Hi-Rite is a cute little market with specialty items, but it’s very overstaffed and overpriced. The isles are hard to navigate when half of the occupants are workers, and $13 for a dozen eggs that aren’t even free range is diabolical, even with the bird flu. I come here last resort.

Overpriced bread. Like ~$8 for Acme bread baguette (get it at nearly half the price at Faletti, 3 blocks away)
Same comment for checkout cashiers as the previous review.
Their sandwiches are quite good for the taste and the team.

Great quality food but you will definitely pay for it. Good selections, too. Carrot cake was great!

Fav grocery store, produce is always high quality, there's fun pre-made food options, its beautiful to shop at and I always find something interesting and new. Yes it can get tight and hectic inside but that's okay and to be expected for a small local neighborhood grocery store. Best part is the quesadilla. Seriously best quesadilla i've ever had. Places like Bi-Rite are the reasons I wanted to move to SF. We are so spoiled here with amazing grocery stores and produce. Keep doing what you're doing Bi-Rite :)

The vegan sandwhich options are really weak.
Update response: The suggestion is right here Bi-Rite - research more and better vegan sandwiches!!!

The food quality & products here are top notch. But the customer service is lacking, especially at the cashier checkout. Butcher/sandwich team/counter is plenty friendly. I’ve been shopping here for years out of convenience.
The cashier staff is unfortunately almost seemingly angry that you’re there. They seem pissed off all the time. That you’ve bothered them by even checking out.
I’m happy to pay the high prices for the goods - but the check out staff has this arrogance that rubs people the wrong way. The morning staff is the nicest. I’ve found myself going to Falleti more often because of the cashiers.
It’s “almost” a great place to shop locally. But don’t expect for the checkout counter to make you feel welcome or anything positive. 3/5 makes sense to me.

“The Davidson” sandwich is inspired by the Vietnamese tofu bahn mi sandwich and should be made known and fixed so that we can correct this cultural appropriation.

I asked if the Davidson sandwich is basically a bahn-mi and was told “yes” by naming it something different bi-rite is being culturally insensitive, avoiding honoring the roots of a cuisine that is not theirs and basically partaking in cultural appropriation. Do better bi-rite

We called in as tourists passing by, to grab something to eat in the park. We got a couple of sandwiches made up, which aren't the cheapest, but they were so good. They had to be eaten in two sittings, as they were huge. We also grabbed some apples and drinks.

I went to get something ready for lunch and found a wide choice of sandwiches and ready meals. Both the sandwich and the spelled salad I got were excellent.
Splendid assortment of fruit and vegetables, including organic ones.
Prices are high but justified by the quality of the products.
