Absolutely incredible gym and atmosphere. The equipment is so cool and old school, loved everything about this gym. One thing in particular I really appreciated was the straight bar attachment for the Lat pull-down machine. It’s a shame that very few gyms have this and I was so happy that this gym did! You can really come and train hard here. The owner was very kind and welcoming, he even gave me a free shirt for visiting. Left a lasting impression on me that I’ll always remember. Thank you for the awesome experience!

I use to go to this gym for years. Then one day the owner went to prison for steroids. During that time the gym became ran down and a large percentage of the equipment was broken . I continuedto stay at this gym with broken equipment for a long while. When the owner got out of prison I asked him if he would consider a discount renewal cost for the inconveniences of having broken equipment for so long. He was very rude and a verbal disagreement erupted. I have zero respect for a place that had zero respect for my patronage and loyality

Love this place. Super old school and everyone is very friendly. All the equipment you could ever want and you never have to wait to use something.

One of the best gyms in SD, you can definitely feel the nostalgic atmosphere as soon as you step in. For sure gives you that motivation for a great work out. Definitely recommend!

a gem of a gym has my heart. no frills gym, free weights and machines that are well kept despite their age. the members at this gym are so nice, as well as staff/the trainers here. most gyms feel distracting to an extent, but i can work out here with zero headphones and feel super focused and undisturbed. even on it's seemingly busier days people don't hog equipment, and are willing to work in with you. the girl's restroom was an addition to the space as it was all a men's locker room. so the gal's bathroom only has one toilet. there are two sinks outside the toilet room if you want to wash your hands/face post workout. there are also two showers, and a full sized mirror arranged in the corner so you can take those progress selfies! going to assume the men's locker has more lockers/space! they take card and cash for membership payments, day passes, beverages/snacks, and merchandise. paying with cash or through venmo will be more wallet friendly payment options as you don't have to go through with card processing fees. located above the now laundromat, used to be a butcher shop back in the day. (second floor. so control your deadlifts, folks! respect the gym and the neighbors down stairs.) located in a nook of Northpark where they have that little playground, a block or two away from Holsem Coffee/NP Tattoo. Loynie, the current owner is doing great keeping Stern's alive! check this place out ya'll! Look for the vintage looking blue Stern's sign! ps: goodluck going down those stairs on your lower body days! instagram: @sternsgym website:

I trained at Stern's gym in 1969. One day I recall him leaving for some outing, returning back to his office and coming out to announce he had calculated how many times he had climbed those stairs. Good memories for me. The gym was old school and for serious trainers. It had the chrome edged weights you see Vlasov lifting in the Olympics.

Guest review 12.28.22 10$ day pass How is visiting this iconic gym cheaper than going to the movies? It is really hard to accurately give a review of this gym, so I'll keep it short. This gym reminds me of Frenchie's gym. That's a good thing. FYI to future drop ins. Has a shower and locker room.

The best gym in North Park, hands down. No question. Nice neighborhood gym with origins from 1946 as a world renowned body builder gym! Still lots of impressive body builders work out at Stern's , but it brings in a whole cross section of people from our community. Loynie, the proprietor, is also my personal trainer and he is AWESOME!

Just walking in to this place makes you feel stronger. What you see here is history, focus, dedication, hard work and respect. What you don't see is high school kids playing on equipment, intimidation, hunk alarms, or salesmen. Come as you are. Definitely a no judgment gym. Everyone is super friendly including the dude deadlifting a half ton. Your shoes don't have to match your head band. You don't need to look like you are sponsored by Rogue. People even bring their dogs. The atmosphere makes you really enjoy being present. The corporate gyms I belonged to was not fun...more of a chore. My son and I drive 12 miles to get there from home-and it is worth every gallon of gas spent. If your looking for a change from that pizza fitness establishment, Sterns is the place to be. It really does feel like home.
