I do not recommend buying or even selling books in this store, because the store owner buys stolen books from street vendors... what a shame

This place is fantastic! The atmosphere is so welcoming, and everyone is incredibly friendly. Plus, they have a great selection, especially when it comes to used books--my favorite!

Fantastic place to look at books. Wide selection of different books, games, and little trinkets throughout the store made it so nice to travel and browse through. They really have a book for anyone and their selection is super organized. I'd come back here anytime to support the friendly staff.

The last of the great bookstores in San Francisco. This is my go to place to discover books of all kinds. Green Apple has vinyl records and magazines. A good place to get inspiration.

Green Apple Books is a Richmond District institution. Whenever I'm in the neighborhood, I stop by. It has that old bookstore smell. It is just an old school bookshop with a lot of selection. I love seeing the discounted books. The service is fine, not very warm, but good. I usually get all my questions answered. Keep print alive.

I consistently have had such awful customer service from both locations that I felt that a review was in order. One star for a San Francisco institution, another for the location (lovely neighborhood gems to wander in/eat at after your book browse), and one star for the fact that it's a bookstore. It sucks that something so great for this city has unpleasant employees (probably from the top down?) that every visit of mine has turned me off. I will not be visiting again but thankfully this city has plenty of indie bookstores to support! TLDR: worth a gander solely for the books/sf charm but be weary of unpleasant employees/awful customer service. Also, the experience of selling books here will make you lose faith in humanity, go somewhere else.

What a cool bookstore. I advise not to bring cash and only have a prepaid credit card with like $40 on it. This place is temptation city. Used and new. Oh my dog, I guess I have to buy both. This is the kind of bookstore that real big cities have, not the massive small town where I live.

Never ending book store! The stairs kept going and going. If you are a book lover I highly advise to go. A bookstore for of history and amazing selection of books. The staff was very friendly and nice.

Everything you love about a bookstore. The smell of aisles & aisles of old and new books. Beautiful writing supplies. Even the clerk chatting it up with a local. Very helpful staff. Great selection. Keep local bookstores alive!!

For a used/new bookstore, the prices are pretty unbeatable!Cozily cramped mix of new & used titles in a dreamy, shambling atmosphere. Nooks & crannies abound and the hand-written section markers are a nice touch; it feels like a magical garage sale or a bibliophile’s attic that’s been opened to the public. I love bookshops like this because every find feels like a discovery. Go lose a couple of hours. Though be forewarned: during my browse session two different people came in looking for a restroom and were politely notified that there isn’t one. Come with an empty bladder!

I love a bookstore where you can go in with something in mind, but also find other goodies along the way. It’s like a scavenger hunt! Has unique Knick knacks aside from books, like cute and profane mugs :)

A San Francisco institution! My friends and I have been coming to Green Apple since we were teens. They have an awesome selection of used fiction and non-fiction, used cookbooks, fun knickknacks, California memorabilia, and all the other goodies you could want while hanging out at a bookstore. Knowledgeable service from people who love books. All in all, awesome place to be!

I grew up in the Richmond and remember mom turning me and my brother lose to explore on our own. This place is big, casual, comfy, and incredibly well- stocked. In addition to (seemingly) miles of books, they also have a nice selection of merchandise, stationary, gifts, novelty items, etc. Staff are always cheerful and helpful. Only possible downside is it's not wheelchair friendly.

My favorite bookstore in Bay Area, hands down. This is a book lover's dream. Stacks and shelves of curated books everywhere. Books I can't find anyplace else, I might find here. Green Apple Books staff are knowledgeable and approachable. They carry a wide variety of used and remainder books, also some new books. Huge selection of fiction and nonfiction. I picked up a remainder Cormac McCarthy and a Charles Dickens on this visit. You can always find something good to read here.
