My parents come here all of the time and send me stuff from Carolina. I absolutely love her stuff, and am constantly asking my mom to go here and get me glitter etc. highly recommend coming here, such a fun place I wish I could go but I live in FL!

I cannot say enough positive things about Carolina. I vibed with her right away. She puts off such good energy. Wonder customer service. The store itself is beautiful. Love the hand made clothes. If you are ever in downtown Placerville, I highly recommend stopping in the store and saying hello to Carolina. You will be glad you did. I bought a really cool dress and a funky cool bottom. I’m obsessed! Good quality handmade clothing. Most clothing is F. Fits most.

A great place to get any clothing that you want. I got incense sticks & I use them every other day to make my living room smell nice. The owner & her assistant are sweet ladies.

Stephanie B needs to get over her woke self. My grandmother was Romani and actually of the "gypsy" people and she and my aunts and cousins actually called themselves that. I don't find it derogative at all. And also don't presume the "white woman" doesn't possess that heritage. I'm white and I've got loads of the blood in me. So quit judging when you don't know the whole story.

What a great shopping experience today. I've noticed this shop over the 4 years living here, but never stepped foot inside. Today I was shopping for a person who's challenging to buy for and decided to give Empress a shot. I'm so happy I did! Eclectic doesn't really do justice to this store. It is boho, sexy, esoteric, dazzling and everything in between. So many little accessories to look at, unique clothing, and spiritual items. The store owner is incredibly kind and was very helpful while helping me select gifts. She was also kind to my toddler, whom was well past nap time. I previously read a couple reviews that were negative. All I have to say is that some people just want to complain and be unhappy. I watched a few people walk in and out the door and the owner was nothing but gracious to them all. There are more subdued clothing items in the shop if you aren't into the boho glam/gypsy styling. I'd 100% recommend anyone to stop in take a look!

"The world famous gypsy palace" is a weird sign to put up in front of your business, considering that gypsy has been a slur used to oppress Romani people since the 1300s and is still used as a slur against Roma and Romanian people. Using the word gypsy is just as bad as saying any other slur. It's even more weird how a white women is profiting off the "gypsy aesthetic." It's Honestly just gross and ignorant how Caroline Smith can easily profit off of an oppressed ethnic minority's culture and play even more into their stereotypes of being the fortune teller, the free spirit, and the seductress. Yet everyone that supports her shop doesn't blink an eye to how harmful this is??

I felt like I was on a episode of what would you do. On 8/5 me and my family walked into this store where we were completely ignored the person behind the counter was on the phone the whole time entire time we were there did not once greet us or asked if we needed anything we were looking at the jewelry right next to her and still not once a would you like to see anything? We asked her if we could see a item she handed it to use and resumed her phone conversation apologizing to the person on the other line like if we weren't paying customers in front of her while she is having this personal conversation. She was on the phone up until a white customer walked in then she quickly got off the phone and tended to her. When I finally got fed up with this discrimination they both looked at me like I was the crazy ma'am we were in your store for 15+ minutes with no help if my mom didn't have her eyes set already on this beautiful necklace I would've personally never given this place my money!

My fiancé and I spent an hour in the store, chatting with the fabulously fun woman behind the register. There was so much to look at. So many treasures. I bought Día de los Muertos statues, a silk scarf and incense. I was tempted to buy so much more. We're definitely going back! I recommend this place to anyone who likes whimsical trinkets, fun costumes and vintage wear. Say "hi" to Julie!

It isn't often that a shop makes me truly happy, but Empress did just that! We were lucky enough to find Empress when taking a rest stop in Placerville while on a road trip. Simply lovely shop! Items for every price range. My husband even found a scarf! We will be back~

Literally my most favorite store in the entire world. Carolina is amazing and her store has pretty much everything you could want. The jewelry is perfect the clothing selections too! There’s a ton of cute magical items!!!
