I was very excited to visit Ulta in Riverbank on Tuesday August 12th, as I usually buy my makeup at Macy’s but know Ulta carries some of the same high-end brands. Unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant.
From the moment I walked in, I could not find anyone available to help me. When I finally did approach one employee with a question, she seemed rushed, gave me a dismissive look, and answered as if I didn’t know what I was talking about. This interaction made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable.
I ended up not purchasing any makeup because there was no assistance available, and I didn’t feel comfortable testing products without proper disinfectant or application tools. Hoping for a better experience, I went to browse hair styling tools, but the shelves were nearly empty. I wasn’t sure if items were kept in the back, but again, I could not find any staff willing to help. Several employees appeared to be chatting with each other instead of assisting customers.
Even when I asked the salon area for help, I was told to “find one of the workers,” which was already the problem. The overall attitude in the store felt unprofessional and unwelcoming. I take pride in investing in quality beauty products, but this visit made it clear that Ulta Riverbank is not the place for me.
I ultimately left without making a purchase and returned to Macy’s, where I received excellent service as always. Based on this experience, I will not be returning to the Ulta in Riverbank.

I went into this ulta because I was looking for a facial mist since it said it was in stock online.. Went to where that brand was displayed and it wasn’t on the shelf. Tried to look for someone to help, but no one bothered to help. Then an associate came out and asked someone else if they needed help, but didn’t bother asking me if I needed help.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but my experience at this Ulta location was genuinely disappointing enough to warrant one. I came in looking to browse perfumes and was immediately reminded that most of them are locked up, which is totally fine. But what really ruined the experience was the complete lack of customer service.
There was a male employee in the fragrance area, seemingly giving a long-winded training session to a coworker. I didn’t want to interrupt, so I found another staff member who (ironically) directed me right back to the same guy. I stood there for a while, literally right in front of them, clearly waiting to be helped, and was just completely ignored. Eventually I had to speak up because it was getting awkward.
When he finally faced me to help me, it was with the kind of attitude that made me feel like I was massively inconveniencing him. He handed me what I asked for, turned away immediately, and then muttered “well now I lost my train of thought” — as if helping a customer was some unbearable disruption to his incredibly important conversation.
Sorry, but that’s your job. Being made to feel like an annoying interruption just for asking for assistance is not it. I left feeling frustrated and pretty embarrassed. Needless to say, I won’t be coming back to this location anytime soon.

Very disappointed in the customer service of the gals working the registers. For some reason they had my birthday gift has April 4th when in fact my birthday is July 2nd. They were very rude and would not help me at all.

My sister and I visited Ulta today shopping for her wedding gift! Caroline & Genesis went above and beyond for us in the fragrance section and helped us find the perfect perfume for her special day. Caroline really stood out with her sweet energy, I remembered her from the last visit she assisted me with my birthday things and signing up for Ulta credit card (best decision ever lol) 😊 They both are wonderful workers. Give them a raise and promotion!! Thank you Ulta team.

The worst customer experience I have ever encountered. I went in on a Wednesday to try to find Nyx eyeliner and I haven’t been into this location very often so I didn’t know where it was and no one would help me find it. The associates won’t leave their assigned areas to help you find anything even if they are standing on the floor doing nothing. Today my husband tried to go in to pick up lipgloss for me and the associates wouldn’t help my husband find anything. They will point you in a corner across the store and that’s it. He left without purchasing anything. I’ll only shop online from now on. Do better !

I don’t know why but anytime of year this store is guaranteed to have a line and be full of screaming children. Today was the worst because there was only one line open with four people standing behind the counter and the customer that was being helped was returning what appeared to be half the stores inventory back to them. The staff waited until the line reached halfway back to the end of the store before opening up a second counter.
