Walnut Grove Park is an amazing park with tons of grass fields and a well maintained walking trail of packed dirt, plus paved walkways. The landscaping is beautiful, and there are cool historical buildings, including a heritage walk with the old Cox house. It’s a great place to walk, play, and bring kids of any age and dogs. The park is huge, with a walking path around it, 2 playgrounds, horse corrals, and multiple covered picnic tables. It is leashed dog friendly. There are good restroom facilities, a snack bar, and a building that can be rented for parties. Lots of parking is available. The park is nicely maintained, with several shade areas off to the sides of the soccer fields. It is very busy on afternoons and weekends due to youth baseball and soccer practice and games. The city of San Marcos also hosted a well-organized Easter egg hunt here with carnival games and jumpers for the kids.
