Friday August 19 @ approx. 3:00 pm. I expected the store to be a bit crowded on this day and at this time, but NO carts at the front of the store as has been the case numerous times before... where are the carts? They are in the corral at the back of the lot. Walk back with another shopper to get our carts. I had a fairly small shopping list so I completed it in about 15 minutes. Prices are absolutely through the roof per usual. Shoppers are backed up down all the aisles in order to get to any of the 'cashiers'. I'm now 3rd in line and I'm watching an elderly man with a FULL shopping cart of goods try to pack paper bags. It took forever. And he only started packing all of his good were checked through! Maybe he thought someone would show to bag his goods. There is NOT ONE bagger at ANY of the checkout lanes! We pay these outrageous prices and Safeway MANAGEMENT apparently says, "let 'em pack their own &%#$ groceries'. The checker had also been asking ANY Safeway employee to get a key to open up the wine cabinet for a customer. During my entire time standing in line, that customer had returned 3 times over the course of 20 minutes asking and wondering why no one would open the wine cabinet. When I finally reached the cashier, he was still trying to get the cabinet opened for this guy. I asked the checker where the baggers are? His response was "who knows, maybe they went back to school". Seriously? They just took off with no notice to management? The primary reason for 4-5, sometimes 6 shoppers and their carts backing down the aisles and waiting to be checked out is BECAUSE Safeway is too damn cheap to hire baggers to keep the lines moving at a good pace. There is a very high percentage of older people that shop at this particular Safeway and they have no idea how to expedite packing their own groceries. And they shouldn't have to know how!! SHAME ON THIS DIAMOND HEIGHTS SAFEWAY MANAGEMENT! In response to Dawn, Business Manager... I have no idea what page your are referring to? Is it a Safeway.com page or an Albertson's page that has a contact link? Please be a little more specific. Btw, where was 'management' with that wine cabinet key? Must have a been a pretty pricey bottle of wine that had to be locked up, heh?

Just moved into the area and have visited this Safeway four times in the last two weeks, all during normal (not late night or early morning) hours. Two of those times had incidents with profane shoplifters, the other two the staff and clientele were just generally unpleasant. The staff are completely desensitized to the crime and laugh about it with shoppers. Not going to shop here with my toddler anymore, will use it for the fastest, last-minute one-off trips.

Okay this time I am review the Grand- Reopening of this Safeway. They finally finished remodeling the store . I was more impressed that the bathroom got a make over. The prices of food got a make over too but that's based on inflation pricing . This is still my favorite Safeway in San Francisco.

This review is for flowery delivery on doordash (Bloom Cart) only. It's my friend's birthday and I wanted to send her some flowers. I usually order from bouqs or farmgirls but they usually need to be ordered far more in advance in order to get it on time so I was seeking other options. I saw doordash deliver flowers so I thought I should give it a try. Their selection was kind of limited but they were beautiful though. I'm not sure why this Safeway have such horrible ratings but i would give their florist section an A+++ on speed and quality. It only took less than an hour for flower to be made plus delivery and I was a happy customer when I saw my friend sending me a picture of what she had received. I'm so glad everything went smooth without any complications and the flower looks expensive. I think price is super reasonable for delivery and I would definitely recommend everyone to use this option if they need to send flowers to be delivered on the same day. :)

Increasingly chaotic, increasingly high prices, and nonstop renovation for no discernable reason. Tonight I just wanted some carrots and celery, but the entire produce aisle was torn apart. The employees said they were not even allowed to grab them for me despite being just around the corner.

It's good for in a pinch, produce section could use some improvement. When I checked out, I believed I have been overcharged $20 (discount on turkey not applied) however as there was no manager at the store, and even though the cashier thought I also should have been eligible for the discount, the cashier wasn't able to make the correction. I'm a little surprised how little support they leave their cashiers.

Too often there's no parking in the overloaded lot, so it's best to shop here off hours (weekend mornings and afternoons, forget about it). On the plus side, not parking there means your car can't get broken into by the rotating band of criminals who hang out there. Then you go in and shop, and you can dodge the blatant shoplifters stuffing handfuls of candy into their backpacks. 1 star for the store, plus 1 star for the cashiers, who are generally pretty sweet and deserve a better place to work.

