The Vogue Theatre, located at 3290 Sacramento Street in San Francisco’s Presidio Heights, is one of the city's oldest cinemas, opening its doors in 1912. Originally known as the Elite Theater and later the Rex, it became the Vogue in 1939 and has since thrived as a venue for foreign and independent films. After a successful 70-week run of The Gods Must Be Crazy in the mid-1980s, the theater was purchased by the San Francisco Neighborhood Theater Foundation in 2007, which has worked to ensure its vibrant future. The Vogue showcases current films, classic favorites, full-length documentaries, and shorts, while also hosting various film festivals. Visitors appreciate the charming atmosphere, affordable tickets, clean facilities, and friendly staff. Special events, like the recent Prince double feature, add to its appeal. The theater is also known for its unique offerings, such as free nutritional yeast topping for popcorn. Overall, the Vogue Theatre is a beloved neighborhood gem, providing a delightful cinema experience for all.
Big, old time theater. Good sound and video, but not the latest high tech.
