I worked at VIDA for over a year. I can ensure you that their care for animals goes above and beyond! Not only does VIDA rescue animals from the city, they rescue animals from TJ, Mexico, and Guatemala. They care for their animals tremendously— if any of their animals show signs of sickness, they’re quick to medicate, treat, and take them to the vet. Anything they’re aware of is disclosed within an adoption. VIDA Staff also spends time getting to know each animal and builds a personal bond with all the animals at the shelter. They are truly a great place, they’re giving our fur friends a second chance at life!

Do NOT trust these people. I adopted a cat listed as a 1 yr old. The cat was a 10 - 12 yr old after an ACTUAL vet visit. They also found a massive infection which turned to pneumonia. Due to quality of life issues we had to let him go after 10 month of vet visits and TONS of money. We miss him.

The volunteers were wonderful in helping me adopt a 1 year old Cocker mixed breed. I inquired on a Wednesday, received a response that night, applied online and got an invitation to visit Friday. We went to meet our pet "Jasper" the next day. After our 30 minute appointment, we were able to adopt Jasper. All the staff were helpful in answering my questions and concerns. Dominque was so helpful in coordinating our visit and Laura helpful in follow up appointments. Volunteer Karen followed up to make sure our concerns were met. As a dog trainer myself with Noah's Ark Dog Training, I highly recommend this rescue.

Horrible, and that’s being generous. I fostered for this rescue and I would absolutely never recommend this organization. The owner, Laura, has no place dealing with innocent animals. She is not forthcoming about the health of the animals she is adopting out. She will outright lie in an effort to pass these pets off so she can get new ones and continue to make money off of them. It’s only about profit for her. Please, please, please don’t support Vida rescue.

Very rude when you call don’t even let you explain the situation. Automatically ask you for a picture which I get they are busy but at the end of the day it’s not just a dog it’s part of a family. Seems very quick and annoyed that we kept calling.

A year ago my 80 year old grandmother wanted to adopt a cat. I contacted VIDA to inquire about cats, and I was invited into the cat sanctuary where I met so many loving and cats in need of a home. I picked a few that I thought would be a good fit for my grandma. I let them know she was in a wheel chair and wanted to meet cats before adopting, and the area was handicap accessible which was so refreshing and nice. Fast forward to a year later and we have the most loving and loyal cat, Bella. VIDA took the time to make sure we got the perfect cat for our family. They were friendly, informative & quick to get us through the adoption process. Will always recommend to my friends and family

Vida works diligently to screen public to adopt their pets out to families that will enjoy the animals and care for them. I've fostered kittens for them and adopted one myself. Please go here to adopt your future pet. What you get in return is of great value for their fees plus you help the rescue out to continue rescuing more animals.

I was interested in one of their dogs and filled out an application. I heard from them fairly quickly and was told the dog I was interested in may be adopted by its foster parents. They said they’d know by end of day and asked if I was interested in this other dog instead. They told me later the foster had decided to adopt the dog and it was no longer available. I was fine with that as I’m sure there’s another dog right for me and I’m glad that dog has a loving home. However, that was a week ago and that dog is still listed as available. That seems a little suspicious to me. A day or 2 I would understand but a week is a long time to keep a dog who is unavailable up as still adoptable. This dog had traits and behaviors that would be viewed as highly desirable. I feel they are leaving it up as a way to get people interested in the rescue and reach out. Then they tell you that dog isn’t available but this other dog is. It feels really shady to me and underhanded. There are plenty of other places who are more honest about what dogs are available so I’ll be looking elsewhere.

