We've been going here for many years. After the loss of our son, we wanted to enjoy a night in the city. Le Colonial is not the same quality or experience. The portion were large and family style. The brussels sprouts were drenched in a sauce that was too sweet. But the most shocking part was that they mistakenly served me a regular Heineken beer when I asked for non-alcoholic. I took a sip and immediately realized it was wrong. I am 5 years sober. They apologized to avoid a scene. The lack of care and detail was embarrassing. A gesture to comp the nonalcoholic beer I finally received would have shown a bit of respect. I am so sad to say we will not be going back.

Great food in an incredible building. You have to get the eggplant!!! So good! I definitely miss the live music; looking forward to the day when music and dancing come back upstairs ♥️

I have eaten here many times over the past 20yrs (also when it was Trader Vics!) I have to say I was very disappointed this time. We arrived on time & our guests were already seated. The waiter brought their drinks to the table, chatted a few words to us & then disappeared. Mind you there were only 2 other tables seated at the time. After about 15min, more tables were seated, and they were all receiving drinks, water & having orders taken & we were still sitting there without having been asked for a drink order, nor was any water put into our water glasses. I waved to a different person & asked if we could get water & place an order & she pointed to someone else. After another 5min the original waiter reappeared & took our drink order & refills for our guests. This was truly a disappointment to have been ignored for so long, especially since the waiter had had the chance to ask if we wanted to place a drink order right after we sat down & he had come to the table with our friends drinks. I have to say I was also disappointed with the food. It just was lacking something. It was good enough to eat, but just not worth the prices. In the past everything had been WOW. It was sad to see how quiet it was as well. I'm used to seeing this place filled to capacity & it never even got close, on a Friday night! When we left there were only 3 other tables still there. Don't know if things changed because of Covid since this was the first time back since 2019 but whatever has changed needs to get changed back! And when it's quiet? Don't make people sit for 20min & have to flag someone down to place a drink order. Don't make them wait a minute if they are sitting at the table when you bring someone else's drinks to the table! At this time, based on lack luster service & food I can't say I would recommend anyone to Le Colonial. I have been talking it up to friends and our guests that evening for years and it is so disappointing it didn't live up to my past rave reviews.

45 mins between appetizer and main course is too long. Follow up on wine too slow. Had to ask to refill water. Chicken was tough and dry. Not up to standards I've had before there. Really disappointed.

Everything was just simply wonderful. Very unique atmosphere, especially for San Francisco. Every single plate we got was just amazing. The lychee martinis are the best that I have had in the San Francisco area.

Le Colonial is an absolute throwback to eras of subtle elegance and charm. The interior is a Casa Blanca esque feel, with rattan, beautiful tile, and tropical plants. The service was impeccable, and every suggestion was on point. Our waiter was friendly and really made our experience effortless and enjoyable. My guests were going to the Masonic for a show after dinner, and they made sure to course everything in an efficient manner so we didn't have to worry about any time crunch. The food itself was a treasure. I was amazed by the subtle and rich flavors of the food, and everything was executed beautifully.Honorable mentions include the Chilean bass, which was prepared in banana leaves and finished in a coconut milk sauce with glass noodles, the roasted Portabello Spring Rolls, Braised Pork Shoulder and Mustard Greens, and the tropical tequila and passion fruit drink. All in all, a phenomenal experience. My guests and I will be back.

Made reservations beforehand, while checking out their website I noticed they had a promotion that: if you spend a minimum of $100., you would receive a complimentary bottle of wine. Once we ordered I mentioned it to our server, he had no idea what I was inquiring about?, he finally admitted that he knew about the promotion and would check to see if they were still honoring it. After coming back from 2 trips he says, ok I spoke with the Chef and he will honor it. When it's time to pay, he brings the check and says: “ I forgot to tell you, they added a 30% gratuity with the promotion??..don't you think I should have been given a choice to decide if I wanted to pay $30 for a $8 bottle of wine??, SCAM!! Be careful out there fellow foodies... Update: GM responded immediately with an apology and desire to make the “mix-up” right, unfortunately that's where it ended, No one has reached out and I am still waiting for the promise to be fulfilled. I've attempted to make contact twice-to no avail.

Chef changed post covid. Ordered the banana leaf wrapped steamed sea bass with coconut sauce and glass noodles. Highly recommended! Service was excellent. Not busy if you go early. Good place to eat alone when traveling.Floors need updating.

Wonderful food with any vegan options. Le Colonial has a new chef who delivers some excellent, authentic Vietnamese food. He has been a chef both in Vietnam and in the Bay Area for many years.

Jose, our server, was a GREAT as was the food and all else. You have got to monitor your online presence better. Bottle O' Boggle offer noted in our res, was only offered because José pushed the issue, which he claimed had expired. Thank you José again. You have a happy hour menu . . . NO Happy hour in sight. If the Boggle is on-line . . . if the happy hour is on-line. Do it OR change it. I know the restaurant scene is very different post Covid, AND light -weight SF partied out on a Wednesday night two day after New Year's.

We decided to return to the Colonial for a New Year's Eve dinner. The food was good overall. We enjoyed crab cakes (real crab), although a bit too salty. My husband loved his copious beef entree and I loved the sea bass cooked in banana leaves. We both had a warm coconut tart which we enjoyed except for the crust which was much too hard. The filling though was delicious. We will keep coming back.

Excellent restaurant- seemed a bit understaffed- I enjoyed everything! The lemongrass fish was excellent as was the Ginger chicken- the papaya green salad was savory! The potstickers were interesting & tasty! We -ages from 7,15 to in our 40's enjoyed this spot! The is quite beautiful & has a lot of space!!

The food was good, but we were seated at 7.45 and did not get our food until 9.30. Faster service would have made the dinner much more enjoyable
