I have found good clothes there in the past. It's nothing like Goodwill, or the Salvation Army, It's high end stuff.

All proceeds from community donated goods to the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop™ support the American Cancer Society™. Donations are tax-deductible. When you donate and/or purchase from the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop™, you are supporting the fight against cancer. I love what they are doing in terms of supporting the fight against cancer. It is a cause especially dear to me because my mom lost her battle with cancer, and we had very little means to pay for her treatment. They are also supposed to be supporting the community in need, by offering goods that should be at a discount when compared to regular retail stores. However, after my visit to the Salinas American Cancer Society Discovery Shop™, on May 6, 2023, I would rather donate to the American Cancer Society™ directly, rather than return to this establishment! The staff at the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop™ are volunteers. You will notice that the staff here are either very young (high school age students), or very old (way past retirement age and in their late 70's or 80's). After several visits, I am noticing that both age groups are not friendly at all. You don't get greeted. They don't smile or look you in the eye, and if you ask them a question or are at the checkout counter, they act as if you are disturbing them! Maybe it's because they aren't getting paid to be there? I don't know, but their attitudes and pricing are driving away business. Their attitudes can be likened to someone being forced to work there against their will! They need to be trained on customer service and a better pricing structure. ***Examples of the bad service: At the checkout counter, I was going to grab a penny from the "Give A Penny, Take A Penny" jar at the checkout counter and the young lady rudely told me, "You can't take those." That little girl with the long, straight dark hair needs to be educated on what the jar is there for! It is NOT a tip jar and if it were, it would be empty based on that attitude! The older lady working the register alongside her is also rude. You don't get asked if you need help, you must flag someone down to help you look at an item in the case. When you do finally get someone to "help" you, you will notice the cost of the item is ridiculous for costume jewelry! Also, you get unwelcomed, rude comments regarding how something, like a fashion accessory in this case, would look on you. Such rude comments really should be kept to yourself! The claim that their prices are high because they offer high quality, gently used clothing, shoes, handbags, jewelry, furniture, household items, and new merchandise, including collectible and vintage items. I have been buying and collecting vintage and antiques for most of my adult life, and I haven't found a single affordable, or decent piece here. I have seen worn clothing and high price tags on junk! They are delusional thinking that they are a higher-class antique boutique! This is not an upscale store by any means. Especially considering this is in Salinas. A not very affluent community. The best thing about this shop is it's clean. Your nostrils don't get assaulted with as much of that stale air or old moth ball scent that you generally get a whiff of as soon as you enter a used clothing store containing unlaundered clothing and grandma's and grandpa's old junk. When I was last there, a high school age student was dusting the shelves. The items they sell are usually clean. Although, I did overhear a patron complain about a stain on a pair of pants. I heard she got a discount, albeit a small discount, but at least they did that for her. The location is good with plenty of parking. Despite it all, I cannot get passed the issue with their awful service and how they price items way beyond their worth. Since it is going to a good cause, I could overlook the pricing discrepancies if the customer service was good. But their unwelcoming attitude and rudeness is unforgiveable and is something they

The Discovery Shop at 1534 N Main St is the best thrift store in Salinas. My mom passed away from Cancer and this shop is part of the Cancer Society! Secondly, they have great quality of clothes for the entire family, furniture, and toys. They have Holiday sales where you can stock up on all kinds of decorations for your home. You can have quality products a great price, so come see their store. It is next to Safeway on N Main St.

Everything is reasonably priced. I worked here for a while, and I can say for a fact that all items are checked well before being priced, and put out front. Electronics are tested, and clothes are checked for stains/ holes and steamed.

I'm assuming this is the Discovery thrift store which supports the ACS. It's small but has high quality clothing, a lot brand new, at about a 10th the price of a department store. Also carries books and generally better quality nick knacks at good prices. Highly recommended.
