ON THE BALL ! My wife and I were down in San Diego on Friday with all sorts of stuff to do including a dental appointment in Bankers Hill at midday. We had so much stuff on our list that an overnight stay in San Diego was a must. My wife who is so good at finding hotel accommodation booked us a 4th floor room at this hotel in Old Town...a very handy location for us. At $160 a night plus optional an $27 for a secure undercover parking space. CHECK-IN ! After taking care of our dental appointment and then a lovely lunch at Caffe Calabria in North Park we headed over here around 3pm. Check-in time was 4pm but they let us go up to our room straight way. Of course we took the $27 option of undercover parking...it is worth it to us. The room looked fine but straight off the bat there was a problem with the toilet continuously flushing. A quick call to reception and a young service guy named Seth was dispatched to our room to fix the faulty flush. AND HE DID ! There was also a problem with hot running water...I had run the basin hot water faucet for 10 minutes and it was stone cold. Seth explained the hotel had just been closed for 2 days for maintenance and there was a service technician working on the hot water heater. A nice hot shower would have been nice to freshen up but that wasn't going to happen anytime soon by the looks. We were more than little concerned that hot water might not be available in the morning.....gotta have that wake-up hot shower. My wife called the manager at the reception desk and he assured us that hot water would be flowing by the morning. AND IT WAS ! To make up for our inconvenience he comped us the $ 27 undercover parking charge. When we returned around 8pm after a fabulous dinner at Alforon in City Heights we ran into Seth the service guy in the parking garage who told us the hot water was working. The bed was comfortable, our pillows were fluffy, the air con operated quietly and the flat screen TV worked well. Even though the hotel was adjacent to the noisy freeway we didn't notice any obtrusive noise during the night. We loved the secure undercover parking which was very handy to the elevator but maybe at $27 a hit most guests would rather give it a miss. After all the huge parking garage was virtually empty but street parking outside was packed to the max. A $15 parking charge might be more attractive for everyone. And we had lovely hot showers before we headed off at 7.45am for breakfast at Cafe 21 in University Heights. We checked out just after 10am on Saturday. A GOOD STAY !NOTE - Of course with over 22 million views of my Yelp reviews and pics world wide in 2022 I can tell you what is great !

I was looking for a centrally located hotel that was nice to stay at for the week and this one was great. Other than the parking being overcrowded by giant vehicles the hotel was great. I was able to rent a car and easily drive around with my niece and nephew to Balboa and the Marina and downtown without having to deal with much traiffic.Nearby activities: Walking distance to Old Town and quick drive to all San Diego has to offer.

It's clean, but super small room. The Starbucks was closed at 10:30 am so we couldn't get coffee, the stuff in the room tasted like poison. For what we paid I'd say it's definitely not worth it. The location it's in felt safe though.Rooms: SmallNearby activities: Pechanga arenaSafety: Neighborhood seemed safeWalkability: Best to ride share

TLDR: Make sure your room is in the main hotel and not in the Annex building because the rooms are noisy and old.I booked 3 nights here. The first night I was put into the Annex building (room 125) which was *terrible* - the walls are thin and you will hear all of your neighbours. The rooms also have old-style air conditioning wall units which are loud and clunky. That room in particular is right next to the external door so everyone who goes in and out sounds like they are trying to get into your room... Doesn't lead to a restful night.I changed rooms to 219 in the main hotel and this was much better - ducted air conditioning, better decor in the rooms and *quiet*. The staff was helpful in the move - I suspect I'm not the first person to do this.

Great reception staff especially Jared he was very welcoming. The outdoor poo opened year round is heated. Short walk to Amtrak and airport Flyer service. Parking is a bit expensive at 27 USD but still reasonable.

This would be a one-star review based on the service, with the exception of the fact that the staff did let me check in early, which was great. The location is fantastic, walking distance to multiple restaurants. The room was tired.I called the front desk just after my arrival to report that my a/c unit was making a strange clicking noise. They sent the engineer up to check it out. He seemed extremely nice, but didn't speak ANY english, making it impossible to communicate effectively. The unit didn't make the noise while he was there (just like when you take your car to the mechanic), so it was lucky that I had taken a video of it and could show him. He couldn't find any problems with it. I THOUGHT he said he was going to have his supervisor come by, but no one ever showed, so maybe I misunderstood. It didn't seem like priority at the time, because the unit was quiet until.....you guessed it.........the middle of the night. Then came the clicking AND it stopped cooling. When I got out of bed and walked over to check on it (barefoot, of course!), I discovered a very wet spot on the carpet between the two queen beds. Not coming from the a/c unit, but an unrelated issue that I hadn't noticed earlier because I had shoes on.After a miserable night of being warm, listening to the annoying clicking, and wondering what I had stepped in, I shared my experience with the gentleman manning the front desk when I left. He seemed annoyed (although it was really early and I was the only person in sight, so it wasn't like he had other guests to worry about), but said he'd add 1,000 Bonvoy points to my account for my troubles---not a very equitable offer when you consider that I redeemed 35,000 points for this one night stay. As of the date of this review......over a WEEK after this incident, I still haven't received the 1,000 points.Later that same day, I received what looked like a canned email from someone named Omar, whose signature block indicates that he is the Front Desk Lead Agent at the hotel. The message was your standard "thank you for staying at our hotel.....look forward to having you as our guest again soon." Thankful to have another opportunity to share my feedback, I explained the situation with my room, even attaching the video of the problem with the a/c unit. That was on Tuesday, Nov 14. No reply. I even emailed them again earlier this week to prompt them to respond to confirm that they'd received my email. Still nothing. Do better, Marriott, because right now it seems like you no longer care about your guests. Next time I'm traveling for business or pleasure, I'll look for something other than the Marriott brand in hopes of finding a hotel that still cares about customer service.

