Probably the most interesting cigar shop I've even been to with simultaneously the most interesting pipe collection I've ever seen. Some are thousands of years old and works of art. Very hard-to-find cigars here. Some are expensive, others are more affordable.

The oldest and the first local tobacco shop, it has preserved the original décor and ambiance from the past. The shopkeeper is dressed in 18th-century gentleman attire, and many of the display cases in the store actually function as small museums. They contain historical items related to the history of tobacco and the local area. The shopkeeper is very welcoming and greets guests in various languages from different countries. I particularly enjoyed this place; its rich historical sense is imbued with a cultural atmosphere.

This place truly is one of it's kind, it feels like you're in a museum or a time capsule. The two gentleman working there are helpful and welcoming. Also nice place to set back, relax and smoke. If you like cigars or tobacco, I would definitely recommend paying this little shop a visit.

The knowledge and helpfulness of the staff is above average. Went with friends who got their first pipe and the gentleman working took plenty of time to explain the dose and don't of proper pipe usage. No push to up sell anything and a military discount on some items as well! Overall cigar and pipe tobacco selection is great.

Great historic cigar shop and they are the first tobacconist in San Diego! The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and they dress in time period correct clothing. If you have a chance stop on by, even if you don't smoke cigars!

If you are into history, cigars or needing a cigar lounge then this place is for you. It is located in Old Town San Diego towards the turn-about... You walk in and there are several glass cases of old school smokes from back in the day... you notice that the employees are dressed in old style attire and you feel like you are transformed to another time period. Each time we've been here, have been met with friendly, honest opinions and good suggestions. They do offer some deals on certain cigars if you buy more than one. To the left they have a closed off section with higher end cigars and a smoking lounge where you can purchase and enjoy your smoke. San Diego County passed a law that infused and flavored tobacco products are banned, however these guys were very helpful in finding cigars that where not flavored but based on how they were made give off different aromas and what would pair well with a beer. Very knowledge (as I tried doing a bit of a Google search to enhance my knowledge) and woukd highly recommend. Even if you have no intention of making a purchase, walk through the store a lot of history here.

Best prices in town and they are very friendly one day I came in and I lost 2 dollars somehow and the skinny guy who works there took 2 dollars out of his pocket and covered me. How awesome is that.

R&L is a real gem. I recently picked up an inexpensive and handsom pipe from them and three 2 oz. packs of Bob's, Gramps, and English Burley. They all smoke great. I wouldn't go anywhere else in San Diego.
