I had a 4-day rental at the Avis at the rancho Bernardo and San Diego I had a great vehicle which was a upgrade from my reservation the staff was friendly courteous kind The vehicle was clean new and very beautiful leather equipped interior considering I only spent less than $190 for a 4-day rental and got a Dodge Durango SUV upgrade I consider choosing Avis in the future for all of my car rental needs especially since I also by using my Amazon account will be getting a gift card in the amount of 20% of my rental price can't beat that thank you Avis

I use Avis quite a bit, so as a rental agency, I think they're are generally great (the one on Poway Rd for instance has been really reliable). This location was less than ideal- in customer service, etc. They charged the maximum rate and every add-on possible- and weren't terribly friendly while doing it.Ex: When I asked about extending my rental an extra day (a Tuesday) they said the rate almost doubled because of an "extension fee". (I looked- I could have just returned the car and re-rented for less than what I was paying, so it wasn't a matter of availability.) I ended up just returning the car. They're not horrendous or anything, but I will avoid renting here in the future.

The most important part of renting a car is the price and availability. They are not able to meet both. Try near by locations especially rentals near Mira Mesa for almost $50 less per day compared to this place

I have a Reservation at 9. I came at 08:40AM itself and yet the associate refused to give me a car despite having cars at the location. I wouldn’t recommend this location unless it’s your lash option.

The staff member at Rancho Bernardo AVIS in San Diego was very helpful. The car was clean. The only problem was at LA airport that the AVIS shuttle driver did not stop at Virgin Atlantic and dropped us an stop earlier.

1.5 hrs to pick up the car in spite of having confirmed booking. 50+ customers and had only one serving, taking turnsWent there at 1125pm. Left there after 1pm. Had to book a taxi from LAX to SD for others since I got stuck here. Very bad experience. I'm not sure if it is Avis or Avis at LAX. But never again, Avis.

I’m LA airport I couldn’t got the car as it was too crowded. But in San Diego I got really good car and cost wise also it was ok.

The manager, Richard Cranium, refused to honor Corporate discount and would not rent us a car. SO Greedy. AVOID.

When I arrived to pick up my rental, the door was locked. A note on the door said to call or text, which I did, but there was no response. As I was leaving, another customer came and explained that there is often only one person here, so they are sometimes in the back or getting gas. She called the number, and someone immediately picked up and said they would be right out. 15 minutes later, someone came. She had been at the car wash. After helping the other two customers (I was an hour early) she quickly grabbed a few sets of keys, explaining she had just been delivered several cars and was going to see if any of them were suitable. See the pictures. If this was the best car they had, I pity the fool (Mr. T reference) renting another midsize vehicle. She also mentioned there was only half a tank of gas, but to take a photo in case they charged me for not returning it full. Finally, the car smelled of smoke and air freshener. After all the signs in the lobby that stated hundreds of dollars in penalties if you smoke in the car, and since my phone doesn't have smell-o-vision, I tried calling customer service. There is no option for " this car is not acceptable " in the automated menu, so we are off to Disneyland in what my daughter labeled the Mitsubishi Smokelander.I was going to make it one star, but the woman behind the counter was really hustling and doing her best, so I had to give an extra star for her.

Buyer beware. Take pictures of your car inside and out before you leave. Our car was damaged, dirty and had pet hair.When I brought it to the employees attention, they said they would note it in the file, which they did. However, they did not offer to wipe down the car inside, when I told them that it was a layer of sand in the car. When I told them my husband and I had allergies. They said their vacuum was broken, so they could not vacuum pet hair out of the car. They did not offer to send me to the local car wash 5 minutes up the road to get it cleaned out, at their expense. They told me if I wanted another car I could go to a different AVIS and swap it out because they did not have another car. They are not rude, but they did not care that they gave me a bad product. If it were not for the convenience, I would not go back.

So I was about to post 5 star review for this place, but today changed everything.Here it goes: I've been renting in this place twice recently for the holidays and after NYE with no problems. Today I arrived and expected fast check-in process for my reservation (as usual), but instead I has been declined to start my rent due to my foreign driving license. Okay, this happens sometimes around the world, rentals ask me for driving license and my passport, but never they ask for it when I'm renting in the same place several times - they have all needed data already, why bother client? So I went back to my house, took passport and returned. Guess what? Manager says that she cannot give me a car. Reason? My documents are no accepted by some scaner device (which is mostly for US driving licenses). Then she called someone to check if it is allowed to give me a car when I have foreign driving license and passport. After this call her response was - no, I cannot give you a rental. On my question - how could that be possible for someone who rented twice from this exact place and other rentals in the US with the same documents? - she responded: I am a manager here and I decide. While I was trying to get my rental my phone went dead, I had to find some juice to call Uber. Needless to say that my plans for the whole day were messed: most rentals in the area are closing at noon on Saturdays.

The vehicle provided at this Avis Rancho Bernardo location (zip 92128) had excessive vibrations in the rear seats, indicating a possible tire balancing issue. Besides the car problem, I think this location is short-staffed, there is typically only 1 employee working, which caused delays to the pickup. Also the cleanliness of cars at this location is sub-par, and I was also not provided a car reserved under my original category (full-size)

Located next to McD drive through. Staff are friendly and helpful.As usual cars from Avis are almost brand new and kept clean.