This hotel was just ok. The rooms were ok. Supposedly, the rooms are upgraded and they have new mirrors but other than that, carpet looked old, furniture looked old, the doors and floors looked old and worn out. The TV in the room didn’t work well. They turned off the internet in the room early and checked us out even before we checked out! Staff was ok. They weren’t rude but definitely didn’t do a great job. When we first arrived we were given the wrong room. No toiletries in the room. I had to call and ask for them. We were suppose to receive a credit for food with our gold elite membership and we didn’t. Location was ok. It is walking distance to old town but the area where this hotel is located isn’t that good. We drove instead. We have stayed at the Hacienda up the street and that one is much, much, better. I wouldn’t stay here again.

Horrible rooms we went down to take the family to San Diego and my wife and 7 year old daughter woke up with bug bites all over my wife had to go to urgent care the following day. Never again and said to say since we always stay at a Marriott locations on every trip we take for business or pleasure.

I'm still staying at this hotel and I don't have Wi-Fi in the room. They didn't even offer another room, they just said I could go to another hotel or buy internet and they would pay for it. How will I buy if I'm from another country? It's absurd not to have internet in your room in the 21st century. I do not recommend this hotel. I'll see what to do today because I need to work on my room.

This Hotel deserves higher reviews! They are so so so so nice here! And also it's so beautiful inside and outside! There's tons of parking for when you are checking in as well, which is always super nice! The rooms are a little small but great priced! Highly recommend staying here. You won't regret it! Thank you to all the staff at this location!Safety: Staff always on sight and key cardsWalkability: It is a far walk to some partsFood & drinks: Lots of food and drink optionsNoteworthy details: Great for the price!

Very pleasant staff. Bed was comfortable. They do have the streaming services on new TVs, which is great for hanging out, and the desk chair is office-style making the work area comfortable. The location is a quick walk to the shops and restaurants and far enough away where the sounds of Old Town don't intrude. On the down side, the air conditioning is barely functional, the elevators are claustrophobia-inducing, and the parking is inconvenient. I could hear the people in the room above every time they were walking. Fortunately, they were not night owls.

I stayed here for work. Very nice hotel and located a couple blocks from old town. Great staff and the room was very nice. The restaurant is good. I ordered a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich with salad. I had vinegarette dressing. The sandwich was delicious and the bacon was cooked perfection. The salad was good. The salted chocolate chip cookie was delicious and soft. The staff here at the hotel have been great and the ambiance is customer service friendly. Great hotel to stay at for business or pleasure.

This stay left a VERY bad taste in my mouth. I had an incident where I dropped my car keys down the elevator shaft, which obviously is regrettable. And I am super glad it was resolved, with the Hotel's help. But everything that happened after the drop, on the hotel's part, was completely bonkers. They reached out to the elevator company to come out as soon as possible and I told them to PLEASE give me a price before we had them come out. Which was fully agreed to. In the meantime, I had found multiple locksmiths to REPLACE the keys for just a couple hundred dollars. Instead, the Hotel authorized the elevator company to come out at the cost of $700 which I had no choice but to pay. I understand this incident was my fault but I was told that they would contact me before pulling the trigger on the elevator company coming out. Before that, when I initially dropped it, one of the night managers who was at the front desk when it happened said "we'll see what we can do to comp one of your rooms for the night to help offset the cost". Which was very kind. However, the next day when that was brought up to the front desk guy not only would they not do that, but they also said you're lucky we didn't charge you to $1000 which is what we usually do". This was honestly so cringey he to learn. I'm not sure why they would take this opportunity to profit off of a guest and furthermore why you would openly admit that to a customer. That's so gross. I was also told in the morning that an on-site manager would be around to speak to me before we left to go back to Los Angeles. What ended up happening is that the on-site manager was there but the front desk person told me that she did not want to talk to me, are not willing to talk to me, and that we have to pay the $700 in full... end of story. Then, after leaving and returning back home, I tried to reach the general management for over a week before someone would even talk to me. And once I did reach someone, it was the same manager from before who had rejected us and the general manager would not be bothered to have a conversation and hear me out. I hate to leave these kinds of reviews. I really do. But this was especially bad service and very expensive as a result. I will definitely will NEVER be staying here ever again. Shame on them for handling this so poorly. I know I made a mistake..there's no denying that. But they really made no effort to work with me or make me feel like a valued customer.

The room and customer service were great. The GM went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of. The bartender as well was super professional and friendly. Thank you for an awesome stay.
