After my two late cats passed, I took some time to cherish their memories but decided one day I was ready to give my life to serve a couple more of these beautiful, loving creatures! There were a few rescues on my list but Whis-Purr was most conveniently close. They're attached to a feed store. So I assumed I could just walk-in and visit the cats. Instead, I was directed to the card on the bulletin board to call and make an appointment and/or send an email. I did both and was asked fill out an application to adopt. So, they knew what sort of cats I was looking for and to know a bit about me being a potential cat owner. I appreciate this initial screening process as it's the first step in protecting the cats and their future forever home. I was elated to return and visit some kitties on the same day after sending my application. Lucy met me at the door and let me sit in various cages with the kittens and cats. I took a photo of my (now my kitty) Sage at the window and was most interested in the spotted tabbies with their bengal/ocicat look. However, once I went in other cages and met the other kittens and cats, my decision became more difficult. All the cats and kittens I met were extremely friendly and loving. It was a clear indication that Whis-Purr takes excellent care of all their cats. They have fancy set-ups in their cages with lots of toys, places to climb and even some tunnels to run around up top from cage to cage. Lucy explained to me they are also adopted out together based on their connections which makes total sense. She's very protective of all the felines and explained the kittens are not adopted out until four months (if I can recall correctly). So, if you see one too young you are interested in, you will have to wait until they're old enough. I had previously adopted very young kittens and have lived through the beginning months when they can get into everything, and they constantly need a watchful eye. So I think this is a good policy. I met three different sets of cats and ultimately decided on some 8 month old sister and brother kittens - Sage & Simon. Despite getting a great feeling from the other cats and kittens, I had chose these two but decided to pick them up a week later. The holiday season is a busy time for me, and I was going to be out of town the following weekend. Lucy was kind enough to be flexible. I sent her a deposit and bought all the recommended items for them. So it was nice that everything arrived by the time I picked them up. In the interim, I longed to have them, and I made arrangements with Lucy to visit them on my lunch hour a couple times during the week before official adoption day. These visits also sealed the deal as far as picking the right cats. When the day came to take my kitties home, Lucy packed up all their toys, belongings and sent me home with their familiar food and some litter to get them acquainted to their new Litter Robot. She went into thorough explanation of tips, advice and resources for me including pet insurance and leaving herself available if I had any questions. I can't think of a better place to adopt a cat nor a better person to help you find your new kitty! Lucy and company do an amazing job here, and all these cats and kittens are blessed to be in their care. I highly recommend visiting Whis-Purr Rescue if you're looking for a cat or cats!

Really frustrating that I drove down here specifically to a cat shelter and this is the sign I see. Also no one answers the phone when you call. Also I had an older lady that works here lock the door on me when I tried to ask her a question. Definitely don't think I'll be coming back here to adopt....

Add Whis-purr to your list if you're looking to adopt a feline family member! Well recommended I made several visits here, and though I ended up adopting from a different shelter, the Whis-Purr team were great and all the cats well cared for. And I discovered these awesome spring toys here that my kittens can't live without!

We tried adopting a kitten and when we came in they told us we had to make an appointment even though we had called 3 hours earlier and they never replied but we thought maybe they were busy so after they told us to make an appointment we called again but it just sends you to a voicemail that tells you to leave a message which is what we did and they still never responded. Not only that but when we came in they’re was a lady just sitting on her phone not doing anything or helping at all.

We adopted two sweet boys from Whis-purr Rescue and we couldn't be happier. Loki and Oliver are just the two sweetest cats you'll ever meet. The owner, Lucy went out of her way to make our experience great. We're loving our new additions to our family so much, we wanted to thank Whis-purr for everything they did to make it a wonderful experience. All the help and advice, the toys (which they love), and helping us have such an amazing experience throughout the whole adoption process.

I cannot recommend this organization enough. If you're looking to make a difference and adopt your forever furry feline, go here. NOW! Pause your Netflix show, grab your car keys, and drive down to their location. I've had the good fortune to work with Lucy when I adopted my first pair of brother/twin cats many years ago. From the initial hiccups to the hospital visits to the tragic death of my little Simon, Lucy has been a rock, resource, and friend in the best and worst of times. She's incredibly patient and always available to answer my stupid cat questions. She goes far above and beyond what anyone in their right mind would put up with, which simply speaks to the deep passion and love she has for cats and their well-being.

