This is a great place to see all kinds of boards. You gotta have $$$ to purchase one though. Majority of the boards looked like they were meant to be purchased as wall art. Maybe it's just me but I've never spent $1,000+ on a surfboard I'm taking out in the water. I highly recommend checking out all the boards though. Staff was nice to us while we were in there.

My wife had a conference in San Diego, so I tagged along renting a Jeep and looking for a surfboard to rent. I surf the East Coast and was excited to test out what the West Coast had going on. We went to Black’s Beach to check out the view and the waves. I asked a local surfer in the parking lot, if he were me what surf shop would he go to. He told me to go to Bird’s. I quickly jumped in the car and drove to Birds’s Surf Shed before they closed. When I got there Bird and his staff made my whole week. Bird’s hooked me up with a board for the rest of my trip himself and recommended some spots I might want to check out. I find out later that Bird is the one who does the local Surfline report, who better to get recommendations from. You can go to Birds Surf Shed or the OB Shed in Ocean Beach. The vibe is supper friendly and inviting. Bird and his crew made my trip. I look forward to making it back every year. They are the best!

Wow, what a great surf shop. The.staff are super knowledgeable and friendly. Lots of boards to choose from and lots of unique surf accessories, including things like Patagonia shorts, surfboard stands, lots of wetsuits and rash guards, etc. This shop is in a quonset hut. The ceiling is lined with old and classic boards. This place definitely has a ton if respect for the history of the sport.

Bird is this man this is an awesome surf shop that Will absolutely get you what you need to get started without ripping you off. Got my first board from here and my ex girlfriend hit me over the head with it and there wasn't even a dent

Very friendly knowledgeable and decently priced. Sales rep helped me pick out a wetsuit and they gave me feedback on the size I needed. It's been 25 since I wore a wetsuit and I'm not a surfer but they treated just as nice as anybody.

If you've read any of my other reviews you will see a theme or a trend. Bird's surf shed is an overwhelming museum of surfboards. Surrounded by a surf shop that is run by good people. Bird is good people and hires people that know their stuff. So the formulaGood products + Good people = A successful business sharing the stoke.

I always get great advice from the employees, they have walked me through the process of ding repairs, they helped me with removing and placing traction pads, and overall a great experience. They are so willing to help with things that may not benefit them economically that anytime I need something surf related I go straight to birdshed

If you enjoy surfing, surfboards or anything in between this place may be heaven to you. All along the walls and ceilings are decades of history engrained through art via surfboards. Bird himself is a humble and extremely nice person. We had a great event here last night for Rusty/Surf Journal. Can't wait to come back!

I can’t say enough about the good karma and good vibes coming from Bird’s. My son and I were on a quick three day sneak attack surf trip coming in from Virginia, and our bag with our gear including my wetsuit, didn’t make it from the East Coast…They had an awesome selection to help fill in the gear that didn’t make it, and while they don’t rent wetsuits at this location, Bird let me borrow one of his for the three days until my gear finally arrived.After all of the issues we had had over the previous day and a half, having someone come through for you like that was truly awesome. Anytime I’m back in San Diego, Bird will absolutely have my business!
