My 40th birthday bash at The Pearl Hotel in San Diego for 28 of my closest friends and family was an absolute blast. I can't stop raving about the unmatched hospitality from the staff, especially the General Manager, Anthony. He made sure every detail was perfect and our comfort was a top priority. The hotel's chic retro vibes set the stage perfectly for our celebration. It was so easy to accommodate all our guests, and everything we needed was right at our fingertips. The restaurant was a standout—hands down, the best food! Happy hour from 4-6 was a highlight, and I can't recommend the Calamari and coconut shrimp enough. The short rib and burger were also incredible. And Roman, the bar manager, was a superstar, ensuring our drinks never ran dry. Also shout out to Carla, part of the night staff, was an absolute delight. Her attentiveness added that extra touch to an already incredible stay.I have to give a huge shoutout to the entire staff. From the spacious and modern rooms (I stayed in the amazing Pearl Suite everything was top-notch. The patio with two chairs facing the pool was the cherry on top of an already fantastic experience. The hotel's location was a dream—easy walks to charming coffee shops, delicious Mexican taco stands, and the marina. Plus, being just a five-minute drive from the airport made it super convenient, eliminating the need for a rental car. Getting to downtown and Little Italy via a short Uber ride was a breeze, and having Trader Joe's and other stores nearby made life even easier.I can't wait to go back. Thank you, Pearl Hotel, for making my 40th birthday celebration one for the books!Rooms: Very modern and minimalist. Bed was amazing.Walkability: Walk to the nearby restaurants, coffee shops & marina.Food & drinks: The food was exceptional.

I have had a long relationship with the Pearl Hotel.... never stayed there, but have enjoyed meals there for many years. Now, the dining area is called Charles and Dinorah, named after the first owners, but it has had a few different names over the years. Over 10 years ago I started to attend their Groove Brunch. At the time, they would have DJs spinning every Sunday morning/afternoon, open their pool to restaurant guests, and we would lay around sipping mimosas and cocktails after brunch. I had at least two birthday gatherings there, one in a private outdoor dining area, and one at the "cabana", a large table in the pool area. I love the small boutique hotel retro vibes. It has a very special feeling. I have been for many happy hours, dinners, and a couple "dive in movies" where they show a film on Wednesday evenings over the pool. Most recently I went on a Tuesday. My friend took me out for a belated birthday dinner. Tuesdays they have happy hour all night. I was also happy to learn that the outdoor area is dog friendly, so I could bring my spaniel with me. I really enjoy the atmosphere and sat comfortably while waiting for my friend. Once she arrived, we started to catch up, but also unfortunately, didn't get a server to come over for at least 20 minutes, and not until after we flagged someone down. Once that happened, they realized that they had overlooked our table, and then the service was spot on.We shared the baba ganoush, and each ordered a couple of cocktails. I really enjoyed the smokey flavor of the baba ganoush. Since it was Happy Hour all night, I was hoping to take advantage of the discounted cocktails, but was disappointed to see that the ones I wanted were not discounted. I decided to order the ones I wanted anyway. I do wish the happy hour were a bit more of a value. My favorite cocktail of the evening was called Flowers in the Attic, which had a presentation just as pleasant as the flavor. For our entrees I chose Mary's Half Chicken and my friend chose the Kahlbi Short Rib. She enjoyed her dinner, and I have to say my chicken was so tender and flavorful. I absolutely recommend it. It was also a large portion, so I was able to enjoy it for lunch as well the next day.Anyway, all in all, I very much recommend The Pearl for atmosphere and great food and cocktails.

Excellent stay. Really blown away. This is a 5-star hotel. Rooms were impeccable and very tastefully designed and decorated. Bed was nice and soft, one of the best sleeps I’ve ever had. Service was attentive and accommodating. All very civilized clientele. Restaurant is amazing. I could only stay one night, but I am definitely coming back

We stayed at The Pearl to celebrate our birthdays (they're a day apart) and had the absolute best time. The staff was great, bed was comfortable, the drinks at the bar were amazing and dinner by the pool with the bistro lights was so cozy. We loved having a cute little patio to have coffee on in the morning too. Such a fun boutique hotel vibe. Will definitely be sending my family to stay here when they come to town!

Service was good, but I would not stay here again. The room smelled of mildew and mold was on the inside of the curtain. I didn’t put on the AC unit that also had a smell. So I slept with the windows open which is not ideal for a solo female traveller on the main level of the building. Pool was dirty. I’m not too picky but it was obvious the pool was coated in a layer of hair. No one swam in it the duration of my stay. I did not enjoy my stay here and would not recommend. Was also quite loud.Rooms: Clean but mildew and mold smell. Mold on curtain. Pool was unusable.

Great little 1960s hotel with an old-school motel feel, kidney-shaped pool, wonderfully helpful staff and great little bar and restaurant that far exceeded expectations. This neatly renovated gem is a must see if you are in the mood for a throw-back experience with updated, quite pleasing rooms. The front desk is, literally, a small desk in the petite entry. There is a bartender who makes you feel like you've known him forever and a cute little "dive-in" movie nightly -- nostalgic movies and the BEST FOOD I've had at any hotel restaurant. EVER!!

This is a delightful, local bar lounge that is busy most nights with regulars and tourists alike! The wait staff is friendly and attentive and the pool is adjacent to the bar! They have a bar menu that changes with seasonal items and are delicious! Prices are reasonable and don't miss happy hour. Street parking is plentiful. See you there!

This is a cute boutique hotel. The rooms were nice but our room smelled very mildewy and we couldn't get the tv to work with the wifi . That was a bummer because I am a wedding planner and I use the TV to help me wind down after a 14 hour day . The gentleman at the front desk was amazing . He bent over backwards to help us with our early arrival.Food & drinks: Their bartender was amazing greeted us with a smile and made some darn good cocktails

Loved out stay at the Pearl hotel. Such a perfect little redone spot! Because it’s a motel it seems like it can be hard to get some help at times, but I am sure they are working on getting all of that together.
