Rude staff, extra rude veterinarians. They are drug peddlers and push unnecessary procedures. It's all about money. They are only interested in pushing extremely overpriced unnecessary at best (dangerous at worst) drugs and procedures. One of the worst Banfields. Avoid....

I have attempted to schedule my dog to get 1 shot 4 separate times. I arrived to day for the 4th time and they told me the vet is on lunch and that they can do her shots an hour and 15 minutes later. This is ridiculous. I wold recommend going anywhere but here

I have had a repeated horrible experience with Dr. Smith. She is unprofessional, misinformed, condescending, won't explain things properly, lies over and over, is rude, and I don't trust her. I left today feeling depressed and sick to my stomach. I explained to Dr. Smith that my cats temperature was not taken at the last visit last week (Dr. Smith was not there that day) and she lied and made up a story about why the temperature was not taken (I was in the room during the visit so I know what took place) and when I stated it wasn't true she became short and nasty with me.Dr. Smith lied to me again stating that it is the law for cats to be vaccinated for rabies. It is not, I have looked it up online and called the county animal services and it was confirmed that cats are not mandated to have a rabies shot. She has lied to me about this before and I complained before, apparently she chooses to continue to lie. She told me that a rabid bat could fly into my home and bite my cat and that it would mean my cat would need to be euthanized. I have never in my almost 55 years heard of anyone or anyones animal being bitten by a bat! This is ridiculous to instill fear at this level for a risk that is so low. It is complete fraud!!She accused me of being unfair to my cat because I want to treat the fleas (1st time we have them) naturally. She didn't bother to ask what I was doing to treat...she just went into a rant about how the natural treatments are dangerous...um...not what I am using, thanks for not asking and instead assuming. She informed me that fleas carry all kinds of diseases and when I asked for explanation she rapidly mumbled something while walking away from me instead of having the patience to explain things properly. What is unfair is that Dr. Smith has in the past, out of her own negligence, severely misdiagnosed my cat on several health issues when I first brought him in as a kitten. Her ego seems to trump human decency and she lacks providing adequate and expected services.Dr. Smith seems to push unnecessary services and treatments (I'm guessing to meet some business quotas), without proper explanation. She left the room with a bad attitude and shaking her head because I won't blindly follow her recommendations that are based on lies. Horrible and unacceptable service.

Avoid at all costs. Been with banfield for more than 5 years and this is the only location that’s ever given us issues regarding professionalism and care for pet. The employees appear to lack training, their internal communication is nonexistent, they are not professional, last minute cancellations (every. Single. Appt. They cancel 2 hours before appt, reschedule, then cancel you again), inability to use care credit, hours listed are not correct, & after the interactions I’ve had with them I worry they are negligent to the animals in their care. Take your pet to a different banfield location & you’ll be fine. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

Worst place ever. They don't even deserve 1 star. Staff is uneducated & unprofessional. Brought my pets here for their appointment at 7:30 am, medicated them as told. My appointment want canceled because I didn't answer my phone the day before. I work at an orthodontic office and am unable to answer my phone during the day because I'm working inside peoples mouths. Being from a field that keeps a schedule we always keep appointments that haven't been confirmed. Confirmation is nice, but not necessary. The old dr/staff was better. Don't bring your animals here

Edit—first, for anyone trying to get out of their wellness plan, here’s a hint. If you just stop making payments, they cancel it for you automatically and there are no penalties/credit hits. Just stop paying and you’re free.—While the wellness plan can be helpful, the price has increased exponentially from when I started. There’s a ton of turnover and it seems like any vet I really like and that does a great job leaves soon after I meet them. My biggest disappointment, however, has been the front desk staff/whoever answers the phones. Every time I call for what I consider to be simple issues, it always ends with them offering zero help and me getting extremely frustrated. Either the staff is completely incompetent and can’t figure out basic tasks, or they are missing brain cells. My last 4-5 interactions have been me scheduling a comprehensive exam and blood test that comes with my wellness plan, and then showing up and finding they only scheduled the comprehensive. They then remind me in every interaction that my cat has not had her blood tests done and that I need to bring her in for it. Getting a prescription for her diabetes needles has been a NIGHTMARE. I keep asking for a running prescription and they keep writing one time refills and trying to explain this to the front desk staff is somehow IMPOSSIBLE. To avoid this, I switched to regular needles instead of pen needles, but when I ran out, I was told I of course need a new prescription. I have another size needle at home and when I asked them to confirm the conversion that I found online, I was told that only a doctor can do simple math, and the doctor would be in 4 days from now. So wish me and my cat luck, I suppose! Nurses apparently aren’t allowed to do math and the front desk will not ask. When I asked them to send my needle prescription to the pharmacy, the front desk person said they can’t, it’s a written prescription. And I said, so? Can you have them write a new one and send that? No, it’s written, and they can’t just write another. Why not? No answer. I asked if there was a reason why it can’t be sent, and he just kept saying, cuz it’s written. Then I called the pharmacy and asked if there was any reason that the vet can’t send my needle prescription digitally and they laughed and said no. So, WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON AT THAT FRONT DESK??