I had been on the search for adopting an all black male kitten for about two months. It had always been a daydream to have a kitten named after Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch. After many kitten dates at the local shelter i decided to look elsewhere and found Whis-Purr! I told Lucy about my ideal kitty and i have no clue how she suckered be into adopting these two cutie pies! Lol. Lucy asked me to just meet these two bonded tuxedo brothers and i agreed because "I knew" i would not adopt them. As soon as i walked into the kitten pen Salem jumped into my lap and purr around rolling in my lap! Soon after so did his brother Binx. I honestly think they chose me instead of me choosing them! :)) I'm a first time cat mamma and I was not expecting the luxe yet adoption experiences had gotten! I not only walked away with my two boys (got all their shots and are fixed) but Lucy was soooo thoughtful and giving to have given me a weeks worth of their litter, food, treats and toys!! Saved me hundreds of dollars ! As time passed I realized these kitties are sooooo well socialized and sweet! Thanks to Whis-purr staff. My boys greet everyone who comes over! My favorite is how they run to the door when i get home to tell me hello Their personalities are like reincarnated dogs and humans in cat form! Big thank you to Lucy and her team pairing me up with my kitty soulmates xoxo

Checked out the whis-purr site and it had close to no information on it so we decided to come to the location in person. We had also called and no answer so we went to the store to ask some questions. As we were walking in we didn't even get to make it to the counter before this woman rushed us and in such a condescending manner told us that we had to make an appointment to be there. Didn't give us a chance to speak or anything. Was super judgmental right off the bat. Giving us dirty looks up and down with a rude tone. She didn't give an opportunity to ask questions or anything. I was interested in adopting but this woman made a quick visit so hostile and unpleasant.

Wonderful cat shelter where we recently found our two wonderful kitties. The kittens were carefully paired to make sure they were compatible companions for each other (they aren't siblings). Took a little more time, but we are glad we waited. They are indeed a perfect pair! We were also asked to wait until we were sure that one if the kittens didn't go home with diarrhea. Glad we waited till that was resolved too! If you are looking for some new feline friends this is a great place to come to find them. Lucy works hard to make the perfect matches (between cats and with people) and knows every single cat and kitten there. They are so well-cared for at Whis-purr. They are well-socialized with volunteers and with other cats, grouped in clean living environments for stimulating play, exercise and rest. But the best thing for these felines is to go home to a caring, loving forever family. More if these are always needed for the steady stream of kittens and cats that are rescued. Lucy will equip you with everything you might need - the right food, toys, advice and support - to get you off to a successful start. You must make an appointment to visit the cats, or come to an open house (every first Saturday of the month)! Whis-Purr is located in the storefront of the Peninsula Feed Store

Was I racially profiled? Is the owner anti-Asian? So I see the hours of operations here as 9-6 and I came by on a weekday last week roughly around 4:00pm. I walked in with other people but this woman singled me out and just told me that the rescue is closed and repeated it. It seems I was the only one being asked to leave. WTF? So yeah, I'm a longtime cat resuer - volunteered at the SF SPCA, Homeless Cat Network and TNR on my own and lifetime resident of San Mateo. Who is this woman who approached only me and kicked me out?

I found a lost cat on the street that I didn't know was lost at the time (didn't have a collar and not near a home) . I assumed he was a stray and I was really worried and desperate to find out what I could with him and where he would go. I was very worried about his health and everything . RaeAnn messaged me and was ABSOLUTELY HELPFUL! She really cared and was helping to guide me what to do with the kitty and genuinely was concerned over the welfare of the kitty. She called and gave information from other animal rescues near me and explained the process and was just constantly asking about how the kitty was doing and everything! RaeAnn was amazingly helpful as caring , I recommend her ! Also, I eventually FOUND the owner and the family was very very happy !

I have never seen a rescue who cares more about the cats in their care. I delivered kittens here from the shelter that they were rescuing from euthanasia over five years ago. I have been a volunteer ever since. I can assure you that this is no scam, as some very misinformed reviewers have said. They do keep bonded siblings together because that is best for the cats/kittens. I have seen many, many kittens and cats adopted to wonderful homes. Lucy keeps in touch with the families to assist in the successful transition. She also sends all kinds of goodies including beds and trees so the cats have familiar things to help them be comfortable. If looking for kittens or cats i highly recommend a visit to Whis-Purr to see for yourself.

The cats and kittens at Whis-Purr are much loved and well cared for, it is obvious. Lucy is so helpful in finding the best cats for you and she knows all about every cat. The set up with the rooms and tunnels makes the most of the space so the cats have lots of room to roam but stay safe. You can go in and spend time with the cats. Highly recommended.
