While they do not have the selection they used to have it is still a good store to go to. I used the bag my own groceries for the first time. Loved it .. thanks

Let me start off by saying I've been coming here for a few years and that most of the people who work here that I've encountered are pleasant and helpful. That said, unfortunately the typical scene is bad produce and empty shelves. I understand that the shutdown probably made it worse but this is ridiculous. Even before the shutdown there would be rotten fruit and vegetables and poorly stocked shelves. I have to wonder if it's more a management thing than anything else. Even on the non refrigerated shelves it looks like this. Sad

Of all the military commissaries in San Diego County, this is the very worst. Bagged salad turns brown days before the expiration date. Expired items are left in the salad section. Spills are not cleaned up in a timely manner. There are never enough open cash registers. Seems like at least half the cash registers are closed during business hours. Credit card readers are unreliable resulting in rejected cards due to technical difficulties. The managers are rude. Be aware if the store's credit card readers have a glitch and reject your credit card, you will be treated as if you are trying to commit a scam. You can insist there is nothing wrong with your credit card or account, even offer to call the credit card company, but a manager will stand in front of you in the presence of cashiers, baggers, and customers and insist you use a debit card. If you use military commissaries, go to the big main commissary at MCB Camp Pendleton or the big commissary at Naval Base San Diego. The commissary at NAS North Island is smaller, but very nice too. The NAS North Island Commissary is also next to the nicest Navy Exchange complex of any of the San Diego area Navy bases.

You can't beat the price on fresh meat here. Thr employees are rude though, and that is why the two stars. Rude and condescending, especially the heavy set black woman who is sometimes at the self serve line.

Not much point to showing up early: by 0915 and even before the line stretches back most of the way to the comm. ofc, and this 0930 crowd seems to behave more "frantically" once they're in. (The line does move quickly once the doors open). The COVID vigilance is waning, and some shoppers pull their masks down once inside: nobody says anything (even ACDU Marines wandering around unmasked). No "seniors" hours that I'm aware of (tho I have contacted comm. area mngmt and been assured there would be, but that was well over a month ago). 2 of the 4 self checkout machines have been inop my last 2 visits; sometimes the other one (wi the conveyor) as well, so expect at least short lines for self c-o, even at off times. Fresh meat and other products are being rationed on a per household basis. So just pick an off-time, away fm paydays, weekends, and the 0930 crowd, and exercise lots of personal COVID awareness on your own, esp if you're in a high-risk group (eg, 60+). Stocks are slowly improving, but how much is just due to the anti-hoarding limits I'm not sure (not that some aren't being allowed to slip by...)

If you're a member of the armed forces and get to use the Commissary it is quite a nice perk. The feel of the store is a bit dated I'll admit - it feels like I'm stuck in the 80's but it's clean, well stocked and the prices are consistently better than your typical supermarket. They attempt to minimize cost and waste through short sales and clearance piles, perhaps a bit too aggressively sometimes. Buyer beware - use your own judgement for the risk/reward ratio. But you should be doing that in your daily life anyway right? Everything can't be dumbed down all the time. While not the most glamorous grocery shopping experience it gets the job done, especially if you're on a budget and just want to feed your family.

Large, spacious store. Wide selection of produce available. Always busy with long lines for check out lanes (one line directs you to many check out stations). But the staff keeps line moving, so customers keep moving. Store employees are omni present, keeping shelves and displays full and ready for customers.

Average savings...20%. No Tax, just a 5% surcharge. Usually better selection than "Civilian Grocery stores". Even though I use reusable bags, they don't charge extra for plastic or paper bags.

This place is perfect for your everyday shopping needs. The prices beat nearly every store in San Diego, the customer service is great, and they carry all of the items I need, and all of the brands I want! The only issue I have is the long lines, but that's something that the store manager can fix. This place is absolutely amazing, and I recommend it to everyone everywhere!

Just shopped there yesterday. Walked in, filled up my cart, and out within 30 minutes. Best time ever!
