I took two pairs of boots to be repaired and ended up buying some Merrill's walking shoes. Great selection and service.

The service here is bad. Rude and disrespectful! No knowledge at all. Also rip off central

The fact that I could get my favorite boots repair was amazing. The fact that there was free parking made it so nice. And much to my surprise, they have really great selection of workboots and dress boots at incredibly reasonable prices. From now on it will be my favorite place to buy boots.

The man at Takkens was extremely nice and helpful at helping me pick out a pair of Redback boots. Unfortunately they did not have the color I was looking for but they had a plethora of other styles and sizes I was able to try on. I highly recommend Takkens to anyone who needs any boots of any style, you will be taken care of.

It's too bad they are the only cobbler in town. They've never been able to properly fix my shoes. I brought sandals in to resole and glue the strap into the sole. The first time I wore them after picking them up the heel fell off and the strap came unglued. I had to throw away the shoes and buy flip flops so I could continue my day. I reluctantly went back, months later, to fix a pair of boots and another sandal that needed gluing. They didn't glue the sandal correctly and there is now glue all over the black suede. Not only is the shoe not fixed but it's ruined! The job they did on the boot was embarrassing! They added a tap to the front of the toe, it was crooked and the heel they replaced on the boot wasn't even fixed properly. They did an extremely poor job. I do not recommend them but it really sucks we don't have any shoe repair in town that can fix a basic heel.

My sandal heel needed to be re-glued so I brought it in to Takkens on Marsh Street in SLO. We've taken our shoes for repairs and cleaning for decades, but the service and repair work have gone downhill. The woman handed me a ticket after I paid $10 to repair one sandal and clean the pair and said it would take a few days. I waited about a week before returning and was asked if they had called me. The sandals hadn't been touched. So I waited a few more days and returned again. The man behind the counter made me wait at the counter unnecessarily while he answered the phone and carried on a conversation, then organized the area directly behind the counter, and greeted customers coming into the shop until finally asking me for the ticket which I handed to him without delay. He gave me the pair and I walked out to my car. I looked at the heel of the sandal and noticed that it hadn't been re-glued. So I walked back into the shop and showed him the heel. He took it back and I waited for a call. No call so I came back into the shop and the leather on the heel was not aligned well. It was a sloppy job. When I pointed it out to the same man behind the counter, his answer was "well, we're not professionals. If you wanted it done professionally, you could've taken it to the Paso Robles location". His attitude dumbfounded me! Why would I expect a shoe repair shop to be capable of fixing shoes properly? As I stated,Takkens has changed and not for the best. Find another shop even if it's in another town. The staff here seem to be just sales people. Such a shame.

I brought in a much loved leather purse that was pretty beat up on the bottom . The purse is unusual not only that it's an uneven denim blue color leather but has depth to it with puffed stitching. The cobbler was not to keen on trying to clean up and find a dye to freshen it up. So a lovely woman named Tenneil (spelling?) took it upon herself to start mixing colors and created a custom blue cream dye that turned out to be perfect! She gave me the dye, the applicator and showed me how to do it ... and all of this for free. She was amazing and understood how much I love this purse!!! Check it out...And by all means, go see the folks at Takkens SLO. And particularly Tenniel

I took in my discontinued birkenstocks to get resoled. There was some mix up and the shoe repair guy not only resoled them but replaced my discontinued high arch footbed that was still in great condition. My soles still had ample wear but I was trying to be proactive to protect the footbed before the sole got too far worn down since the footbeds were discontinued. They are the only shoe that relieves my foot pain so these shoes were very, very important to me. Anyway, the sales cleark who wrote up the order charge me wrong and the repair guy goes off the price, so my issue is not with the repair itself but the in-store customer service and the store's repair ticketing system. It leaves a bit to be desired for accuracy. I specifically told the lady when I dropped the birks off that I only wanted a resole and that my footbed was discontinued and I didn't want those replaced. I told her if they couldn't be resoled to have the repair guy call me. She put a note about that, but I got no call and no where on the ticket did it say resole (but I did not see the store's half of the ticket until after the fact). Shocked to get back birkenstocks that were no longer my birkenstocks (if you are a birkenstock wearer you understand that the key to a birkenstock is the broken in footbed and in my case this specific high arch footbed that has been discontinued). Tennille at Takkens told me they were getting me a custom made high arch footbed from a 3-rd party shoe repair guy in the same the size that was accidentally replaced. I was really grateful for such good customer service that they were going to make the situation right. I had to call over and over to follow up on my shoes often without a call back because the store is so buys they can't respond. I'm sure she was annoyed but these shoes were key to my foot pain resolutions so not having them put me in a very desperate situation. TWO months later the birks were back but I ended up with NARROW width footbed instead of the REGULAR width footbed - my original shoes were regular width even though I specifically told them I needed 36 regulars. There is no way my foot will ever fit in a these narrow width Birks unless I cut my toes off because they are that much smaller than the regular fit. I'm sure that Takkens just wanted to be done with me, as I with them, because this was a never ending saga so they gave me the money back for the resole fee but ZERO compensation for for ruined shoes. Again, I appreciate the gal at Takkens, Tennille, that was taking the time to try to get this problem fixed because I know it was a headache for her and because she was having to correct the mistake of the gal that took my repair order, but overall I feel the store failed by not compensating me for the shoes that were destroyed and not just compensating me in the first place instead of string me on for 2 months. I realize they had an expense to get the narrow footbeds and shipping from the 3rd party store but it is not my fault that Takkens ordered the wrong size. Now I will have to try to get custom footbeds made at my own expense and my original shoes don't exist anymore and I have no compensation; while not new my original Birks did have a value to them - Birks are not cheap to buy! Very frustrating experience.

I bought some Sorel shoes from here to wear around the house. I like them, but ever since the first time I tried to clean them by hand, I haven't been able to wear them again. I put them near, 2 to 3 ft away from our wall heater and the soles just melted. I was completely shocked and saddened that I can't fix it. I put them in the cold garage, hoping they would harden up, but they're still too sticky to wear anywhere. I'm hoping you can fix the soles as I've bought a few pairs of shoes there or at least get a discount on the cost...
