This was the absolute pinnacle of our trip to Napa Valley. I'm glad we went here last, because if we had started here... everything else would have been a disappointment. If you visit one winery on your trip, make AXR the one.First, our wine host Melissa was a complete joy to spend 2 hours with. By the end of our tasting, she was like family. Her knowledge of wine is amazing and we learned a lot. She also gave us a quick tour of the property on foot despite the rain. We may have even tasted a wine or two not on the list.Second, the wines are quite honestly the best I've had top to bottom. The grenache was a pleasant surprise. Their 2021 line-up tastes like something that's been aging for 6 years vs 3. There is no doubt these wines will age spectacularly and if you are a collector, they source from single vineyards that are limited and hard to get your hands on.Third, winemaker Jean Hoefliger, is in very high demand in the valley and working with some great wineries. His creativity and Bordeaux background are nothing like I've experienced. I can't say enough about the structure, depth and fruit that he ties together... it's simply "joy" in a bottle.Needless to say, we joined the club and are looking forward to our next visit.

Wines and tasting experience were superb. Extra points for our host John - it felt like we were talking to an old friend, and certainly did not feel like we were there for over an hour and a half. The knowledge he imparted as a former member of the wine-making-team also provided a unique perspective. It almost made amends for him being a Celtics fan (almost). Can’t wait for a return visit, and catch up with John over glasses of vino.

On our last day at Napa on 12/29/2023 we visted this great winery. We had the pleasure and the honor of being hosted by both Don and Mark 2 of the Fab 4. They were both very attentive, generous, and made our visit very pleasant. Although they normally don't host visitors (according to them) we felt they did a magnificent job with respect to the tour and the tasting itself. We enjoyed several of their wines and took some home to enjoy once again. Highly recommended.

This is our second time to AXR winery. We have been up to Napa about 4-5 times. We have been to all the trendy and large wineries. We wanted something different. What a treat every time. The people that work here are an absolute pleasure to be around. Tons of fun and laughs. The wine is absolutely the secret of Napa. It’s very very good. Super delicious and smooth. It’s almost like I’m doing myself a disservice by sharing how great they are. We plan to keep coming back again and againYou can either get John or Aida. They are both great. The winemaker/owner has an absolute passion for what he is doing here and he is making wine in small batches.Highly recommend if you love a beautiful place with great wine.

If you are wine tasting in Napa you have to give Axr a try. We were at the Harvest Inn bar and had a glass of Axr Sauvignon Blanc. We loved it and went over to the winery just afew minutes away. We met with one of the owners Mark Schratz and tried quite a few wines. Mark is an amazing host, the grounds are amazing (we had a bench table under the trees) and it was the best time we had while up in Napa. We were there for 3 hours! Of course there are quite a few very nice winerys in Napa but add this one to your list. You just might agree with me that this is one of the best! We can't wait to go back! John Thompson

Our group had a fabulous time at AXR. Very cool location. A bit different that what you are use to in napa. Our host Richie was a blast. Very engaging and informative. The wine was top notch. We could have spent another couple hours there. The wine maker even stopped by and said hello, which was a huge thrill for one of our group who has been a big fan of his for years. Overall, if you have an option, skip one of the bigger wineries and check this place out.

Wonderful wines with beautiful settings ... with amazing service knowledge sommelier who truly love their craft.Jean Hoefliger is a Winemaker is one I followed to AXR because of his absolute dedication and passion to making amazing wines. Love the exciting new direction he has brought with AXR.Even when Napa was ravaged by the fires, AXR provides us out of skipping a year by bringing in wines from other regions (petaluma) even using Jean's origins from Switzerland. The Doral and Pinot Noir were great!Loved the Fab4 , Rose, and their elite flagship AXR1.Another unique is a yummy pairing with kettle chips and finely Shaved cheese , so good!

We celebrated a friend's big birthday at AXR. We were greeted by John steps from where we parked with rose in hand. He was a great host that listened, engaged in banter and had us try some amazing single vineyard options. What a special experience and a great way to celebrate a birthday.

This was our favorite stop in wine country. The wine is delicious! The grounds are beautiful. We had a tasting with Richie, and he absolutely elevated our entire experience. He was almost like an additional member of our group, and we all welcomed how he guided our tasting. This will definitely be a place to revisit!

Such an amazing experience. Great conversation and great people. Instantly felt like we were with old friend and can enjoy the wine and talk about old times. Don, one of the owners, was truly a pleasure. Thank y’all for the memories.

What a cute winery! Be sure to bring picnic food and make use of their picnic grounds behind the winery. They were very kind, accommodating and understanding about us arriving 15 minutes late. We still got through the whole tour and tasting and our wine educator even had time to offer us a pour of one of the reserve single vineyard wines outside of the standard tasting. I really enjoyed the Sauvignon blanc and one of the cabs so bought a few bottles of those (didn't love the Pinot though my friend did so to each their own). It was a very short tour just to see the redwood trees they had outside, during which we sipped on some delicious rose, which I also purchased, and then we went straight inside to a large round table just the 4 of us for the tasting. We were given water bottles and chips with cheese, which were delightful. I also found the wines much more reasonably priced than the larger, more commercialized places. Our host was very energetic, funny and talkative - he really made the experience.Over all, this was a super fun stop - really enjoyed the wines and appreciated the reasonable prices!
