Warning you will need to go through security on the south side (if you come from the north, they’ll make you walk around outside). It’s located in the basement. Another warning is that there is no signal (or Wi-Fi) bc it’s in the basement, so if you need a QR code, take a screenshot of it beforehand.Celipe (I may have gotten the name kind of wrong, but he’s an older gentleman), was very friendly and helpful. There was no wait either! I was in and out in minutes!

The pleasant experience made going through security worth it. I usually go to the post office closer to market street but today it was REALLY packed so I tried this one. Went about half an hour before closing and there was no wait! Totally worth it.

The person couldn't figure out how to print my label. I had to do it online and print it. Then when I returned before they were closed the office was locked. Very unhelpful.

Limited hours. Check before going. Be sure to enter through the public entrance and not the employee entrance. You will be turned around if go into the wrong entrance. Its quite a process to get into here. Show your drivers license, remove keys/phone, place items through scanner, walk through body scanner. Walk to the side to collect your items and put things back in your pockets.Take the elevator on left down to basement , there's a fed ex and ups drop off box near elevator . Follow the signs to the postal office.I can't speak for the post office itself but rating based on the experience to get there

Very limited availability. I always have to go to post office 4 blocks further away. The former p.o. at gg and Hyde has been closed for years

You need to know three things about this post office, in the basement of the federal courthouse. First, the huge plus. There is never a line. I have patronized it for that reason. I have had no wait, ever. That's in maybe a dozen visits. That is not true of any other post office anywhere I have been. I mean: not once has there been more than one person in front of me, and I'd say most of the time I stroll in and it's empty. Second, the big minus. The reason for the lack of a crowd is the hassle to get into the building. You have to go through the metal detector. That isn't bad. Sometimes, however, there are folks lined up for other business. It is reasonably brisk. I'd say even adding that into the calculation, you are still better off in terms of time, if you are anywhere near this facility. Third, the hours. They are erratic. I am not 100% sure what you see posted here or elsewhere is accurate. I've been there, and the place has been closed, when I thought it was within their business hours. If it's closed, go to Fox Plaza. You can walk in 7-1/2 minutes. There, however, it's always a long line. That gives you a sense of the difference.

Took an uber there specially to mail something urgent, because of the reviews that said there were no queues, only to find out it was closed on a Monday! The guards on Turk street entrance were nice enough to let me know that the entrance was from the back side. The guard on the other side informed me that the post office was closed and he had no idea why. It felt like he almost felt sorry for me. Google hours showed it was open though!

The post office itself? 5 stars!!!! Getting to this post office? Way more trouble than it's worth!! You have to go through a metal detector to enter the federal building, remove your jacket and hat (omg - my hair was a disaster), find the correct elevator, then go down a very eerie hallway in the basement until you finally get to this cute little post office with a very nice woman behind the desk. Upside? There was not a line!! I don't remember the last time I went to a post office without a line!! I will say this, though, it's the most secure place to drop off a mailable item!!

Came here on December 14th to mail three packages during the holiday rush. There was no line. Out in 5 minutes. Enough said.

ZERO FKN STARS. I had a package delivery attempt 4 days ago - they dont leave the package - I schedule a pick up instead of a re-delivery to prevent that from happening again. I get home - no slip left, have no idea where my package is. They then try redelivering my package - despite my CONFIRMED/APPROVED request for pick up. I still have no idea where my package is, because surprise surprise, no slip yet again. I look up the nearest USPS to me, walk there - closed down, google maps not reflective of that. annoyed. I walk to the second nearest, 45 golden gate, which wasnt really close at all - took about 25 min to walk there from the first usps i went to. I get there, the ONE woman working happened to be on break, I waited 15 min behind a half open door to the employee break room where I hear only the sound of her eating laughing and watching fuckin cartoons. she opens up from her break, I fill her in on my situation - "oh we dont serve your zip code, go to the usps on 1400 pine, they are associated with your zip code" awesome. I then walk ANOTHER 25 min to 1400 pine - tell them my situation - "oh we dont serve that zip code, you have to go to townsend" " I just went to 3 different USPS's and you guys are telling me the same thing and nowhere is helping me. I called your phone before walking here to make sure and no one was answering just rings and rings. I called the townsend location and they arent answering their phone either - can you at least contact them for me to see if they even have my package?" "no." "this is exausting, i just need help getting my package" RUDEass asian lady behind the counter not even being spoken to: "ugh, just go pick up your package." LIKE THATS WHAT IVE BEEN TRYING TO F****** DO THIS WHOLE TIME YOU RUDE A** B***** IVE HAD A HELLISH WEEK. MY FAMILY WAS EVACUATED IN SANTA ROSA. EVERYTHING IS F***** RIGHT NOW AND I JUST NEED MY GODDAMN PACKAGE. USPS is the most embarrassingly incompetent business in the US. ITS NOT HARD TO DO YOUR F****** JOB PEOPLE. So here i am, no package, 2 hours wasted, broken down completely in tears, on hold for 40 min to wait to talk to a USPS phone rep. Townsend now closed, without answering their phone for 10 straight minutes. ringing and ringing. GIVE ME A F****** BREAK!

Downside: it's in a federal building and you basically have to get naked through security and show government-issued ID. Also there's no cell service down there in the post office. Upside: there is no or a short line. Staff were cool.
