Oliver Caldwell and Susan Snyder have the best eyes for art! Whenever I have a bit of time on my hands in St. Helena, I always gaze at the wonderful pieces in their gallery. The extremely high ceilings and great openness of the space makes the display of the artwork a delight to see. Always fresh and new - it fills my senses until my next visit!

This is a stunning gallery with a wide variety of artists. You'll find it right in the middle downtown St. Helena.

Caldwell Snyder is all about location, location, location. It's a bright, open, airy space- San Francisco sophistication without having to go all the way to San Francisco. (However, they do have a Sutter Street location in SF) It's a pricey spot, so don't expect to find something for friends or family. The current exhibition is small, mostly abstract. The most striking piece is directly beneath the skylights- wooden totem sculptures by the Roscubas brothers (Vicente&Fernando) of Bilbao, Spain that look like an optical illusion of sorts. From the street, it looks like a projection, a hologram. It's amazing to walk among their totemic pieces. In the back, a couple was getting a personal art consultation with a curator who resembles Taylor Swift. The curator at the front desk/table was so engrossed with work on her desktop she didn't bother to say hi. She did, however, become personable&talk about the pieces. Be careful among the pieces, especially when you walk among the Roscubas Brothers' wooden totems, they're delicate. Taylor Swift- "Delicate"-

This gallery is right on the main street of St. Helena, so if contemporary art interests you, I would highly recommend a stop here. It's located in the historic Star Building and is an airy, open, spacious gallery, which features a different artist each month and has rotating exhibits. We saw Greg Miller's works, which are basically 'pop' art, but with a California twist, as he uses surfboard resin to finish his paintings. The resin gives them each a distinctive appearance and we very much enjoyed browsing his work. This gallery features contemporary American and European works in different media, with a smattering of Latin American artists. The price tags were somewhat lofty, but we were pleased to be able to visit the art, without having to purchase it. In short, if you are in St. Helena for an afternoon of enjoyment, then you could hardly do better than to spend some of your time at this gallery!

This gallery has a fairly large collection of smaller works. Mainly local artists. If you are in St Helena it is well worth the time to visit.

Caldwell Snyder Gallery specializes in Contemporary American and European paintings, drawings, sculpture and limited-edition prints including post-war and emerging artists. The gallery is known for introducing European and Latin American artists who are well known in their home countries but rarely shown in the U.S. The Gallery is located in the midst of beautiful downtown St. Helena in the historic Star Building. It is a large, open and airy gallery full of rotating art exhibits. Artist Matt Rogers was on exhibition when I visited the gallery. He has lived in California his whole life and that is reflected in his art. I love his landscapes - a colorful fantastical confection of cotton candy trees! His art represents the California dream of sunsets and palm trees but also incorporates our reality of earthquakes, fire and mudslides. He captures the reality of California - beach culture rubs shoulders with counter-culture; beauty versus darkness. The Gallery was hosting an after-party for the Napa Valley Film Fest screening of "Woman in Gold" It was an excellent party with sparkling wine, cocktails and continuous food offerings. One side note - as is so common in Napa Valley, there were no vegan options available. However, when I mentioned my vegan diet to the server, he mentioned it to the caterer who whipped up a delicious batch of mushroom bites. They were not only excellent but I was very happy and encouraged that the Chef was open to making something for me on the fly! Whether you are in the market for unique, under appreciated art or just love to browse, it is worth a visit!

This gallery is swanky, beautiful, and usually has some of the most stunning pieces I've ever seen- let alone in the area! It specializes in modern art, mostly paintings and sculpture. Caldwell Snyder is hard to miss... it's a beautiful renovated space in the middle of busy Main Street. Pieces here tend to be grand in size and price tag, but if you've got a Wine Country-sized budget or just like art, you'll appreciate the gallery. They also seem to host special events from time to time, so it may be a possible venue if you're seeking a spacious yet intimate setting.
