Tucked in a quiet corner of the 99 Ranch complex is Candy Box. The store is stuffed full of adorable anime and Studio Ghibli paraphernalia. You no longer have to go to Japan Town to get your fix. The owner of lovely and her offerings are unique. I can't wait to go back!

Been a patron of this store for close to a decade. Great items, ranging from clothing to toys to candy (of course!). I must says, the hours (life other reviews) aren't accurate sadly. Sign in the door always says 2:30, but doesn't always mean 2:30. I recommend coming after 5pm to make sure they're open. She typically stays open till 9/10ish. But yes, I'm here right now, it's 4:15, and it's not open

I literally grew up on the Candy Box! I always try to stop by whenever I get the chance. I don't even eat candy for myself, but I really come by to catch up with the auntie who owns it! These days, her shop has been closed each time I come by. I hope she's doing okay!

Geeeeeez, get your store hours down - VERY inconsistent. Hours shown on door, I've showed up now THREE times driving from Marin - they aren't open. Their listing on their door says 1:30pm on Saturdays, Google listing shows 2pm, and now Yelp listing shows 2:30pm. We came specifically based on hours posted at the door - no one is here. Based on other reviews, looks like it will be a bad call to wait it out and waste more time. Starting to believe Amazon deserves business than this shop. Don't try calling either - they won't answer.

Classic Asian trinket/snack import shop! Located conveniently in the 99 ranch plaza bordering El Cerrito/Richmond, for your post-grocery shopping impulse needs. For COVID safety purposes, staff/patrons must wear masks and hand sanitizer is provided. With the shop so small and packed to the brim with goodies, it can be hard to maneuver even with only a handful of customers inside. Great variety, a bit pricier than other places. I picked up some Japanese Kit Kats to send to my friends in the East Coast, 8 bags totaling almost $70! And I hadn't noticed it at the time, but some of the same flavors were priced differently-- Meaning, one bag of Milk Tea Kit Kats cost $5.99 while another identical bag had a $7.99 tag on it, and the store owner (didn't get her name) didn't correct it at all! I felt a little overcharged... I have to give it to her though, she's an exceptionally effective salesperson. Offering freebies at the register, making convo and jokes all the while. I am EASILY marketed to but will be more careful about price tags when I'm back :')

I have loved this place since I was a young kid! I stop by every now and then, and I'm always greeted with a smile and a kind conversation by the one behind the counter. Always such a treat to come here, so so much yummy candy! <3

We made a special trip but they were not open by 2:45 even though their signage states open by 2:30. Either show up when you say you will or choose a new opening time. Thanks

We love Candy Box! This review is long overdue. As our kids grew up over the years, we came here and bought candy, snacks, toys, posters and even trading cards. They have some Japanese candy you can't find elsewhere. The owner lady is super nice! As we moved out of Bay Area, I want to pass one of our sweet memories to you!

Tiny shop located in Pacific East Mall that sells candy, anime figures, stuffed animals, trading cards, and so much more. All the walls are pretty much covered. If you pay by cash, they'll give you a discount. The family in front of us took a long time (but we were in no rush), however, it was cute to hear the owner interacting with one of her long time customers. The family moved to Sacramento but had to stop by to pick up some goodies. The owner mentioned she had customers visited today who had moved to TX, SD, and Sacramento but had to visit as well. Gotta say something right? I came because someone asked me to pick up some Kitkats that you typically don't find in most Asian grocers. Today the selection was yuzu salt, strawberry milk, green tea tiramisu, purple yam, lychee, latte, sparkling wine, red bean, basque cheesecake, strawberry cheesecake, ume, passion fruit, chestnut, apple pie, strawberry, ceremonial matcha, and mix of milk & dark chocolate. Prices of the Kitkats ranged from $5-9. Way better than some places I've seen. Picked up most of them and the owner was nice enough to give me some extra goodies after she found out nothing was for me. Super sweet lady. Even bagged separately. Why it's best to support small business. :)

I absolutely love this place! AND YES THEY ARE OPEN DURING COVID!! She will give you gloves to put on and your own spoon for the bins. Every time I come to Ranch 99 to get dinner, boba, or just anything then I always make sure to stop by here to get some sweets for the road home. The owner is the sweetest lady and she always has the best candy and toys from green tea or mochi kit kats or a variety of hi chews (the authentic hi chews and not the ones you buy at Lucky's). You can tell all the candy in the bins are fresh and delicious! My absolute favorite that I ALWAYS have to get are the chocolate covered gummy bears, the gummy bears with the gummy filling (trust me you have to try it), and the sour belts.

I've bought posters, plushies, and Milk Tea Boba flavored candy from here. Just recently bought face masks here for a reasonable price due to many stores selling out. The lady that works here is super nice.

Great place to find all of the weird Japan only flavors of popular snacks. Like Pink Lemonade Snickers and what have you. Normally I buy this stuff online but after shipping from Japan that gets pretty expensive. Not having to pay Airmail from Japan by just buying in this store scored me a nice big grocery sack of sweets. I think I will come back here regularly.
