Oh man the egg tarts here truly are the best which is why whenever the bakery is open, there's a line out the door. Literally a line out the door since you can't go inside. It's definitely a unique little shop so know what to expect. What to expect? A long line, pay cash and the owner cracks the door open and gives you your delicious egg tarts and takes your cash!

Bomb. Slightly sweet and very eggy custard.. Crispy and flakey outside. I prefer them cold but they're nice and hot as soon as the cute little old lady gives them to you.

The best lotus moon cakes I've ever had. I make sure and stop in every time I'm in San Francisco. The owners are very friendly. They do not let anyone inside the store anymore though, all shopping has to be done on the sidewalk.

GG Bakery needs no intro. This hole-in-the-wall is famous for their fluffy, crusty egg tarts. These are by far the best egg tarts I've had in my life (and I've had a lot)! The minus one star is for the unpredictable hours of operation and the steep price of $3.75 for one tart! When did egg tarts get so expensive? Expect to wait in a long line, but what you get in the end is well worth the wait!

After years of attempts, finally caught them not on vacation or when the line was wildin. Hella good.

Egg custard tarts to die for! In fact, I think they are even worth queuing 15 mins for, and spending $4

One of the most interesting egg custard experiences I've had! The store is open besides the the boarded up windows and gates. You have to approach the door and there is a Asian lady saying CUSTARDS?... You hand over the $3.75 and for me I got some of the best egg custards in America, including NY! Def come here!

Tasty egg tarts but not $3.75 tasty. Totally overpriced.

Don't usually like custard tarts but this one is different! The crust is flaky like French pastries and the custard is soft and light!

Was sketchy location LOL thought it was closed at first until I walked by the door and saw an older Chinese lady peering out with a tray of custards by her. She peeked her head out cautiously and I asked for 3. She handled business, got my custards and they were delicious. So glad I went there at the end of the day because the line the next morning was crazy!

Heard about this place through a coworker and was in Chinatown last Saturday and decided to check it out. I knew I was in the right place when I saw the extremely long line of people eagerly waiting for their egg tarts. Despite the 35-minute wait, it was absolutely worth it! The Custard tarts were hot and fresh out of the oven so I highly recommend eating them straight away. The crust was incredibly flaky, and the custard was creamy with just the right amount of sweetness. I think it is safe to say that these are probably the best egg tarts I've ever had! I will definitely be returning.

Probably the best egg tarts I've ever had. My boyfriend and I came here on a Sunday afternoon, and there were ~10-15 parties ahead of us. We ended up waiting for an hour or so to get our egg tarts ($3.75 each or $45 for a dozen). It was a little funny to see the puzzled looks of passersby since it did seem like there was a line of people waiting in front of a closed bakery. Although the bakery looked closed, it was opened. There was a worker inside who would open the door to take orders, collect money, and bring out the order. The egg tarts were freshly baked so they were warm and heavenly. The crust was flaky, soft, and not super thick. The crust to egg custard ratio was perfect. The egg custard was moist, had the perfect amount of sweetness, and basically melted in my mouth. I got a dozen to share with my family, and they loved them. If you love egg tarts and have never been here, I highly recommend Golden Gate Bakery!

Legendary Egg Tart Destination! A 40-year-old Chinatown institution, the bakery is also the place for other Chinese baked specialties, including egg custard tarts, coconut macaroons, sweet rice cakes and vanilla cream buns. Cash only! Service is quick and all done from the street. No entry into the bakery.
