Very helpful to have an old transmission shop around that the guys who answer the phones actually know about transmissions & tfc's and can help you with what you're looking for. I appreciate the old school shops that are still around like this one!

Avoid this shop at all costs.I gave my NV4500 manual trans to a shop that sent it here (since they don't rebuild manuals) and both times it was "rebuilt", it's been plagued with problems! Yes, I said both times. I had to send it back right away after the first rebuild! The NV4500 came out of my 2003 Dodge pickup and was never rebuilt prior. Trans had almost 300k and was still driveable but, hard to get into 3rd.I didn't receive "my" transmission back but, one that was already "rebuilt". Right away there were issues: Reverse switch was old/rusted/didn't work, plus it was cross threaded in and generic bolts were holding the back cover on. After installation & driving, the gears were extremely tight. First gear "crunched" every time going in. After putting a few thousand miles on it, reverse went out as well as 5th. Shop used an incorrect retaining ring on the reverse/5th assembly. Sent it back. After receiving the second time, nothing has changed and in fact, it's now worse. First gear is now even harder to get into/still crunches very loudly (even when the truck is off), some days 3rd takes a few tries, reverse is almost never there and takes 5 or 6 attempts of going through all the gears before crunching in and it pukes it's fluid out and drips everywhere I park. I have to check it often and top it back off.For reference, I used Amsoil both times and never had a problem running it in the factory trans or any of my other manual vehicles. I even switched this time around to what the dealership recommends, which is simply ATF+4. No change. Warranty has been up so, just driving it till it gives it out, which shouldn't be long. Really wish I would get a call back and my money back for this transmission. It's an absolute joke of a rebuild.

Called ahead to get a quote for a re-seal of a transmission and transfer case. Brian quoted the job at $350, stating they wouldn't start on it for two weeks. When I arrived to leave my critical part, I was told to dump it on ground, close to the street. I was concerned it could be stolen, plus they offered no work order or receipt as proof of my dropping it off. Brian also tried doubling his price, claiming I hadn't told him of the transmission and transfer case. I don't like games or risks, so I went to J&C transmission in Redlands, no games, very professional like and it was finished beautifully in one day. Roman at J&C has done great work for me several times in the past, so it's the place for me from now on.

A year ago I had to replace the transmission on my older Honda Civic. It's a car I don't want to get rid of for a host of reasons and parts are sometimes expensive for such a vehicle. I looked at a lot of transmissions places and sellers. I was getting prices as much as $2000.00 for a rebuild ONLY, and for companies that only warranty for a year that was insane!!! So, I saw an ad for West Coast Standards Inc. and couldn't believe the price (I won't tell you what it was but it was more than half of what most wanted) so I did some checking and their reviews were quite good. I was surprised that the price was so low, I called the shop and talked to one of the manager/mechanics. I was grateful to learn that before any transmission goes out they are carefully checked by the mechanic and they offer an excellent warranty for a rebuilt tranny. It's been a year now and I've had ZERO problems with the transmission. I want this car to last and I needed excellent mechanics and quality parts to make that happen; the mechanics and crew did a great job. I'm picky, I used BG MGC in the tranny since day one, and Honda synthetic oil. I'm careful and particular about my cars and do most of the work on them. I can tell you that if you need a transmission try West Coast Standards Inc. before anyone else, and one GREAT benefit is that they ship!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

I work for a transmission shop in another state, and sometimes have to call this place to get pricing on transmissions. I don't have the employees name but he is very rude whenever he answers the phone. It always sounds like he hates his job or he just hates answering my phone calls. Word of advice... Be kind and courteous on the phone and professional and watch your tone of voice.
