We've lived here for a few months in an Alexander Unit. The 5 stars is for the staff, especially the maintenance crew, although I'd give the overall apartment complex 4 stars. The 5 stars:- the maintenance staff are responsive, fast at their work, and very friendly and professional- FRANCISCO, in particular, came to help fix a shower issue recently and was friendly, patient as I badly explained the issue, and quick with the repair. He's also great with cats. - NICK at the office is skilled at his job and similarly patient with my concerns. I misinterpreted the visitor parking situation and he was polite and understanding as he explained how visitor parking works. He was also upfront with some of the downsides of the complex and what the company is doing to address those shortcomings when we asked when we first toured the complex. - apartments have heat pumps which are much more environmentally friendly than traditional heating/cooling devices. Makes me happy. - pet friendly! Lots of dogs and cats!!- one laundry room with 5-6 washers and dryers PER FLOOR (at least within the H, I, and J buildings)The less than 5 stars:- pulling out of the complex can be a bit nerve wracking, especially when school is in session- internal hall ways leading to the apartment is very stuffy and warm, especially in the summer time- airflow/cross breeze within Alexander apartments is non-existent- bedroom window faces the wall of the closet which does not help with the lack of airflow- no bike storage at the complex - would love to see that installed either in a common outside area or within the entry ways of certain buildings- the on-site laundry machines are rarely cleaned (a common issue with contracting laundry machine operations)- occasional noisy neighbors even through the double pane windows (although usually shut it down by 11 PM)- there are occasional issues with unhoused folks being in the community and car break ins - the staff is working to address these concerns, but your comfort with this may vary

DO NOT MOVE HERE!!1-management is totally unresponsive and incompetent2-more homeless people, stealing laundry, and breaking in California then downtown San Jose3-all kinds of non-residents using parking, laundry, pool, smoking weed drinking. Totally out of control.4-the "secure gate" is literally broken more hours than it is operationalThere are a lot better places to live for the money than this place. You've been warned.also wanted to add that they like to advertise. They are dog friendly, which is true, but no one picks up after the dog even in the common hallways and stairwells you can find feces and urine on the daily.

did a tour to possibly rent and although the rent is very cheap, the carpet was dirty, the hallways smelled like smoke and the stairways were absolutely disgusting.

I’m happy I didn’t go with this apartment based off the reviews and calling myself. The guy I spoke to was rude. It was obvious he didn’t want to speak. Get rid of your staff or teach them the importance of customer service even if you fake it.

I highly do not recommend these apartments! Although they are gated so many homeless people get through. I seen one shooting up by the pool while children are around. And don’t get me started with the inside of the apartments…. Roaches, “the pretty white cabinets “ start to peel off and reveals the actual color of them. Takes them months to fix whatever is needed in the apartment. And the MANAGER! extremely rude, obnoxious, and all around a horrible person. Will find any reason to not fully refund your deposit. And in conclusion do not live here find somewhere that’s worth paying over $2,000 for a place to live in San Jose.

Shady business practices. Clueless or nefarious staff. Ripping people off for deposits and application fees. Super confusing and bad communication. Stay away!

Grove has a good location but in last year had a non responsive management office.I would say they need train front line staff to be responsible and respectful.

I lived here for three years, and I liked it, overall. Maintenance was always quick, helpful, and nice. Management was responsive and understanding. I had one carport spot and never had an issue with it. I always felt safe living there, and my neighbors were always polite and nice. The grounds are kept well. Any negatives are probably common in other places, too. One of 5 washers was always broken, and sometimes residents don't clean up, leaving dog hair or whatever in the washers. Management would send messages out reminding people to be tidy, but they can't control everyone. The floors sometimes squeak, which could mean you waking your downstairs neighbor or you being woken each morning when your upstairs neighbor needs to use the bathroom. Walls are thin, so I always knew when my neighbors would shower because of the squeak. So yeah, I guess the main downside is the buildings are very old. Main upsides are the atmosphere and people. Funny story: Once a bookshelf arrived at my door and since I had recently ordered one from Amazon AND one was at my door, I assumed it was mine. I brought it in and assembled it only to then realize 1) it was the wrong bookshelf and 2) it did not belong to me. Yep, I put on my glasses and took a look at the shipping label and saw that the recipient's name was not mine. So yeah, I accidentally stole and assembled someone else's bookshelf. There was no apartment listed on the shipping label, but I called management--I think it was Brian--and he was so nice. He took care of finding the owner and taking it to him. Brian even called me to let me know how grateful the owner was. Anyway, overall, I had a nice experience at The Grove. Thank you!

The building manger is a disrespectful man! he poorly behaves when any issues arises, specially if you are minority, I hear this from other neighbors experience as well, he is a racist for sure. No wonder they have such a bad reviews. I wish I had read the reviews before. To give more perspective, they did not clean the apt well before you get here, the cabinet was broken, the sliding mirror was out of position, and also the company constantly make money from towing companies, they have been asked and they avoid putting any signs up in those areas that are obviously guests parking, the only spaces with no roofs over.Avoid the headache and find yourself a place where you are dealing with respectful humans!

My son lives there, I visit him often. He is not happy with this place, poor management being the worst of all the issue. They do not know how to resolve any matter. I want him to leave all that behind and find himself a place with good management, and no unnecessary headaches and arguments over simple fixes that is apparently theirs to take care of, but she has a year contract and they are not letting him out of that without penalty.

I have toured this place with a friend and also have visited many friends who live here. The initial tour with Brian was wonderful as he explained everything to detail and was super friendly and transparent. However since then the management has changed and has made this place into a nightmare. Visitor parking is unregulated and will have the same people park there for weeks. The only time parking seems to be regulated is if they are looking to tow cars. Even then it seems like they pick and choose who they want to tow. Some cars are covered and the security never unwraps the cars to check their permits. All of the other reviews about the horrible towing situation are true ! They look specifically for cars without a parking permit and tow them even if they are in their own spot. If your parking permit is even slightly blocked from view they will tow you. What would be the point of taking down the car's model/make or license plate if they're going to tow it anyway without even attempting to double check with the resident? Asking the front desk for anything also seems impossible. They do not return phone calls and are also dismissive of problems. The room floor plans are pretty decent, but there are loud noises constantly throughout the day whether it be alarms going off or big trucks moving through.
