I really appreciate being able to shop in bulk for teas, spices, grains, nuts and beans. I can get just the amount of what I need. They also have a great selection of vegan food products like non-dairy cheese. The staff is always very helpful. Great store.

Never have I ever had a better grocery shopping experience than at Rainbow! It's such a magical place, full of things I've never seen before. The prices seem reasonable, the selection is magnificent, and the service is kind. The parking lot makes it easy, and there's usually someone from the store out there being helpful. I will go again and again

What a cool place. I wish it was in Portland. I didn't do a real shop here like a local would, so my opinion is biased. But I found that what they had included a great selection, including health and beauty products, housewares, bulk food, gourmet chocolate, and lovely cheeses.

I used to be in love with this place! They have a large selection and it's a co-op, most of the staff is really nice. In 2022-2023, prices went up significantly a first time, due to the inflation, which was understandable. However this week, prices were the highest I've ever seen. $9.99 for some already perished strawberries? No thanks. Once I arrived home I also realized that even though I declined a bag, the cashier charged me $0.35. Kind of disheartening seeing this place going down, especially after the recent bad buzz due to the pedestrian killed in the parking lot.

This is a typical example of the dangers of letting an entire group of employees have a vested interest in screwing it's customers over. I had called looking for Bulgarian rose essential oil. I got a man who answered and lied to me that it was available, on sale, and that I should come down and pick it up. I came down to purchase the stuff locally as a favor to the company. It wasn't in stock, according to another worker it hadn't been in stock for years, and when I spoke to the jerk who told me it was in stock, he told me that Bulgarian rose oil wasn't that good (In fact, it's the best in the world) in front of other customers. He then told me that I could look at what they did have, in a blatant bait-and-switch maneuver. This is the kind of crap I've seen before in the cheese department, too - Where I was told edam was a gouda- I suspect these people are taught to lie and swindle their customers for a commission and bonus. Shame on them, may they pay. Go Amazon.

Looking for beautiful, fresh produce to elevate your home cooked meal with? You've found it! Right below the freeway is Rainbow Grocery with its own parking structure so you can shop with ease. While prices are a bit high, I've never been to a grocery store where workers are so vibrant and friendly. This grocery store feels like its own little community that is FOR the community. Check out their cheese selection too! If you're lucky like me and go when it's not so busy, the cheese expert who works in the cheese department will let you try any cheese you want! (And they really know their cheeses.) Super fun and welcoming grocery store and my new go to for produce.

I'll start with the only negative; this is not a discount supermarket. That said, they have great sales prices on some fantastic products. There are dairy and non-dairy items that are next to impossible to find in other stores. Rainbow has a extensive cheese department with knowledgeable employees. They have a large natural cosmetic and sundry department where you can find all sorts of natural products that are also environmentally aware. The store stocks healthier varieties of cookies, crackers, breads, and more. They also have perks including membership points and a discount for veterans, and senior 60+. Their staff in all departments are friendly and helpful. All in all, a great store for the the healthier, environmentally inclined citizens of SF.

Love the huge bulk bin section. I've discovered so many wonderful food and herb items here and I'm so grateful.

Some of the employees here are polite and helpful while others are flat-out rude and/or stoned to the nth degree. One of those rude cashiers recently pulled out a bag of weed from his pocket for a little show and tell with his neighboring cashier while ringing up a customer’s items. And then he reached into his other pocket, pulled out some crumpled weed cookies and again showed his goods to his buddy. What employees do in their free time is their own business, but I don’t want marijuana residue on my produce. Then there’s the stocky employee (and a big 9er fan) they pulled off the street (which is awesome!) and jogs around the store pretending to mop the floor, bumping into customers, and feeding himself directly from the bulk bins. I’m guessing his presence is meant to deter shoplifters while he himself is filling his mouth with food directly from the shelves. The irony. Twice, I’ve stumbled and nearly lost my balance due to this employee’s NFL aspirations. OVERALL: Many of us shopped here for the culture and atmosphere despite the high costs. With those qualities gone, there is little reason to frequent this establishment. Rainbow is clearly an Instacart business now, serving some of the wealthiest people in the world. So we might as well save our money and shop at corporate stores that offer significantly better value.

This place is a drag. If your handicapped watch out lawsuits a pending towards this place. Handicapped people have special needs they won't fit into your uptight crap and don't expect them to that's against the law. You should welcome shoppers anyway they are able. And even offer it so. Sad you entertained angels unaware and treated them like trash. WHAT A DISGRACE.

be careful if you're African American waiting in parking lot while your wife shops. i watched a couple come out of the store then call the store to let them know that my car and another African American in the car in front of me were there. she actually waited by my car while she called then left.the store representative came out and walked like she was looking for something but continued to look at us both times she passed by.

Rainbow Grocery is a good market to shop for non-GMO, organic, and locally sourced foods. We like to buy their bulk items like spices, beans, etc. Somebody recommended some lotion, and we also buy it here.

Bought a watermelon to test this place out. Expensive, melon is soft and mushy, seems like its gonna rot soon and flavorless. Won't bother returning. See pics
