Seasons at Redondo Beach is a lovely senior community. There are apartments that look like cottages along winding pathways, surrounded by gardens and trees. It has been here for about 30 years and until recently was well maintained and managed. About 2 years ago the property management company changed to Aperto. Everything has been falling apart since that time. The onsite management is completely unresponsive. The maintenance is non-existent (This is even before the Coronavirus shutdown and now it is worse.) Everything is done in the cheapest way possible now, without any thought for how it impacts the residents. It is interesting that the excuse given is "to save money" when this is a government subsidized property. It seems they are saving the money for themselves and causing seniors on fixed incomes to suffer the consequences. The latest insult to the residents is that without warning the maintenance manager, Darryl, turned off the pool heater. His excuse was that now the weather was down to 40 degrees at night, which happens every winter. The pool has always been heated during winter. The residents rely on this feature for their aquatic therapy, to help their aches and pains, for mental health, and for daily exercise. Most residents cannot drive and are limited to onsite exercise. It is abusive and wrong to take exercise away from seniors during a pandemic, when health maintenance is so important to survival. It is as if Darryl is trying to kill off the residents by taking this last activity from them. In any case, the property had already turned off the pool for 3 months at the beginning of the pandemic shutdown, and has saved all the money they needed at that time. They advertise a year round heated pool but do not deliver. This is just abusive! Also, if you are interested in renting a unit at Seasons, don't bother. They are so lazy and unresponsive in the rental office that you could find another apartment and move in before Seasons even called you back. The real reason they might want to "save money" is that multiple units go vacant for months on end, even though there is a list of people eager to move in. Again, this is a new situation caused by Aperto Property Management, because when Arlene was the manager, this never happened. She was energetic and showed units as soon as they became vacant. She also made sure that the property was fresh and bright and well maintained. My advice is to avoid any property managed by Aperto, and specifically stay away from Seasons at Redondo, unless you like to deal with endless headaches.