I've never stepped foot inside, but I've done DriveUp & Go three or four times at this location. The first time, early on in COVID, the reserved parking spots were right out in front. They were conveniently located but pretty tight. Now, they've moved them to the side of the building, where they're wider and there's less traffic to worry about, but you still need to pay attention, as people drive around back there for some reason. No matter where the reserved parking spots are, the service itself is relatively slow. The busyness of the store is, of course, the main culprit, but even when I've come at what should be slow times (as evidenced by a relatively empty parking lot), it has taken the workers a long time to bring my orders out. They seem to have more of the items I order in stock at this location than at others, so there's less disappointment, but I really only use different Safeways to break up the boredom; the Webster Street location is still my home, even though it's not technically the closest geographically to my real home. I have no idea why they built a supermarket in this random location, but it's fun to come to, even with the sometimes-crazy parking-lot situation. I guess I'll eventually get around to coming inside, but as long as DriveUp & Go is free, why should I?

I've lived with this Safeway down the hill for the past 24 years, and it's never been a desirable destination. It's where you go when you need butter, yogurt, or maybe dog food at 11 pm on a Sunday night. The parking lot is small, so you may not find a place for your car during peak hours. It's only getting worse as the city embarks on an urban-infill binge for Diamond Heights. Don't expect the conveyor belts at the check-out stand to be anything but dirty and sticky. Expect an inordinately long receipt, replete with offers you don't want, delivered slowly from the machine while you and others behind you wait. In the past, it hasn't been unusual to find the wrong price (or no price at all) for items on the shelf. When in doubt, bring the sticker from the shelf to the register when you check out. The bakery may tempt you, but scan the lengthy ingredient lists before buying, particularly if you are even slightly lactose-adverse. Only the most expensive baked goods escape Safeway's corporate recipe book, where whey, high fructose corn syrup, and chemical fillers are the rule. They even put whey in the toll house cookies and the brownies now (the brownies went from $5.00 to $6.99 with a concomitant decrease in quality). On the brighter side, the produce is usually nicer than Trader Joe's, although the prices are usually in the nosebleed range. Don't pick up one of their bags of grapes thinking that it's a per-bag price. They sometimes have good prices on Driscoll strawberries, however, during peak season. Covid has at least reduced the tendency for lonely customers to strike up extended conversations with the cashiers.

They really need to do a better job with Covid safety protocols. I rarely see anyone cleaning the shopping carts and when I do they are usually on their phones texting, or just giving the carts a cursory spray. The cashiers sometimes wear gloves and sometimes not. The deli and meat/fish counter section is quite good, however. The workers there carefully clean the equipment, slicers, and the area is always spotless.

'I use this Safeway because it's the most conveniently located supermarket in my area but, after years of dissatisfaction, it's time to break up. It doesn't matter what time of the day or night you are there, or whether there are 2 customers or 200 in the store you can be certain of one thing: there WILL be a line and you WILL wait. You can get in and out of Costco faster. You may think the recent addition of self checkout stations (I honestly prefer a human interaction anyway) might alleviate that, but they are frequently closed. Add to that the declining quality and escalating price of produce, the virtually non-existent customer service, and the featured "digital coupon" specials in a store location with poor cell service and it's a recipe for frustration. I can't say I'll never go again (the convenience factor) but I can say for major shopping I'll go somewhere else. Monterey Boulevard Safeway is nearly as close, and, though they are a somewhat dated and smaller store, the wait is never as long and the service is always more courteous.

I live a few blocks from this Safeway and there's a reason why I avoided this place for years! The lines are insane at all hours, not sure if they have enough workers or they're all super slow doing their job. They finally have the self checkouts but what's the point if it's turned off 90% of the time!??? Honestly, I rather drive across the city just avoid the crazy lines at this Safeway.

This is not a review for Safeway, which is doing its best in these Covid times. This goes for Les, a psycho working on the express line who shouldn't be allowed to be in costumer service! He screamed at me, threw my groceries to the counter after I asked him to stop packing for me, he made fun of my accent and for being a foreigner and he called me stupid, just to explain it in a few words. I'm still shaking.

They have jacked up their prices and are NOT being careful about providing adequate sanitary supplies for their shoppers. THERE are NO hand santizers or wipes at the door, they are NOT cleaning their carts, the staff consists of mostly non speaking people that sometimes are NOT wearing masks..... STAY AWAY...shop elsewhere....this used to be a great store but it falls way short in these times.
