I was a little weary after seeing conflicting reviews. But I gave them a try and happy I went with my gut. I scheduled a car for pickup at 10:00a.m., booked it at 9:20a.m.When I got there, I was greeted by Terri (I believe that was her name).She gave me instructions on how to gain access to the garage. I was there maybe 5 minutes before I was in the car and on my way. Drop off was easy. Same garage, dropped off the car, went inside (Terri greeted me again) and got the receipt. Was out the door in about 3 minutes.All in all it was a great experience and I will use them when I’m back in San Diego! Thanks Avis !

Customer service is great, particularly at the location I picked up/dropped off my rental. I can't say the same for the downtown and mission valley location. The car was one of my liking and the prices were great.

If I could rent from here, everywhere I go, I would. This is the best place I have ever rented a car from and the best people I've ever dealt with. We rented a car twice from them during our stay. The first time I left my sunglasses and camera in it, and they called me to give it back. WHOA- Amazing people.

Seriously about as no frills as it gets. The website is easy to make a reservation for whatever your needs may be in a car. Didn't need anything fancy or high end, so I opted for the economy Mitsubishi whatever the heck it was. At $39 for 24/hrs and unlimited miles, I wasn't going to be picky with my choice of car.

Wow, a really great experience, no wonder this place is highly rated. Called the day before to see what they had in their inventory. Said they had a mustang GT which I was excited about. They held the car for me until this morning and have me the upgrade without an upcharge! Very easy rental process and both ladies that assisted me were great. It also looked like they also had a good variety of cars when I went down. Couldn't have been a better process so far.

The car was disgusting and dirty during a time where cleanliness is more important than ever, the customer service was atrocious and I called the main line to send photos of the disgusting condition of the car and I was given a false email address. Terrible all around and will never use it again.

The Avis Agency Operator (Carol) I rented from is always extremely kind, courteous and thorough in renting me a vehicles. She is always very professional, prepared and very accommodating. I try to go to this location as much as possible when I rent a vehicle in the San Diego area.

I travel full-time and recently joined Avis to start using them soley for my rental needs. This past weekend I rented a car and everything was great until I returned the car tonight and checked my credit card to see I was charged double the rate I was quoted for the extra day I added to my reservation. When I called customer service to inquire about it, I was informed that prices always fluctuate so what I was told by the rep on the day I picked up the car was not necessarily accurate for a future date. I understand this was probably my fault for not asking the total when I called to request an additional day but I'm bummed the rep didn't clarify the quote and tell me to ask day of what the actual price may be. And I'm bummed the rep I talked to today didn't give me a total and confirm I still wanted the extra day. I should have asked and I didn't but now I'm paying the consequences. So make sure you always ask the reps what you're being charged. This experience didn't build trust and while I learned a valuable lesson I won't repeat, it also left me with a bad taste and I'll probably find a different car rental service for my future needs.

The whole experience was smooth and worry-less. The scheduled pick-up spot was closed when I finished my business but then another spot replaced me with another car with the same rate. The return process was also super easy.

Best rental experience. I got Kia Sportage. I got upgraded to Buick SUV (really big one) but I persisted to keep a smaller one and the staff assisted my request immediately. I liked the way she worked, very honest and sincere. I usually get nervous when I return a rent car since the rental car company charges an weird extra money, but I did not have no anxiety this time since she informed me about the car and their fees very well. I appreciate what she had provided. I recommend this place,and I will also come back again.

The car and everything was good. Just had problems when we got the bill a few days later and they were claiming we had some sort of a toll bill in Oregon the same day we picked it up in San Diego, and we never even left the San Diego area. Just a headache dealing with that kind of nonsense.

Excellent Avis location. The owner/operator was easy to work with. Very clear and useful instructions. The car she gave me was in great condition and she was very up front about any existing dings/scratches on the car. Highly recommended.

Our experience with Avis at the airport rental center Was horrible. We reserved a full size truck for our 10 day trip and they tried to give us a Frontier which is not full size but they say it is. However, They agreed to rent the Titan Full size to us. Within one day, the engine light comes on in the truck so we had to lose a whole day of our trip and drive 4 hours to exchange the truck. They gave us a much smaller Tacoma with the short bed and it had only half a tank of gas even though we gave them one with a full tank of gas. They refused to drive us up a bigger truck when it became available. When our camping trip was over we had to leave so much of our personal belongings behind because it wouldn't fit. We took pictures and when it was time to return the truck they did not sympathize and were not willing to compensate our loss. They offered $100 off our rental. That is less than the cost of insurance! We had to talk to the manager for over an hour and he didn't care at all. Didn't care if we left a bad review. He had the audacity to say it was our fault for exchanging the truck in the first place. They should have never given us a rental that was not in excellent conditiI will never rent from Avis again and I do not recommend avis to anyone.

Friendly staff. Got fast service. We rented a almost new car. It had very low miles on the vehicle. Unfortunately, when we opened the trunk to place our luggage in it. The trunk was filthy with paper, etc left from previous renters. The outside of the vehicle was very cleaned. I strongly recommend Avis have someone check the trunk of each vehicle while getting it cleaned.

The pricing is quite decent with better service here at this near downtown location versus the San Diego Airport's Avis. The latter, a newer car rental mega hub (with the huge rip off rental car fees). Anyway, here they'll pick you up and drop you off within a limited radius (say 2 mi. or so). The catch? Though, they can't to or from the airport. Uber it, or a cab. One other thing here to really consider. If you're booking through somebody like Priceline.com, if you have a Avis wizard number make sure that you put it in at the time of your making your online reservation. Otherwise, you won't get the damn rental points through Avis's loyality program. I got screwed big time on this deal! They couldn't do it before I closed out the rental upon dropping it off. And Avis customer service wouldn't do it afterwards either. The Avis counter agent had said they would (wrong info.). Good luck!

I've rented here twice and they've been terrific both times. Very friendly and efficient and it's a great location. I'll need a rental car many times over the next few months and will definitely be renting from here again!
