• “Unsafe for Women and Children – Misrepresented and Dangerous”
The photos of this hotel are completely misleading and do not reflect the actual property. I arrived late at night with my son, only to find a much smaller building in a run-down, unsafe area. There were people partying in the parking lot and directly outside our door.
While we were loading our car, a strange man approached us despite my repeated warnings to stay back. He came uncomfortably close and ignored my requests, continuing to ask invasive questions. It was nearly midnight. I felt deeply unsafe for myself and my child.
We checked in and checked out within 20 minutes. Unfortunately, the reservation was non-refundable, but I will make sure to share this experience wherever I can.
This was one of the most frightening travel experiences I’ve had. Anything could’ve happened — we could’ve been robbed, harmed, or worse.
It’s incredibly disheartening that safe and affordable lodging for traveling professionals is so difficult to find. This place was neither.

The Quality of this place is slowly but surely going down.....

This place totally misrepresented themselves. They said there was a pool, but there isn’t. There’s no carpet in the rooms, they are also filthy. There’s no lounge. They charge a $100 deposit on top of their overpriced rooms. If I could give this place a zero, I definitely would.

Unsafe! The fire alarms are covered in plastic bags. Also the room is truly filthy. Don’t stay here unless you want to torture yourself.

Horrible dirty pillows ,sheets and room….don’t stay…you deserve better! Trust me!

There was no duvet cover, no drop sheet separating the blanket from my body — just direct contact. It smelled strongly of urine. Take a guess: how long has it been since this blanket was last washed? A year? Or maybe never? I placed the top sheet between myself and the blanket, hoping it had at least been cleaned. But in a place like this, does it even make a difference? Now the stench of urine from the blanket fills the entire room. If you’re ever “lucky” enough to stay at this hotel, I think just hearing its name might give you PTSD for life.

Room was disgusting! Floors, walls TOILET were completely filthy with unknown stains front desk was rude and corporate was useless and just told me to get in contact with the front desk to change rooms that was no better than the first! The whole staff needs to be retrained or removed! I thought Howard Johnson’s held them selves to a higher standard. This was completely unacceptable.

Terrible Experience – Avoid at All Costs
We had a truly awful experience at Howard Johnson in Salinas, California and I strongly advise against staying here, especially if you’re traveling with family.
Before booking, we specifically called ahead to confirm the availability of connecting rooms, an important requirement for our family. We were assured it wouldn’t be an issue. However, when we arrived, we were told no connecting rooms were available, with no apology or attempt to make it right.
The room conditions were unacceptable, dirty, dusty, and had a foul smell. The beds appeared to have bed bugs, as my daughter experienced an immediate allergic reaction and itching right after getting in. That alone should be enough reason to avoid this hotel.
On top of that, they required a $100 cash deposit per room, but refused to provide a proper receipt. Instead, they asked us to take a photo of the cash as “proof”, highly unprofessional and suspicious. The check-in process lacked any proper documentation, which was very concerning.
The parking lot felt unsafe, loud guests drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana just outside, well within hotel premises. It’s clearly not a place suited for families or even travelers seeking a basic, safe night’s rest.
We ended up not staying the night, despite paying in full for two rooms. It was not worth risking our health or safety.
Bottom line: Avoid this hotel at all costs. You’re better off spending a little more to stay at Best Western or any other reputable hotel, where you can expect cleanliness, safety and professionalism.

Warning- DON'T STAY HERE EVEN IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT. I paid $160 incl. taxes for this hotel. It was last minute booking since I had older parents with me however the hotel was extremely DISGUSTING. So filthy- we found a used underwear in the icebox!!!
There was a number of other issues like uncleaned hair on pillows and bathroom fan cover falling down. What more can I say about the level of service and cleanliness. They did change our room at night after asking but even the other room had torn blankets and it was super inconvenient to shift all out stuff. We were so tired after all this that we gave up and decided to somehow sleep at night. I booked via Priceline and all they offered as compensation is 15% off!!! Don't ever stay in this hotel- you have been warned.
