Delicious plant heavy vegan food- not just fake meat substitutes. We loved everything we had. Order all of the apps!

Some of the best vegan food I’ve ever had!! We tried the BBQ yuba, hot potatoes, egg roll burger, & the mind melt and everything was delicious. The vibe was a cool feminine grunge, service was good. Highly

The food was yummy and the atmosphere was fun! It was a little loud for a sit down dinner. The service was great and there was a wide option of food and drinks.

This was truly frustrating, I frequent Kindred and know good food takes time. It’s a Thursday night, the restaurant was half full. I showed up and requested a table and jumped on the wait list for a 5 top. I proceeded to the bar and had a cocktail which was served immediately.I pumped Kindred up hard to my boss and colleagues only to ultimately wait for an hour outside. That’s after me waiting at the bar and drinking my drink. We never made it in and ended up going to Buena Forchetta. It wouldn’t have been so frustrating if the hostess wasn’t so miserable and short with me. I am a kind person who always thanks people and know what restaurants take to run especially like Kindred.I guess what I am saying is maybe evaluate the very unpleasant person you have not welcoming people to their seats at your amazing restaurant.Dietary restrictions: Vegan only but so worth it

I'm not vegan, but we visited Kindred for brunch because one in our party was vegetarian and we figured this would be a good place to take him. We were able to get a reservation for window seating in advance, choices were standard table or window. The table at the window was a long communal one and as our brunch experience went on, they slowly filled the other seats, trying to space out each party as much as possible, which was nice. For Saturday and Sunday morning, they let us know to only order off the brunch menu. We got the wfflhaus potatoes to share, which came as roasted fingerling potatoes doused heavily in vegan gravy. The gravy was thick and chunky and tasted pretty similar to the real deal. For my entree I got the norm code, which had scrambled vegan eggs, vegan sausage patties, fingerling potatoes, and I chose rice porridge for my side instead of toast. It was my first time having vegan eggs and it definitely tasted just like tofu, the color was a curry bright yellow, so while the attempt was good, it certainly was very different from actual eggs. The "sausage" were pretty tasty as it had all the spices a breakfast sausage would have though I thought it was a bit chewier than meat sausage. It was a decent experience for me for vegan food and I would definitely recommend it as a place to take vegan and vegetarian friends.

Oh my gosh, this place is great! The service was really good, the ambiance is great, but the food is absolutely the star! We got skewers and fried mushrooms. It was a mix of lots of different mushrooms, not just white button. For entrees, we got the egg roll burger and the sourdough cheese sandwich with a burger patty on it and a side of tomato soup. I wasn't sure about the egg roll burger, but it was wonderful. There is a hint of sesame oil, which made me audibly yummm. The cheese sandwich had apples on it, and they added just a small hint of sweetness. It tasted like a really great patty melt. The tomato soup was so rich and creamy. It was hands down the best tomato soup I've had. This place is so creative with their dishes. When we make it out to San Diego again, we'll be back to Kindred for sure.

Ever since they changed their menu a couple of months ago the restaurant is not worth checking out. They used to have the BEST food items (a phenomenal bbq jackfruit sandwich and a wizard salad bowl to name a few). They recently decided to completely change their menu and almost double their prices. It really bummed me out. I tried their new menu once and will never go back. Also they charge $6 for a side of avocado. It’s ridiculous. (Kindred, please bring back your old menu! I’d come back in a heartbeat!)

The food is outstanding! The music was too loud and not to my taste. It was difficult to have a conversation with our friends which defeat the purpose of going out with friends. The cocktails were unique and delicious. The place looks awesome. I’m torn because I love everything but the music but because of it I’m not sure I’ll go back.Dietary restrictions: Plant-based

It was ok. We got there prior to opening. Seemed empty but we were put on waitlist as we were told everything was reserved.. they were courteous and offered place to sit. They may be a bit low on wait staff. It seemed like it is targeted towards younger group. No decaf. For how expensive it was, I did not think the food was that great. The younger waitstaff were polite but everything came off as a no, they need to be more seasoned on how to respond if they can't do something versus stating it blatantly. That is my feedback if it could be taken constructively. Perhaps that service may work for younger crowd but was not the best for our group. Thanks

I've had this place on my foodie list for awhile and as a sober vegetarian I was extra excited for the mocktail and vegan menu, both of which turned out to be sparse. unfortunately upon walking in, we were greeted by one of the rudest most unfriendly hostess/waitress's we've encountered which immediately gave the place bad vibes it was early evening, they had just opened on a weekday and we were informed that every table had a reservation (which every table except one remained unoccupied the entire hour we were there. Not a good look) I even tried making jokes to lighten the mood with her to no avail. the silver lining was being resigned to the bar meant we didn't have to deal with said waitress which was a blessing. Google maps described it as eclectic and colorful of which neither were accurate. The rainbow bright wallpaper was the highlight. The death metal was an interesting spin but so loud I couldn't hear my husband sitting right next to me at the bar. The very personable bartender was the bright spot here. The food and mocktails were good. Am I glad I marked it off the list? Yes. Would I ever come again? No.

Food at Kindred is delicious, and the ambiance is amazing. Only reason for me rating it 4 stars and not 5 is because I didn't like the fact that they were already out of certain items on the menu and they weren't willing to budge for other choices. Multiple responses were either "sorry we are out" & "sorry we can't do that". Almost disappointing when you are excited to try a new place. The place doesn't offer WiFi either. I personally will not go back.

Vegans and Non-Vegans! ATTENTION! This place is incredible. From the most metal AF vibe to the food to the music to the staff. It's one of those themed restaurants that is WORTH the hype. We all got different food to share & not one thing was overhyped. If you come here you can expect a bit of a wait. But it's worth it. Make sure you check out the bathrooms cause not only are they nice and clean they're hilarious. Just trust me. Brunch here was one of the major highlights of my visit to San Diego and I would definitely come back here again.
