Stumbled upon this cute bookstore that sell both used and new books. I appreciate the large collection of used books. The environment is warm and friendly. Would love to come back again to check it out again in depth.

Been here a couple of times, on visits to the Bay Area, and will now make it a point to add to my itinerary every time. Dog Eared Books is maybe my current favorite bookstore, even though I like in New York City. Even though it's not the largest, it has everything I need and more. While on a recent trip, I went to a couple of other larger indie bookstores in the area and was unable to pick up the book I wanted. Dog Eared saved me as I really really wanted to get something specific for the long flight back. In addition to the great selection, the staff is incredibly friendly. They're attentive and well informed. Once in a while, I'll be somewhere where I feel bad asking questions because I don't want to be a bother. I never feel like that here. My only quibble is that I couldn't find them on bookshop.org. When I'm purchasing books from bookshop, I'd love for them to be an affiliate so a portion of my purchase can go to support them. PS: they've got a nice small selection of rare books as well.

One of my all time favorites. A bookstore that offers selection in one of the most urban of neighborhoods. Service is good, but come in with some idea of what you're looking for. These people are busy!!

Should be called dog eared crooks. Horrible price, gouging overpriced books the common theme lately with use bookstores is inflation of cost on these books and the price gouging there's definitely a correlation between that and a hard winter street cool hardware and places that have ruined things for the customers, price gouging, and the excuse, claiming inflation when it's just agreed of the actual seller. This bookstore is guilty of the same thing as the klutz guy at the counter. He was incredibly rude and insinuated some things that were very strange. I will never ever return after being a customer there for 25 years.absolutely pathetic customer service absolutely pathetic prices and absolutely pathetic attitude. If I don't feel welcome somewhere, I never go back. That's just the bottom line. Don't support to horrible institution.

What a great little bookstore! It was so fun to get to explore here with a bunch of writer friends. I was able to walk to here from 16th St Mission Bart station, and it was a nice walk on a sunny day to explore San Francisco.

What a treasure! Valencia Street is a place full of alluring, entertaining stores full of Knick knacks, so Dog Eared Books is like the icing on the top. I was immediately drawn in by the postcards, stickers, stationery, and pins upfront. Note that they have pretty much every genre you're looking for, with quality selections for each (in particular, they have all the popular, bestselling books). I also liked how organized the place was, and the store workers were super friendly.

Good selection of books, great prices. I got a hardcover for 15$. my only problem was when the cashier lady crossed her arms and scowled at me when the transaction was done. Like literally looked at me like she was about to punch me in the face. Not sure what that was about lol

I'm in the process of selling off the excess books cluttering my place and have enjoyed the professional banter and ease of process with the staff at Dog Eared. In addition to being a great bookstore for purchasing its a great boo for selling as well. love them.

I loved this place! They have many interesting books about many topics and some queer literature hidden gems ? ✨️ They even have a Japanese manga and comic section with some books for those who are into BDSM and more dark topics like "The Sandman."

Selling books here is so meh. The don't want my hardbacks, they don't care for my softcovers. They won't take the bestseller I bought two months ago at Browser. They aren't interested in the Anne Lamott I just picked up and read at Book Passage. You should have seen the buyer's eyebrows when I brought in an old Stephen King. (Not much of a poker player, that one.)Niche cookbooks and a mint condition language learning guide were handed back to me. I brought in a vintage first edition and the girl tells me it has a crack in the spine. Given that the book was older than me (which is saying something), and in otherwise perfectly readable good condition, I found her assessment to be petty AF. Especially given we were standing inside of 'Dog Eared' Books; the very name alluding to book damage. I don't doodle in the margins, I don't highlight, and I don't dog-ear my pages. I treat my books with respect. And every time I have stopped by here, I have had my books rejected for one reason or another. Also every time, I walk my small stack of reading material over to Fabulosa in the Castro, where they will invariably buy the majority of my offerings. The rest I use to stock up the LFLs or save for eBay. I'm on a library kick now and am happy to report that I won't need to hoof it down to this place any time soon. Woof.

Excellent 'old-fashioned' bookstore with a wide selection and well-sorted books. New and used items available - hardcovers, graphic-novels, all there. Staff was friendly and competent. If you like good bookstores, this is the place!
