I am building a wood patio cover for myself and wanted to use a wood preservative on the doug fir material, so i purchased the Copper-Green wood preservative manufactured by this company and sold by Home Depot. Following the directions on the container, I allowed a week for this product to dry and then applied the recommended primer, also waiting a week for drying time. After applying the finish coat on some of the timbers, there was serious bleeding through of the preservative. I contacted this company to find out what might be causing this to happen, and was told I was using the wrong primer. I used a Zinnser oil base primer at $30.00+ a gallon, so I asked why the directions on the bottle were not more specific as to what primer should be used, the man said it was on the bottle and he didn't want to argue with me about it?? So, I purchased Zinnser BIN shellac primer and the same thing happened with bleeding through. I ended up using Penashield Wood Preservative to do the remainder of the wood, at some point in time I will have to put a FOURTH COAT of paint on the beams and joists in hopes it will cover up the green splotches still visible. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT FOR PATIO COVERS, DECKS, OR OTHER APPLICATIONS WHERE A PAINT OR STAIN WOULD BE USED. FOUR MONTHS LATER AND IT IS STILL NOT DRY!!!
