During the worst storms, they let my tanks go dry. I switched to Hunt propane, I'm saving $2.00 or more per gallon.
Suburban is way more expensive with worse customer service and they are content to let you freeze in the winter.

I have been working with suburban propane for years and here is my honest review. I implore everyone considering them to run to literally any other company. They overcharge randomly, make deliveries when they don't need to/charge extra fees and then don't make deliveries for MONTHS because they "don't have technicians or staff in the office", and many people have reported this but I have also experienced the issue with "guestimating" the meter and being charged the exact same amount as the last billing cycle even when I used LESS propane since the last bill. Once they even accidentally credited a ton of propane to my account and when I called them asking why I hadn't received a bill for a few months they said "whoops well your back bills are actually $xxx.xx and we need it paid today" like wow what a great reward for asking questions. Should have just ignored the missing bills forever. They have a long track record of awful bookkeeping and concerningly inaccurate bills. My suggestion would be to avoid this company at all costs. Their call centers are in Washington or something and the people there can't help with anything and say that only your local office has the power to fix anything. They just "send messages" to your local office that DOESNT EVER ANSWER THE PHONE. The call centers are deeply unhelpful and I presume they only exist to make new accounts but can't actually provide any support for real issues. If you ever do come across a billing or service issue, expect it to be "messaged" to your local office and they will hopefully get back to you in 7 business days. I have gotten lucky maybe once or twice and gotten a call back within a day or two, but mostly they are too busy or understaffed to reach out swiftly. Considering the history of their reviews, these issues are not a new problem. I truly hope they improve their service and integrity because this is unbelievable.

If they had a way of issuing negative stars, I would certainly give this company those. This is the most unprofessional, most unreliable, and most dishonest company I have ever dealt with. Not only do they steal your money and illegal business billing practices but if they don't like you, they'll come shut your gas off without warning like they did me because I was posting about them on the Internet. Run from this company. Choose another propane company. They are the worst people you can deal with.

Suburban has let us run out of propane 4 times. Twice in the last 3 months. We’re supposed to be on a regular schedule but their having “scheduling issues”. They absolutely refuse to refill our tank in a timely manner after they let us run out. It’s 32 degrees and snowing and they will let us freeze for days at a time. No apologies no compunction. Supervisor doesn’t bother to call, leaves it to the front desk person that is indifferent. Horrible service, abysmal customer service. Do NOT use this company for your propane.

Don’t do business with these guys! They price gouge you and let your tank run dry. I am on a scheduled delivery and they let my tank run dry which lets propane leak from my water heater that is in the garage. I called them so they can send out their on call delivery driver to come fill my tank being that my propane supplies my heating, water heater and my stove top and oven. Andrew the on call delivery driver called me and told me “ I don’t drive bobtails so I can’t fill your tank”. This was confusing why Suburban propane would have a emergency on call delivery driver in a position where he can’t do the job.” Andrew then proceeded to tell me “ I’ll call my supervisor Jim and let him know to do it tomorrow”. When I asked him to have Jim call me he said “ I’ll tell him but it doesn’t mean he’s going to call you”. When I told him “ok well I guess I’ll call the call center again”. In the rudest tone he said “ yeah go ahead. Call them”. This is just one incident. The last time they ran my tank dry they tried to charge me $9.21 a gallon. The price of their propane was almost 3 times that of all the other propane companies in the same area. I have a 500 gallon tank so you could imagine my surprise when the driver handed me the receipt. When I called them to correct the pricing the office assistant that answered the phone let it slip in our conversation that my previous fill up was $7.58 a gallon. This company is a nightmare. When I bought my house the previous owner used Suburban Propane and the tank was on a lease contract. I Don’t have a contract with them. The tank is also buried under ground on the corner of my property. At this point I want them to come excavate the tank so I can purchase one to own and utilize either Kamps Propane or 49er Propane in Placerville,CA. They seem to have better reviews.

Apparently they haven’t had anyone available to read meters so they just did a guesstimate on my propane bill for a 3 month period. My bill is usually $35-$60 a month. I received a bill for $1200. They have no explanation for any of this and thank goodness for the HEAP program. They paid my bill in full. I am watching very carefully now.

This was the worst customer service I have ever received in my 50 years of life. This company took my order and scheduled a delivery that never came. I called and they said unapologetically, that they thought they put in the order but forgot. They did not call to alert me of this I had to call. When I did they told me this and said that they could not deliver until 4 days later. This was in the middle of winter and we had no hot water, gas appliances, or heat. The delivery that was now to be a week late also never came due to weather conditions. It was postponed until Thursday. When that did not show up they told me Friday. It came on Friday and I was there to receive it. I asked the driver if he needed to light the pilot and he said no, I was good. I was not good. I went into the house and turned on the appliances to see that there was no gas. I called again and they said they would send someone out. The driver came and left without calling or making an any attempt to get in touch. The gate was unlocked, and I was looking out the window liberally due to the urgency of the situation. So if he came he was a ninja. I called again an hour and a half later. This was after hours and they said they would have someone call me. He did and was extremely aggressive and rude, claiming I wasn't there and there was nothing in the world that would bring him back out. I pleaded with him and offered him a tip of $100 and he would not come out. It was literally 20 minutes from his location. He suggested I do it myself and to read the manual. I asked if he could walk me through it and he hung up. Now I will have to pay an emergency rate of $255 just to have them come out and do something they should have done when I asked them. Words cannot express how unbelievable this interaction was.

Apparently there weren’t drivers available to check my meter for several months. I kept receiving statements and I would pay what it was but I didn’t check it to see if it had gas on it. Finally I get a bill for $2300 and they want that amount in five months. There’s no way I can do that. I don’t believe I should’ve had to pay the full amount because of their inability to do their jobs. Nothing was communicated to me that there was a problem reading my meter. So that I can make plans for having that amount of money when it came time. They want me to pay for all that inconvenience and they’re going to turn it off when i told him I cannot make the payment for regular services and that too. Horrible service. Will find new propane provider.

Had an appt today from 8-12, they even called to confirm on Monday. No call no show. I call number, on hold, recording 1st says less than 10 minutes, then it says less that 15, then less than 25 before anyone can talk to me.
