They are totally unprofessional! They never showed up with the appropriate number of people and lost all my friends 30 boxes of personal, cherished items.

Stay away from this company. Items received were broken and missing. Also, I had my items in storage in Livermore and the "Con artist" wanted to charge me for things that were not in my contract. They are horrible. The manager is rude and his assistants do whatever he says. No customer service and incompetent leadership! Run for the hills as fast as you can!!!!!

Bekins handled my move from the Bay Area to Reno. When I first had Cameron Ebersole come out for the estimate, I made sure he knew I wanted the truck to be just my stuff only! I had interviewed several other movers and found they take multiple loads and I did not want that, so I was fine with paying way more for that. He did a estimate that day and came up with just under 10 grand. The first day 3 men came to do all the packing, that went very well and I tipped each of them $50. The next day was the loading day and I found out that another family's stuff was going on the truck, Ehh. When I called to complain, the lady said there was nothing in the contract that specified that... so much for a verbal agreement!! I was ticked ! Then I was told that they would drop of there stuff first since it was in the very back of the truck. I didn't care for the driver at all, he had major attitude like that high and mighty personality and nothing to back it up, what a loser!! I tipped the other 3 men $50 again. Then a day for the drive up and they were to do delivery the next day. I assumed it would be the same men because they knew where all my very valuable antiques were packed... But when they showed up it was contracted men from Reno. The jerky driver showed up one hour late and the movers were outside waiting. Too much partying it up at Boomtown!! Super annoying and the other people's stuff was STILL on there so they had to use the middle door :( The 3 movers from Reno were really hard workers and we fed them lunch even the jerk driver, and gave them drinks all day long because it was soooo hot. They broke a beautiful glass and stone table that I had for 30 years and damaged a 100 year old desk from my great grandmother. The truck must have been baking in the heat :( I really liked one of the Reno movers and am using him to help move stuff to another home. Again I tipped the 3 guys $50 and they were so thankful. One of them said, "No one ever tips" I was very surprised especially when they work so hard. The driver didn't get squat from me. My daughters even thought he was rude, so I know it wasn't just to me. Anyway be careful if you hire this company, I was lied to about many things and I wasn't sharp enough to read the "fine print" .... The move cost me close to 11 grand in end plus the $450 in tips.

Bekins moved a few pieces of furniture and boxes for me from California to Chicago. I asked them to make sure they will dissemble the bed and bookshelf, and put them together in the new apartment and was told that's not a problem at all. In the end, all pieces of furniture are broken to some extent, especially the bookshelf, which has parts missing or badly broken. They are willing to have me file a claim, but requires I have the original receipt of purchase (I bought this expensive piece of furniture several years ago and don't have the receipt any more). The custom service is polite, but avoid this company if you can. Did I mention they charged more than $3000 for the move? One could have just shipped the boxes (as the furniture is broken anyway).

I spent over 5K on the move. SF to Vegas. They basically broke my bed, tv, sofa, table, shoe rack and bike. Pretty much every single big piece item I had and needed them to move, they broke it. the move was December, still have no resolution from the claims department. Which means I'm living with broken things until they get it together. Never had such a horrible experience.

I have been a life long customer of Bekins, both for moving and for storage. My most recent experience ran into a snag that I thought would mean a costly delay, but the folks at Bekins stepped up the plate and got the van rolling again!! The driver, Osman Alvarez, was first class, as was his helper, Roberto. I can't say enough good things about them, especially in light of the fact that they turned a bad situation into a good one (and with dignity, respect and the upmost of care.) I'll use them in the future, no question!!

I used Bekins when I moved from Martinez to Hayward. I've moved at least 10 times in my life and this was by far, the worst move ever. They: 1. Waited until the day of the move to tell me they needed another $500 because they under estimated the amount of stuff I had to move. I told them to go away and I would find someone else but I wasn't paying another cent above the confirmed estimate they gave me three weeks before. They relented four hours later and proceeded with the move. 2. They didn't have enough movers or a large enough truck so it took 12 hours to pack and six hours to load. It took another six hours to unload and they didn't finish until 3 am. 3. The movers were loud and slow. 4. They broke or damaged my furniture. 5. They didn't move two closets and a rolled up carpet. I had to with hold $447 of the final payment before they would complete the move. 6. They left all their trash in my old house and I had to clean it up. I could go on but bottom line - NEVER, EVER, EVER USE THESE GUYS!

