The H&R block off greyling drive is the nest one we've been to and we haven't looked anywhere else because they do such a great job that thats all we ask for somebody that helps us with our taxes and is honest. We had one agent for the a long period yet she mentioned retiring but we'll see, yet. were just thankful for the blessings we had with her and to whom may be our new agent. Thank you

I have been using H&R block for 3 years and this year was awful. I did my taxes back in February and in previous years they always turned in my earned income tax credit but they did not this year and I had just recently found out. I called them to ask why they didn't submit it and they didn't give me an answer but they scheduled me to come in so they could give me the paperwork for it and then told me I had to submit it myself. So I asked for a refund for the filing fee because the form was not submitted like it should of been. The lady in the office denied me and told me she should of actually charged me for a form I had to submit myself. So I called corporate and had to go through about ten people until I finally spoke to the district manager who was finally able to give me an answer after all of that. The answer was it would have only made a small difference on my taxes if they would have submitted it and they would of charged me a lot more to submit it than what it would of saved me on my taxes so thats why they didn't submit it. (They charge you for every single little form and W2 they have to fill out). Thats the answer I was looking for from the beginning and if I had known I wouldn't of bothered trying to submit it after all this time or would of never asked for a refund. I also don't appreciate the fact that they didn't give me the option to submit it in February and just decided for me on MY taxes. They should always give their clients the option to submit forms or not and not decide on their behalf with out disclosing it. The district manager still denied my refund and offered me a $25 coupon. That is useless to me I will not be using H&R block again and I will never recommend it to anyone.

Fun fact: no fun facts ---TLDR: inconsistent pricing and non-streamlined approach to collecting tax documents and info , subpar service, expensive. -Unfortunately my first tax preparation service outside than my own was not a pleasant experience. There is a lot of inconsistencies and much needed streamline that is needed. Instead of them doing my taxes for me, I felt like I did it myself + added one a huge headache the last few days. I want to first start off by saying that Art O. Is an amazing tax preparer and has been doing this for 19 years so if you absolutely have to do taxes at H&R Block , particularly at this location - see him. My experience started by calling to get an appt. and potentially get tax help because I was a contractor for a part time gig. I have a full time job as well. I got an appt to drop off my documents online, and asked questions on the phone of what they needed Ie mileage logs ? They said I didn't and I could drop off basic documents. Unfortunately, some of my documents were not online so I made an appt and came in ... The goal here was to take the headache away from doing my own deductions for one of roles - the contracting role and help me with deductions such as mileage , cell phone , etc. and any other times I was not seeing. I was quoted $299 , with one expense I wasn't sure of .. so I went to the Mission Valley location and they sure enough put me in a diff bucket , removing the $30 extra expense. Emily S. , the manager at this location was pleasant overall and tried to remedy the situation. She called me immediately and was willing to deduct $60 and made an appointment for me today 2/15/21 to bring in my documents and give them a try again. I got paired with another tax person (Art) and while I appreciated him and he was professional and knowledgeable. The whole experience took over two hours ... most of that was me sitting there calculating my own mileage. This is something I could have prepared before the call, and have better used my time and their time. Secondly, I only got two deductions which was mileage and cell phone. I wasn't shown a list or asked if I may have bought supplies etc. which seemed odd. I was hoping the tax pros would run down the deductions with me in detail. Finally, Emily had mixed up the discount and meant to give me $30 off not $60, then on top of that they forgot to add the $50 extra self employment expense fee. The guy handling my documents the day before saw all my documents - we discussed deductions and my jobs and I wasn't quoted this fee. Unfortunately, mistakes happen - I get it, but if I'm already having a horrible experience I would hope they could remedy the situation vs continue to charge me and wait for me to ask for it. While I was able to get down the price to original expectation, by this time I had gone through a few in-person appointments , calls, hours of frustration. At the end of it all, I gave Emily my feedback - there needs to be a more streamlined approach between receptionists to tax preparers to managers with clear fee expectations from the get go- from the phone to email and in person. And while I sensed Emily was happy to remedy as she could , I couldn't shake the fact and feeling that they wanted me out of there and didn't really care less. At this point, I felt like I paid $214 for a bigger headache rather than saving me from what I thought was a headache of doing my taxes myself. This place and H&R Block didn't leave me with a good taste in my mouth. I'mNot sure I'll be back again. I'm sure my experience may be different than others and I could have had really bad storm of bad luck and events , but I absolutely had to share. I'm hoping they get better.
