The Japan Center, East and West Malls, is a cultural hub that has been in operation since 1968. It features over 35 businesses showcasing a wide variety of Japanese goods, from traditional foods to unique items. While the center was undergoing renovations during some visits, the open areas and overall atmosphere were generally described as pleasant and authentic. The malls offer a diverse selection of shops, from anime stores to jewelry and stationery boutiques, as well as a plethora of dining options. Visitors highly recommend exploring the Japan Center, with its charming pagoda and lively monthly pop-up events, for an immersive Japanese cultural experience.
It’s a fun and unique SF experience. It’s the closest thing to shopping in Japan without actually going to Japan for shop! There are so many interesting finds and secret surprises at many of the stores. Restaurants are good too.