They were the worst. Showed up 6 hours late. The would not load until I paid the estimate, then would not unload till I paid $500 more due to it taking longer than their estimate. DO NOT ever use them!

AWFUL. I reserved a time slot on a Saturday between 12-3pm easily enough. On that Saturday, I got a call, not from the office, but from the driver, at about 2pm, asking if it was "all right" if he arrived at 5pm! Bear in mind that I had also paid over $100 just for the parking permit for the moving truck, which was to expire at 6pm. When pressed, the driver said that a truck had broken down and that was why things were backed up. I was not happy with this and called the office staff, who were of very little help to me. They offered no discounts or alternatives. I was forced to spend more money on a move and go into overtime, which cost me even more, and I also had to spend time on another day moving items out of my storage locker, which was supposed to have been taken care of by Bekins on one moving day. To my mind, they could have rented a u-haul and brought it over, and/or knocked off a chunk of the moving cost to salvage their business rep. I was forced to call moving services like mad to find someone who could still move us that day. I finally went with One Big Man & One Big Truck, who pulled a last-minute move together admirably. Finally, when I called Bekins again to complain, I got the phone equivalent of a blank stare and no apology. They claimed that since I had not actually paid for services, that we had no business relationship and they were not liable, when in fact they entered into a business relationship the moment they agreed to send a truck over within a specific time frame. Don't go with these people, ever. (see review of One Big Man & One Big Truck..you get what you pay for!)

So I have to say that I always check reviews of yelp, although I have never actually posted, or even signed up for it until now. If you are looking for a moving company, DO NOT use Bekins Moving. I got quoted a price of $205 to move our one bedroom apartment into a townhouse 6 miles up the road. Not too shabby, I thought, while imagining the horrible effort it would be for my husband and I to move it ourselves, being that we just moved up from San Diego a year ago. In that quote, it said "free use of blankets to protect your wooden furniture" I thought, "great!" The movers showed up on the day, and when I sat down to complete the paperwork, the main guy shoved papers in front of me. I asked him for copies of everything in which I was signing, and he replied, "of course." One of the papers was regarding packing materials. He said, "if we have to pack your items, this is the cost of everything, like boxes, shrink wrap, etc." I signed it, relieved that I had packed myself. It was as soon as I got done with the paperwork that they proceeded to REPACK all my items. Taking things out of boxes, shrink wrapping everything in sight. At one point, I asked them to stop shrink wrapping, since I remember them saying it was $25/roll, and that it was silly that they were shrink wrapping a fake wooden bookshelf I had gotten at Target for $30. They told me that for insurance reasons (Which by the way, is 60 cents, per pound, per article. If they had damaged my 100 lb couch, I would have gotten a whopping 60 dollars for it) Needless to say, after everything was said and done, their unnecessary packing supplies cost me over $700, making my total bill $1100! (I was already packed!) They wouldn't unload my stuff until I paid them the amount due, and then refused to give me copies of all the paperwork I had signed with an itemized list of the packing material they used. (All of which, unneeded) I called to complain, their manager was "out" for 5 days, until I told them I was suing the company, then he emailed me. I got a $150 refund, out of $700 being disputed. Sketchy business. If I could give negative stars, I would do so.

Horrible, doesn't even deserve a fraction of a star. The company sold our appointment to a smaller no name untraceable company comprised of lazy and careless idiots after they charged our card. They quoted us at $500 but by the time the move was over, they charged us for additional items we never agreed to calling them 'material fees'. The total bill came out to $900. Prior to them picking up our stuff, we had boxed and wrapped the appropriate items. They insisted on wrapping and boxing the TV and would not move us unless we agreed. In a haste to move, we let them pack ONE ITEM. Where they proceeded to cut up 3 boxes to build a bigger box to wrap around the TV. When they moved our furniture into our new apartment - they took part of the ceiling by carelessly handling my bookshelf thus causing damage to the bookshelf itself. They chipped my NEW coffee table and practically ripped the door off of my stand alone bathroom cabinet. A day later our card was charged for the mileage, using a 3rd party company and material fees for the 3 boxes they destroyed and the tape used to wrap the TV. HORRIBLE. All caps. Hands down the worse.

I used this company early this month (Jan 2010) and they damaged my walls, ceilings, and dresser. Now they only want to pay me $30 to fix the damages. I am very unhappy, don't use them.
