I'm a long-time customer of the owner - JJ.
Before he packed up shop in South Orange County and came to San Diego, I was a customer for over ten years. Here's how he won my business around 2004: I had a Durango at the time and noticed a growling noise occasionally climbing hills. The dealer wanted to just R&R the whole transmission for thousands of dollars. I brought it JJ and he looked at it himself, smelled the transmission fluid and performed a two-finger viscosity test and asked me a question: “Where did you have the transmission fluid changed?” My answer, “Blank fast oil change company.” JJ, “Well, the problem is they used the wrong fluid, right here on the dipstick, it says ATF +, and they probably used ATF. All we need to do is perform a complete flush with ATF + and you’ll be on your way.” As you can imagine, the cost of the flush was a tiny fraction of the cost of a new transmission. That day JJ became my new mechanic and not just for transmissions.
Roll forward to today. I’m bringing a different car to him in San Diego from Orange County because I trust him and his team. This time for ignition system issues.

I was originally directed to take my fleet vehicle to a location that was on base, but because I couldn't access it, I dropped in unannounced to this location. Even so, the owner was happy to take my business. It was a small but tricky repair and he completed it himself with me waiting. They had to order a part but it came within 15 or 20 minutes so I was on my way very quickly. I was so happy with the owner and this location that I look forward to bringing in my personal vehicle the next time it needs service.

JJ was a super stand up guy. I had a horrendous time taking my 2016 ford escape se to mossy ford in PB. I took it to JJ on a whim and he was a breath of fresh air. Dependable and fair, I will be taking my car back to him every time. Don’t go to the, “stealership”, if you can avoid it, come here. I wish to God I’d have found him sooner, but I’m thankful I found him now for my future.

I have taken my minicooper to JJ for very important repairs, and gives me the car so well repaired, last was a hard to diagnose and he was the only one to do it right, several years ago, was the only one that repair something to my transmission, this time to gas pump, and left it running like so good, turn the engine and starts like never before, it starts great like a new car, it runs so smooth like a new car, we are talking of an 18 year old mini, he is knowledgeble and hires good mechanics that know european cars, each time he explained me diagnosis, made so much sense, so glad to have a doctor for my mini, so happy riding it, had lost hope and gained with JJ great care, attention to details, he has the best description of what is happening to your vehicle and is just amazing how he goes and talks what car should do, how he finds it, you know what you are paying is for a job of a knowledgable mechanic, love his work, I neglected my car and he brought it back to life, however dont put gas in mexico, those people add alcohol or something and ruins your gas pump, for transmission, take it only to JJ, he has the tip what to do for that unlike any other I went many years ago, so kept his number and this time helped me so much, he really cares, and you have to select a good mechanic for your car kind of selecting a good doctor for yourself, JJ knows how cars should run and he gets to it. thank you JJ.

James was wonderful! Very honest, and it was very affordable. We had a few transmission problems.
Another shop told us we had to pay $4000 to rebuild the transmission, but this one just took it out for a test drive, and fixed it!
10 years ago, he also rebuilt our RV's transmission. Last Friday, we went there, but he wasn't there, so we went to other shops. The other ones were pretty expensive and we even considered selling our car.
But when we went here, he fixed our problem quickly and efficiently.
I highly recommend him and I give it 5 stars.

Went their for my camry having uphill driving issue. Also had P0420 code.
JJ was great to identify the issue instantly. The car needed new catalytic converter which was rare to find at that time. JJ arranged it somehow the next day and fixed my car in the same day. Now it works fine. Recommed to go there for transmission issue. JJ seems knowledgable.

JJ is the best. He managed to fix my old Jeep and kept me updated all the way. I couldn’t pass smog because of some monitor issue and JJ was able to find the root of the problem and I was able to pass smog. He also changed my transmission and it was like driving a new car. JJ also takes the time to explain everything. I highly recommend JJ !

We came in for a transmission flush on our car before selling. We left with a faulty transmission, losing $3k on the sell.
They did a flush. We took it home. We noticed the transmission was slipping after the flush. We took it back to see if he could fix the problem he caused. He tried, and failed to fix it, but still charged us a lot for the work he put in on his failed attempt. Nice guy though I guess.

JJ was so amazing I went a few weeks ago to get my transmission serviced. It was fast service and he was very communicative throughout the whole process. Prices at this AAMCO are amazing and affordable!!! I was quoted $600+ at other shops and I left AAMCO paying $300. I will definitely be returning for future services. Thank you JJ and your team!!

After I was quoted $80 for an inspection from a neighboring shop, I decided to come here. Came in for a QUESTION related to suspension, not even using their services. A guy came up to me right away and explained the issue immediately, taking away his own free time. He even drove the car and showed me that it was the control arm jolting the wheel forward. Saved $80 and resolved a simple issue. Great shop, great people.

One day my Hyundai suddenly started driving rough, and the check engine light came on. I took it in, and the trouble code suggested there was a transmission-related issue. My usual mechanic does not service transmissions, so, on a whim, I went on to visit the 6696 Miramar Rd AAMCO. I dropped off my car at about 9 am, and the owner JJ was so kind to give me a ride home. He later called to inform me that my car had been stuck in 3rd gear, because my transmission speed sensor needed replacing. I was given an estimate, I authorized the repair, and was told to expect that the work would be completed by that afternoon. Despite being short-staffed, JJ got the job done, and also accommodated me by letting me pick up my vehicle after closing time. Having to get work done on one's car is never convenient, but this shop made the experience painless, and they did it for a very fair price. I strongly encourage other San Diegans to come here for their auto repair needs.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Trying not to cus on this review is also very difficult. This company is one you should NEVER visit. My dad turned my car in to them JUNE 2023 AND THEY STILL HAVE NOT FIXED IT!!!! To this day it is sitting in their parking lot! Let me explain so you can see why you should NEVER bring your car to this company. A year back or two my cars transmission wasn't working. After having it repaired by this company my dad decided to get this stupid company's "warranty". Well, the transmission went bad AGAIN and my dad brought it in to them. They have been DRAGGING their feet on repairing my car and STILL HAVE IT!! My dad has gone by every week to check on the progress and they keep giving him the run around. "We are waiting for the piece to get shipped" or “we don’t have a transmission person to fix it”. This is a company that has “TRANSMISSION” written on their comapny name!!! In 3 months it will have been ONE YEAR! What takes that long to fix? Not even building a car from scratch takes that long. This company will only fix your car in a timely manor if they are getting money for it. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! Their warranty is absolutely useless unless you never want to see your car again. I am currently reading up on lawyers and what legal process I can get in order to get this car fixed because it's not able to be driven off their lot at this time and they are not working on it. If you read any review READ THIS ONE!!
UPDATE!!!!
Back with another update for you potential customers!! PLACE IS TERRIBLE!!!!! For a recap if you weren't able to see my first review, this place has kept my car in their parking lot for 9 MONTHS with excuses on why they didn't get to working on the car yet. We had a warranty with them since the first time our transmission went bad and had to be replaced. They did a choppy job and the car was brought back to them and since they are making no money from this job they have KEPT THE CAR! now that you are up to date here real time issues: they finally "fixed the transmission" and they called my dad to pick the car up at 9am this morning. HE IS CURRENTLY BROKEN DOWN ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY UP NORTH!!!!!! Less than 6 hours after they "fixed the car" none of the gears of the car work only reverse WHILE ON THE FREEWAY!!!!! like I've said before and will continue to say: DON'T GET YOUR CAR FIXED HERE!!!!
