San Mateo 62 Area Gym is a small community gym that focus on heavy lifting with no frills. Hours are great, owners and staff are super friendly. The gym is mostly a lifting gym with some cardio equipment, no classes or pool. Coffee is available for purchase along with some snacks, and there is sauna therapy available as well. Drop in fee is $15, very reasonable, and you can just show up, pay, and get to workout. The gym has a great selection of machines, dumbbells, a few squat racks, a smith machine, benches and a deadlift platform. It is clean throughout and people say it can’t beat for membership rate. The vibe is pretty awesome old school bodybuilding typical of a California beach. Some visitors note a thinly disguised swastika tattoo on a regular, which makes it hard to consider family‑friendly. Everyone was friendly and the owner was awesome giving a run down of the place.
Pretty awesome old school bodybuilding gym typical of what you'd except near a California beach.
