Went on our first date to Redondo Beach Pier in 1993 and stopped in at Kobe Pearl to try our Luck. We got a beautiful gold pearl that I later had made into a one of a kind Gold ring at my jewelers, to celebrate our anniversary. We have been back several times to celebrate our anniversary and have a beautiful collection of quality pearls. Going to make a pendant, earrings or bracelet next. Great memories

This was my first time choosing and oyster and to get a pearl. You pay $13 and some change for each individual oyster and you have a chance at getting one pearl or the day I was there some had gotten three in one oyster. Once you choose your oyster they open it on the spot for you to see. Once all of the oyster you have chosen are open you are asked to go inside and they evaluate the color, size and appraise the value of the pearl and give you a slip with all the information. You are able to add it to a necklace, ring, etc. for an additional cost. I opted to put one of the pearls on a simple necklace for $26. They tell you to come back in thirty minutes to set in on to the necklace, ring, etc. If you choose not to do they they let you know you have the option to come back at a later date to do so. This was such a fun experience the staff was really nice and for two oysters and necklace it was $59. Remember you are paying for the oysters (approx. 13+ tax ea.) and the additional cost if you choose to set it (price varies) Not the pearls. Great experience would definitely recommend.

When I was a kid (20+ years ago) I remember coming here and loving the experience. I finally brought my kids to check it out for themselves… the experience was just as amazing!

My very first time here but my spouse is a local and took me to surprise me at rhis smal but super busy pearl shop! The man who helped me was so kind, patient, and nice to answer some questions I had and added so much joy and happiness to our experience!! We ended up with our very 1st family jewelry to pass down to our child, and another pearl to bring back later for another jewelry setting!! I LOVE the beach pier, but specially this shop when we can splurge a bit to catch a unique pearl!! No wonder they're always busy, such a great experience and service is ??

My wife and I really missed you at the LA County fair in Pomona this year 2023. We have been getting pearls from the Kobe booth every year for about 30 years at the fair. Hopefully they'll be back next year.

The older guy was a bit rude towards my 8 year old nephew. My nephew asked several questions about the pearl and he kept telling him '' Could you wait please'' in a rude matter. My nephew also asked ''Are they real?'' and he said, ''Are you serious?'' Please be more patient towards kids and at least respond in a polite way. This behavior was very unprofessional.

My husband and I had the best time at this spot. What a fun, unique, and interactive experience! We got to pick our clam with Ron and he opened it up for us and shared a little bit about the history of the business. I got this beautiful cream gold pearl that was valued at $76 and I only paid $13 for the pearl! We had them set the pearl in a silver ring. They have a constant flow of customers that come by and they're extremely friendly and kind to everyone.

*I could not recommend this place enough and really ask if you are a visitor in the the area of LA make this place a destination spot! * This is a full circle moment for me coming here. Given that I was born in Redondo Beach I will always support anything here! I remember being about 7 years old and walking on the pier with my family many many times. I always noticed this spot and could only wish to have an experience here and be able to pick my own pearl oyster. Well many many many years later I decided to come back to this place. We first stoped to get some chowder and then I kid you not I could not remember where this place was nor if it still existed. I kept on walking and walking and walking and before you know it I am standing right in front of this place and my jaw drops. It has not changed and I'm getting a flood of memories. I'm so over joyed and then Blayne starts talking to me and I tell him I remember being a kid and seeing this place many times only wishing to be able to get my own pearl. Side note Blayne is such an amazing person ! He was super kind and it very easy to connect with. It made my families time in California very special and it's an experience I will ever ever forget so thank you! Okay so at this point my daughter has been talking about wanting her own Pearl as a Christmas gift given it's one of her birthstones so it's very special she gets one here. Blayne explained that these oyster are shipped from Japan and we are looking at 5 years of work! She is given some wooden tongs and picks an oyster. Blayne explains that there can be colored ones that are like pastel colors but never neon as some or put out on social media. Also that some can have 2 or 1 pearls. She picks one with 1 pearl and her reaction is simply amazing. I couldn't help but want my own and I grab the tongs and close my eyes do a little prayer and pick one and you guys Blayne opens it and there are 2 pearls and one of them is slightly pink. He cleans them up and evaluates them and outs puts them in a little bag and I'm just like processing you know what my 7 year old self would think if she saw me now. Inside you have options to make them into jewelry if you'd like. Thank you Blayne for everything!

This place is a hidden gem (pun intended)! The whole experience is fun and exciting from the moment you choose an oyster to the moment of discovering what color your pearl is. Plus, the guy who assisted us was very helpful, friendly, and NOT pushy to set the pearl like other places (like a certain pearl shop franchise). Anyone visiting the pier should stop by! I will definitely be visiting when I'm in the area again.

During a visit to Redondo Beach Pier for my birthday to have dinner, my husband and I took a walk around the pier and discovered this little hidden gem. We noticed a couple standing in front of a fish tank in front of the Kobe Pearl & Gem. Our curiosity led us to create this beautiful pendant we were able to create from just two oysters we picked for one another. The irony in all of this is we are soon to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary on12-12-22 and the pearl represents the 30th. Each pearl will represent 10 years together for us. To say this was a great experience would diminish the feelings we will forever cherish from visiting Kobe Pearl and Gem. I also have to add the customer service was exceptional and just added another positive layer to our experience.
