We used California Movers three times while we lived in the Bay Area, and if this was just a review of the first two it would have been five stars. Unfortunately, the final move (which was just asking for their help packing and loading a POD for a cross-country move) was sloppy and careless, despite costing almost $700 including tip.
- Upon opening the pod, we found that warnings on our boxes to not stack things on top of certain ones had been ignored and those boxes were in fact at the bottom of the stack. These boxes had artwork and other fragile items in it. We purposefully wrote these instructions and told the lead guy about it, but he must have never shared it with the other guy loading the pod.
- Our kitchen knives were haphazardly jammed into a metal container with other metal utensils.
- The front wheel on our Peloton is bent and broken. This likely happened when it was being wheeled off the curb into the pod as there's no other way that much force could have been applied to it.
If I used them again, I would not let them pack anything and I would also supervise how they loaded things.

There were 2 guys. Great job! Efficient, Timely. & Patient. Would request them again! With their expertise they were able to maximize the space. I was impressed.

I am happily writing this review. California Movers did a fantastic job of moving me from Southern California to Northern California.
They were prompt, courteous and professional. The 2 gentlemen handling my move were very thoughtful and thorough. I had not finished packing everything and they carefully packed and wrapped my furniture. They were quick , efficient and hard working.
My furniture was delivered on time and quickly unloaded.
Thank you so much for taking the stress out of the move.

I cannot recommend California Movers enough! From the moment I booked them to the final item being unloaded, they were professional, efficient, and incredibly careful with all my belongings. The team arrived right on time, worked quickly without cutting corners, and handled everything with care — including fragile and bulky items.
What really stood out was their positive attitude and excellent communication. They made what is usually a stressful experience feel smooth and even enjoyable. Every member of the crew was courteous, respectful, and clearly took pride in their work.

Absolutely amazing quality work done by our movers. 3 guys came in a timely manner and were able to load up our house in an hour. They were able to load up in Long Beach and drive all our items in one load to Santa Maria. They made unloading look like a breeze and moved all our items up three flights of stairs and helped unpacked. Can’t recommend these people enough.

A company that would lie to you straight up is not to be trusted. They offer a 10% discount that they do not honor. You call, they say it is included. Then, if you ask what the original rate is they don't even have the math straight. So they are not even good al lying. There are plenty of good companies in the area go with a honorable one.

Of the 30+ moves I’ve experienced, this was the most frustrating and uncomfortable. Please consider carefully if you’re thinking of booking a full service local move.
Immediately at arrival, the movers complained of how much packing had to be done repeatedly saying “it was a lot for just them,” and complaining that we were on the second floor despite confirming ahead of time the list of furniture, apartment size (1bed/1bath), and the request for full service- nothing is packed- $190/hr rate. My partner and I also organized books, emptied furniture, removed art, cleared out clothes etc ahead of time hoping it would save the movers some time and energy.
My partner and I did 80% of the actual packing, making boxes, throwing in anything we could get our hands on, with the exception of wrapping furniture, and even then the movers were so disorganized our 1bed/1bath contents didn’t fit in the 16 ft truck. We packed up our SUV and we had to leave our lamps, plants, and most of our kitchen contents behind. When we moved to SF from NY we hand packed all our (then larger) apt contents into a 16 ft pod and everything fit.
They were talking on the phone constantly during the move. They took an hour break but only deducted 30 minutes from the rate (and yes also charged double time for driving which yes, okay), and they took smoke breaks frequently while we packed the contents of the apartment alone.
We tipped cash. Without seeing the total of the tip, the lead mover argued with it being too low, and asked us to Venmo or Zelle him if we did not want to put it on the credit card.
I found this astoundingly unprofessional especially since my partner and I effectively packed the majority of our 1 bed/1 bath contents, they damaged our dining table, and lost our bed frame screws. We paid for 9.5 hours, a total imbalance of labor. If my partner and I didn’t haul ass they would probably still be moving us out two days later…
We were so uncomfortable with this experience that by the time we made it to the move destination, we forfeited any additional organization of furniture hoping to expedite the close of the job.
Overall, I felt squeezed for every dollar and did not think these two were professionals. Complaining that there was too much to move even though they were being paid by the hour was odd and precarious, particularly because that is the literal job for hire. Moving as slow as possible during the packing was frustrating and pushed my limits when at close they argued for a higher tip.
