5 Stars for the Diamond Head Inn.This is a great hotel to stay at if you're planning on spending the majority of your time at the beach. The rooms can be a bit beat up so if you're planning on spending the majority of your time at the hotel or having a more luxury experience, you should look elsewhere. You won't find a better deal in the neighborhood this close to the water. It's not The Four Seasons but it's nice enough and the price is right.

We have returned to this prime location for a few years. Everything is in walking distance , breathtaking views of the ocean. Staff is very professional , and accomodating from the initial reservation to check out. Love this hotel , thank you for our stay.

The best part about this hotel is it's location. On the perfect side of the beach and literally steps away. The room itself was pretty large with a small kitchenette. The bed was not comfortable at all. Very lumpy, the sheets had some stains and so did the towels, so I would argue it's kinda dirty. The location is why we stayed here & price is more affordable.

The hotel is in very good shape for the most part. I stayed here twice. My most recent stay was in a one bedroom suite. Everything was perfect except for the stains all over the sofa and I had to cover it with a blanket it looked so bad.You have to check in at the hotel a block away, Keep that in mind, if you're disabled. The parking situation sucks, once you park, don't leave! I will stay here again in the future as I love the location and property. People just need to take better care of stuff when they stay at hotels.

Can't beat the location- right on the PB boardwalk, just a couple blocks up from the pier. Prices were reasonable, and our room (#209) was really spacious and great - kitchen area, kitchenette. Living room w/ sofa bed and bedroom with 2 queens. Not fancy, but very comfortable. Note that check-in is not on sure, it's at the Pacific Shores Inn, about a block north. And there's no response to the phone on their website or on reservations. The phone # for the other location is listed on the gate. Also, the pool is two blocks north, very simple, no jacuzzi, and didn't feel heated to me - pretty cold, and no jacuzzi. But overall, a very comfortable stay. Would recommend.

OUTSTANDING - Been coming to the Diamond Head Inn for years in December , the manager Jim Silver and staff have always been very accommodating to me and family members, this is the reason I continue to stay here 2-3 times a year while in SD. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. I could stay elsewhere, but the DHI is my SDiego home away from home. I appreciate the TCE (TOTAL CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE ) I receive when visiting. Thanks again Jim and staff -MikeH

I had an amazing stay until the day they replaced my mattress and the stack of clothes in the pictures went missing. The previous mattress was absolutely horrible so I was very glad to get a new mattress! But was it worth the missing $150 in clothes??

Location is the only positive thing about this place. Room was very dirty. Dust and dirt everywhere; ceilings, window sills, counters...Mold on the bathroom ceiling, one half-roll of toilet paper, 2 sheets of Kleenex and you would think there would be paper towels or kitchen towels since they do have a small kitchen. NopeThe room even smelled like rotten meat. Well worth the extra money to stay elsewhere. (lesson learned)Upon check-in, the person working at their main office was very rude and almost condescending.

We have stayed at least a half dozen times in the last 2 years. You can't beat the location of this place. It's amazing.Parking can be tough but your at the beach. Prices are good but you are paying for a 2 star. The main building closest to the beach in good shape. Good doors, windows, lighting and landscaping. We have stayed in that building at least five or six times. We've had a couple minor incidents. No towels in the hotel room and none ever got delivered after calling several times. Huge partiers down the hall and Security had to come out several times to stop them. Security finally stopped them. This time we stayed in room 111. Very last room down the hall in the back building. Landscaping not as nice. A pile of homeless clothes out side the door the entire time we were there. Our last day there the cleaning crew actually kicked the clothes off to the side a little but never picked them up or remove them. We stayed for three nights. The doors are rotted. The crown molding looks to be warped or had been torn off a couple times. The crème de la crème was heating up leftovers in the microwave and having small cockroaches inside the microwave. Walls are paper thin. Upstairs there was elephants or dancers staying. They paced back and forth for an hour. My husband went to the office in a separate location because there is no front office at Diamond Head. He asked the lady if there was anything she could do to stop the noise. The front lady person said there was nothing she could do because she was by herself. My husband jokingly said what do I have to do leave a bad review online. The lady got very defensive and said just go ahead and do it you know you're going to. Very disheartening and very disappointed. There is no office at Diamond Head so you have to walk a block if you need ice or towels. Once again the location is fantastic. If you surf or just like walking you'll love it. As long as you don't mind cockroaches in your coffee maker and microwave, No towels And have a good earplugs you'll be fine.

Update: My car was broken into my last evening. Had just filled my car with all kinds of things to help make traveling solo easier and safer. Every last gadget stolen. Even my Kleenex. A pocket knife, mace, leatherman, prescription driving glasses, chargers, my extra key. I was just sick about it. I cried for an hour. Take notice of all the transient surfer VANS. You'll know it's them when you see them. Park far, far away from those and you should be fine. The homeless here are harmless and never ask for a penny. It's these homeless traveling POS!
