Have been eating at Mt Shasta location for 15 years when I visit. Always great in service, the style of food, quality and ease to get in / be seated. I have given that location 5 stars review. I’ll still give 5 to corp HQ even though I emailed about 1 year ago never heard back - that I am aware of. Thanks for the BBClub programs too.Basically:What I can, and should eat, has changed over the years and as well as for what is good for the planet. It would be great if you guys could just add a little note on the top of the menu that would allow for an up charge to add a product like impossible or beyond meat or a similar private branded product as a substitution (which you already do this for other subs). Additionally, carrying some ranch dressing that is in a bottle so for those of us who can’t or don’t eat pork, so we can still have ranch dressing. Lastly, I know this is possibly a bit of work, Please consider using a plant-based meat as the meat base flavoring for the cream gravy. The gravy is a comfort staple and goes with so many items; if it is plant based, then a lot more options on the menu open up. The first two are very easy to implement, the last one a little bit more involved, but all three of these changes would make it to where myself and I’m sure a lot of others could enjoy much more of the menu and more often. Currently, the Dr Preagers patty product has no relevance to tasting like a burger or ground beef or even good in my opinion; many other vegetarians ALSO think so as well. It’s a veg patty - not a plant sub for beef by any stretch. It’s Not on brand or looks or flavor-wise for Black Bear. And honestly I don’t like it.Please consider and see what you can update. Also these can become legitimate points for your animal welfare initiative as well as being plant positive options available.Thank you for doing a great job all these years and growing the locations so well. This attached picture of your crazy ginormous biscuits is for others info (I bring my own bottle of ranch into eat so size reference).

So I used to stop at this restaurant often when traveling to Northern CA. It was generally always pretty good. Was there yesterday, Saturday and boy, it has slipped. Service was not that great. Seemed pretty disorganized in fact. Didn't see the waitress hardly at all during the meal. And the food, I had roast beef, was really not very good at all. Once upon a time, Black Bear had great food and large portions. Now, well the portions are still there but the food? Seemed like all the seasoning was McCrormicks or out of some kind of food service flavors packet. The gravy was not particularly complimenting the roast beef, I mean come on, it should boost the dish. Nope. The corn muffin was not fresh. And my pet peeve? Well, if you are going to charge $4 for a cup of coffee, shouldn't it be fresh and not scorched after sitting for a while? Restaurants often "marry" their coffee, that is, combine pots of older with newly brewed. This was a bad marriage. I had asked for fresh and was assured, oh, yeah, just made. Well, when you do the creamer test, that is, pour one of those creamers in and there is no color change at all, that's a bit of a giveaway. Not good. Will likely find another place to stop at when driving through Redding.

We stopped by for breakfast on the way to Oregon. Their were plenty of parking and it's located near a gas station and the 99 cent store. Quite a few sketchy people walked by. Nonetheless, this is a good option for a hearty breakfast with their generous portion as were as reasonable prices. I was satisfied with my French toast combo and a cup of hot coffee.

Staff great. Food has gone downhill. My omelette was so over cooked, I opened it and it was burnt and had been folded over to hide it. The biscuit, omg, was so hard on the outside, unedible. Hadn't been to the redding one in awhile. Now I remember why.

Wow. That's all I can really say after our visit today. We came early expecting a wait, breakfast on a Saturday morning, seems like a no brainer. And man we got what we bargained for! Our waitress (was she though? I'm not 100% sure with how infrequently we saw her) kept giving us this excuse that the "computers were down"... ok. Well, if you notice a restaurant full of customers without food let's cue our critical thinking skills! Maybe paper record keeping? I dislike being THAT customer but with two screaming kids and cold food, you have to call a spade a spade. I'm a nurse. I rely on computers for a lot of my job. But when all else fails and said computer crashes... nursing is still nursing and serving food is still serving food. Get it together. I know, first world problems.

I stopped here when visiting Redding last Thursday (5/25/23). I ordered the chicken fried steak dinner and chicken noodle soup. The chicken noodle soup was good. It was generous with the chicken, vegetables, and noodles. The broth was rich. I also got a cornbread muffin. For my dinner, I got the chicken fried steak with garlic mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. A chicken fried steak is a hamburger patty prepared like fried chicken strips. It was good, but I do prefer ordering meatloaf or pot roast. The service was quick and orderly. The atmosphere was nice like the other Black Bear Diners I've dined. These restaurants are consistent, and they are good choices for travelers in the western United States.

We love the Black Bear Diner. This place makes amazing food! It's does breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and all of it is good! Our favorite thing to get here, though, is either their chocolate cake or their milk shakes. This is a true diner experience, in the very best way!

We have been to this restaurant a few times while driving to Portland or returning home. Our meals and the service are always very good. We both chose from the smaller portion section and were not disappointed. We ordered the Pot Roast and Tri-Tip dinners and really enjoyed both of them. Our server, Melissa was excellent.

Tbh, I'm thinking about going there this morning & I started to think, I usually only order the Volcano but on my last visit I got the steak n shrimp and I was kinda disappointed. In my experience with this location, the safest bet is breakfast food.

Good food, but gets really busy. Nice staff and good prices for a diner type meal. Very large portions, enough for two meals.
