open and she says... "you have to push them..." ?? Unless the power is out I don't try to attempt to get into a grocery store who for the last 40 years of my experience has automatic doors??? Am I wrong? Having worked for "longs drugs" which no longer exists I know you can disable the automatic open but... if I wasn't really hungry I would have left... do your job... abide by your hours... someone oversee Abigail she needs training.... 7-24-2023 nothings changed ... she's still locking up early...

This Safeway location is very outdated! Their refrigerators are too old and rusty. Most of times it is broken. The store is very dirty . Outside and inside! It is needed to have its power washed once a while( looks like it was never cleaned before). There has been a vomit next to one of entrance and it has been there for over a week and they don't clean! One of the doors is always broken and they don't fix or change it. Bathrooms are nasty and sometime they just put carts full of breads right next to the public restrooms and left it there for a couple of days.

Have had nothing but kind and warm experiences from cashiers and other workers at this location, but it still is ran very inefficiently. This is the only grocery store for thousands of people in the area and there's a huge lack in staffing & adequate budgeting (?) for this store, it really is sad. Shelves/hot bar are constantly cleaned out and have nobody tending to them. Store is designed to face pastries, bread & quick service food vs. walnut creek location faces fresh produce & flowers... very odd design choices I have to question..? Liquor and wine are completely closed off & locked away as if we are a community of criminals & are dependent on one cashier working near to retrieve, holding up the line even further

We just had a neighborhood meeting and one of the topics was that we are getting a Sprouts in San Marco. That was meet with a huge round of applause equally mixed with how bad this Safeway has become. I only use self checkout and last Sunday while I was checking myself out, a woman who was using a stick to remove items that had fallen in between cracks in the checkout area would not even move for me nor did she acknowledge me in anyway. I do not expect a greeting as no one has ever said hello in the 50-60 times I have checkout there anyways. Furthermore, in December, a price came up wrong and the woman who was flirting with security huff and puffed, swiped her badge and walked back again without saying a word. Despite Safeway having head quarters in the Bay Area, clearly they do not do mystery shops and if they do, there is no interest in customer service. I have about 40 other San Marco residents that feel the same way. Good luck Safeway. Update: Thanks for reaching out Safeway. I don't think that I need to contact you. On behalf of the community, please just change the culture and communicate to employees that we just want to shop in a pleasant environment as it is "home" to us. I would suggest to store leadership to maybe monitor the cameras from time to time and maybe have store leadership from sister stores "shop" each other and provide feedback. If employees are unhappy find out why. Find out how to make them happy at work. I would be glad to update this review if my neighbors and I see a difference. Thanks!

The customer service is not the best. Always check your receipt. Items are always placed in the wrong spot making you believe you are getting a good deal but when you check out you end up paying more. When you mention it to the people in customer service they make you go back to prove their mistake and you still don't get compensated for their mistake.

This is the only grocery store in the San Marco area, a neighborhood with million dollar houses, and it's filthy and run down. It's a 50% chance that they are out of stock on some items that I intend to purchase. I am not talking about anything special either - keto yogurt, fresh basil, Walden syrup. The floors in the fresh vegetable area are usually dirty. Employees who should be bringing in carts for customers, "hang out" where the carts are collected in the parking lot. Speaking of carts, they never have baskets or carts on the south entrance. On my way to a funeral, I bought a $100 bouquet of flowers and they were out of the decorative boxes to stabilize during the car ride. You can guess what happened from there. They had the blank cards, but didn't have the extra long sticks to place it in arrangement. The lines are often long, not enough employees. There is always something wrong at this store. I have started to shop at Safeway and Whole Foods in Concord. The district manager really needs to overhaul that store. If there was a Whole Foods or another competitor in the neighborhood, it would make them improve their quality.
