About The Box Shop
The Box Shop is a studio workspace for artists in San Francisco, with over 100 working artists. Their mission is to support the creation of high-quality art by providing shared access to tools, skills, and knowledge. Artists work out of 20' x 8' shipping containers and share access to a 5000-ft² shop and a 20,000-ft² yard. The warehouse metal shop includes a wide range of equipment for sheet metal shaping, welding, and machine work. The Box Shop also features a shared electronics studio with a 3D printer and a machine shop with drill presses, a mill, and a lathe. Visitors describe the Box Shop as a place where creativity thrives, with a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. The art produced here is amazing, and the community is incredibly supportive, especially for women and LGBTQ+ artists. Open studio events offer a chance to see the incredible murals and other large-scale artworks created in this unique space.
