I went to church before taxes and I think that’s the reason I got refund ; but I must credit Charu Sharma here for being a consummate professional. In the waiting area, lots of theater : a Japanese woman, suited in nice blue pants suits , was being politely upbraided by her husband ; and another woman had a large religious tattoo on her wide open chest . She carried Christ in her heart.

I had a very disappointing experience at the H&R Block office on Van Ness Ave in San Francisco. The tax preparer I met with, Mariam Safapay, was extremely unprofessional and unkind. I came in to file a simple return, even though I didn’t have official income in 2024. I tried my best to explain my situation, and even let her speak with a friend on the phone to help clarify, because my English isn’t strong.
She was not patient, didn’t explain anything clearly, and made me feel uncomfortable and pressured. In the end, she told me I had to pay $150 just for sitting with her, even though no tax return was filed and no service was completed. She never warned me about any fees beforehand.
I felt disrespected and taken advantage of, and I wouldn’t recommend dealing with this location—especially if English is not your first language. It was a stressful and unfair experience. Please be careful and ask clearly about all fees before starting anything.

Miriam Safapay was very rude and disrespectful over the phone. She has now told me on the final day of the deadline “what I should have done months ago” and that she is unable to help me all while telling me I have an easy case. Would not recommend this location.

I am incredibly disappointed with the service I received at this
H and R block location. On 4/1 I had an appointment scheduled to meet in office with Mariam Safapay she was 15 minutes late and was very distressed and rubbing her eyes. Then complained about how much work she has to do and how the company expects them too work until 10 pm at night. She never seemed available to help me with my appointment.
She was rude and very lazy didn't have the computer on to start our visit . I literally walked out of the appointment she was unprofessional.

Absolute incompetence- I booked an appointment with Colleen Romano, and ahead of the appointment she called me interrogating me and questioning why I wouldn’t want to do my taxes online on top of being very judgmental of me wanting face to face interaction to talk to someone about my taxes.
She just plain and simple did not want to help me AND cancelled my appointment without my permission…. I can’t believe this individual has ‘over 20 years experience’ because she lacks any and empathy.

Kelly and Colleen Romano were extremely rude to me and refused to file my tax return for which I had paid $400 at their Sansome st. Office. Carol Ho (from Sansome office), who took 6 months to prepare my tax return, is no longer with the company. Office on Sansome is permanently closed. Office on Van Ness refuses to file my tax return for 2022 of which I have a copy. It feels like a racial discrimination : ( I hope that H&R Block cares about immigrants.

I never write reviews and hate my name attached to public things on the internet, but avoid this place if possible. I initially had no issues the first couple of years I filed but this past year there was a strange error that I noticed, which the preparer did fix, however I never signed off on the revised forms because I ultimately intended to file elsewhere. I had then received emails from the preparer telling me I need to approve the forms or they would not be filed… Then an hour later the same day I got an email that the IRS accepted my return. Weird. I spoke with the manager Lisa Chan, who told me that there was apparently a “glitch” in the system that actually approved my taxes and sent them over to the IRS even though I did not actually approve them.
Lisa initially acted nice and like she was wanting to help and told me that she would send the issue over to her district manager. I have not had any follow-up since, even though I have tried to get in touch with her through email and call. I was also told I’d get a refund on what I paid for the preparation since I intended to never file with them in first place, which obviously has not happened. She essentially ghosted.

The absolute worst. They botched my business taxes and refuse to fix them. I made 3 phone appointments where they didn’t call me, and when I finally did get in touch with Shuping Hou, she also ghosted me. The front desk staff is incredibly rude and unhelpful. Unfortunately, I need to keep dealing with them to try and get my business taxes finalized correctly, however, if you haven’t started yet, run as fast as you can!

Unprofessional, overpriced, and undependable. My appointment time and day was changed twice with no notice or communication, and their website video platform did not work so I was not able to see anything while my tax pro was filing my taxes. Expect to pay $400+ for a 20 minute video appointment where you can't see any information on your screen, and to have the appointment happen whenever they want it to happen and not the time you originally schedule it for.

This H&R Block location is very rude and unhelpful. I called and they quoted me a price over the phone. I then went in and they took 30+ min to see me after my appointment time. I finally was able to go in and saw shuping hou she claimed that price wouldn’t work and the service I wanted wasn’t available in an extremely rude way. I would not recommend her or this location. Wasted a ton of my time and encountered only rude service

Very disappointed client. Last year I basically walked in and did my taxes and I was pretty satisfied with it. But this year they canceled my appointment one day before it was scheduled and it was final week of tax season. They really don't care about your taxes and penalties obviously.