This past week I took my terrier for a dental cleaning appointment at Banfield Animal Hospital located in La Jolla, CA. I was told he had no appointment but leave him and they would squeeze him in. When I picked him up they informed me the dental cleaning could not be performed because they may have detected a heart condition and the cardiologist would be in the following week to perform tests in the amount of $500. I have called the office not to renew my Wellness Plan up for renewal in January 2023. Spoke to someone named Edgardno who stated I should receive written confirmation within 24 hours my credit card will not be charged for plan starting in January. Please be aware there are 84 pages of complaints on The Better Business Bureau regarding renewal and other problems regarding Banfield Pet Hospital. Shady company owned By Mars Candy.

Very disappointed! My dog, Gizmo went over the rainbow. I called to cancel my dog health plan and your representative informed me I would have to complete the payments for my plan (4 more months). Now I can afford this but if my dog has died the plan should end out of compassion for the family!

I have only dealt with them one time, on an emergency basis and Dr. Thompson, along with Rosalanita were extremely helpful. I was heading out of town and my dog was missing 1 vaccine to stay at the boarding and when rosalanita overheard the situation, she offered to help by asking Dr. Thompson if they can give him the vaccine (even though they were closing). They took care of me within 5 minutes and closed up shop. I was able to drop him off to boarding and continue with my trip. Extremely grateful for their generosity.

RosaLinda is COMPLETELY DISRESPECTFUL and sent me on a wild goose chase to look up my account.I gave her my phone number, and she told me couldn't "find my info"After I repeatedly asked her to look closer. She then told me to call "other locations" to get my account info and "call her back".She refused to let me three way in another location to prove to her that it was user error. She said Monday was available and then sent me to do admin work and then hung up. She also didn't answer the phone. She got someone else to answer, Ramona, playing games and putting me on hold. Ramona's behavior was unacceptable and the call should be pulled for review. She is putting my pets health at risk by cancelling my appointment and saying there is nothing open. I pay thousands of dollars per year for these services.Banfield corporate needs to see why there are such bad reviews at this location. Super super upset. They cost me $300 at work because I moved an appointment to take their appointment they later lied about it not being available and said "there were no appointments coming up anytime soon" and LIED TO MY FACE AT A MEDICAL PRACTICE!

I have had a plan at this banfield for about 2 1/2 years. I've taken my dog Bella in many times here and most recently within the last year they have showed they don't care about you or your pet.Firstly I had taken Bella in to get a regular exam/checkup to get updated on shots. They preformed an "eye pressure test" witch they didn't include in the coversation in what they would be doing that day. They scratched both of her eyes while doing it causing obvious pain and discomfort when I took her home she could barley open here eyes. I took her back so they can do something about it. Firstly they had no intention of saying they scratched her eyes, they said they think it was my dog "rubbing her eyes" she was already squinting before leaving the store. When I brought her back they had zero intention of admitting that they did It so that I had to pay for the ointment and cone they made me take home witch came to about 50-60 dollars . Nothing but a cash grab with people that don't wanna take liability. Now that's what led me to want to cancel my plan. A little more than a year ago I had gotten the upgraded plan for x rays and extra things because my dog was pregnant it came to $80 a month. I asked when we could cancel or switch plans. The person that signed us up said that after 1 year you will be able to cancel or switch back plans. That's pretty much all he said, but when I called to cancel my plan they claimed I still need to pay $1500 (the remainder of the plan?) I had herd nothing about this and have my mom as a witness to that. The person at the desk CLEARLY said you can cancel after 1 year but I guess these banfield stores dont have any integrity, honesty, or any other thing you would want in someone that has your dogs life in their hands.

My puppy Mila got into a bag of raw rice and the team at Banfield La Jolla squeezed her in! Thank god they were able to squeeze us in. Because due to Dr Denton's thorough eval he saved her! He Had to remove a stomach full of raw rice and Mila is back in puppy mode. Thank you Dr Denton and the nurses and staff @ Banfield La Jolla! Caring, kind, thorough, and did the right thing. Appreciate you all!

Dr. Smith is absolutely amazing providing the best care for Trixy and Ringo. Trixy has renal disease and is only alive because of Dr. Smith's recommendations, treatment, and care! She recently had a torn cruciate ligament in her knee and we didn't think she would walk again. However with medication treatment and accupuncture she is now walking on all four legs again. Thank you Dr. Smith. Her receptionist is the best too! La Jolla Banfield is by far the best Banfield!

Take your business ELSEWHERE. We paid those scammers for a year and the plan included spaying our dog. They did not have any appointments available for months and when they finally got us in - the front desk person told us that we needed to come earlier and since now the 12 months mark has already expired - we need to pay the ANOTHER $1,200 to get our dog spayed!I will charge back every payment I made to those scammers and get my dog to a nice a professional clinic in TJ at literally 1/10 of those scammers prices. Do yourself a favor, check TJ clinics and stay away from Banfield and all of their unprofessional scamming business practices.