PLEASE READ !!!!!!! If you love animals DO NOT adopt or rehouse with this rescue shelter. They are SHADY, they do not PROTECT animals (like they claim), and will take advantage when you're at your weakest (or try to steal/kill your dog). I'm not going to give much background on what happened (its way too much to type, *I will if needed*) but LAURA knows exactly what she did and why I am writing this. LAURA SHOULD BE FIRED AND NEVER ALLOWED TO WORK WITH ANIMALS AGAIN. SHE IS VERY SNEAKY, A LIAR, AND SHE DOES NOT HAVE THE ANIMALS BEST INTEREST. I have already contacted the humane society to inform them of all her wrong doings and the HORRIBLE experience I had with LAURA this past weekend after she tried to put my healthy dog down. LAURA is in the business of killing OR stealing animals, not helping them and she needs to be stopped. This is not the first time she has tried to put a dog down (3rd dog within the last month actually) and I am sure it wont be her last. I have yet to figure out why she is so quick to kill animals (wondering if she gets some type of $$$ for it) but something fishy is going on at VIDA RESCUE and I plan to get to the bottom of it! BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY ANIMALS ARE NOT SAFE HERE...((giving one star because I have too!)

A great group of people doing amazing work on behalf of countless animals that come to their shelter. The adoption process is detailed but never overly complicated. Our advocate, Dominique, was extremely helpful and communicated with us every step of the way. Thanks to these great folks, we added another member to our family, and we couldn't be happier.

I had the best experience with VIDA. They were so nice and I adopted my little girl Frankie (formally Nina) from there!! She fits right in with our family.

I hate leaving a bad review about this place because I truly love what they stand for but with that said we adopted a beautiful bloodhound from them. She was 30-40 lbs under weight, had sores (which most had healed by the time we adopted her and was put through misery with her previous owners. The adoption was so quick and I love that they vetted us. What gives them the one star is the dog had cancer. She had a very large mass that we were not aware of and it ruptured 6 days into our fur baby living with us. After a very bloody run to the emergency hospital and two more vet visits, a CT scan and an ultrasound sound later (all within 15 hours of the rupture) we were told there was no saving Mabel. I sent a message to the intake lady hoping something would be said. Not a peep. Now I'm well aware this rescue does not guarantee health but a simple I'm so sorry for your loss or even a when the time is right come back for a discount. Nothing. We're heart broken and now out $3,500. I wouldn't change a thing because Mabel was so special and so wonderful (even only after 6 days of having her) but it would have been nice to get an apology or something. The staff and everyone there was so wonderful I just expected more.It was also noted by all three vets (all different clinics) that the tumor would have been noticeable when the vet of the rescue spayed her due to the size of the mass. Which was even worse knowing. Again wouldn't change adopting Mabel but we would have put that money towards healing her immediately if we knew. There are people/families out there who are willing to care for a sick dog and put the money into it. Her appointment with our vet was the day before she died which wasn't enough time. If I can give any advice I would say have an ultrasound & physical done immediately once you adopt. It could have saved our baby and our heartbreak. We sadly feel so scarred by this event I'm not sure if I can trust even a breeder at this point. Our kids were devastated and my husband and I didn't stop crying for days. Now all we have is our new fur babies ashes which sit on our mantle. This was our first dog ever and she was one of the best things that happened to us but the heartbreak is horrible.

Just make sure the animal is healthy. I paid $225 for a kitten and about two weeks in my entire family had ringworm!! Sooo gross. My poor son was covered. So was I. It's been months and we still have it popping up here and there because spores can live in the carpet for up to a year. We took the cat back with no refund of course and they said well ringworm goes away. No apology. Goes away? It took months to go away! The place is pretty dirty when you get there so I should have known better.

I was a volunteer for this rescue for a decade. I did it for the animals. Do NOT adopt from Laura. She is not right in the head. These animals do not receive proper medical care prior to adoption. They live in kennels that are freezing cold or sweltering hot. I had to spend my own money as a foster mom. I can’t even explain the $ put out which means nothing aside the emotional anguish I experienced. I had two dogs die in my care as babies. All my own $. Laura euthanizes animals with issues if you return them.Stay away. Stay far away from Laura S. She’s a narcissist, disconnected from reality. Very few people skills. This is coming from my heart. I live for these animals.

The owner was kind enough to give our family a trial period. We have young kids so wanted to make sure the dog we took home would be a good match. Even though we knew she was perfect an hour after her being home! We love our new girl❤️ Thank you!!
