Went to them for the first time and they stained my suit pants. Went back to them to ask them what happened, did not demand a refund or anything, and they were combative, rude, and accusatory. There are many cleaners in San Mateo who do a good job and are not jerks – and this place isn't particularly cheap either.

I asked her to Hem my jeans and now they are visibly uneven as you can see in the picture. I mentioned it to her when I tried it on at pick up. She was dismissive and insisted they are correct. She was also rude when I called the first time to ask about their hemming service. Waiste of $28 and I had uneven pants for an entire 2 weeks trip.

My sister got her prom dress tailored here a few years ago, and I’ve been back a few times since. Very honest and helpful!

Don’t often leave reviews but I had a leather shacket shortened here and I’m so pleased with the results! It turned out even better than I imagined. I don’t often get things tailored but the price seemed fair to me.

I don't write a lot of reviews, but these folks deserve one. The suit I bought when I got married 20 years ago still fits great except the pants (as these things go). I want to be able to wear it again, so I took the pants to J's. The gentleman had me try them on and saw they needed to be let out about 3" (eek!). But sadly, he pointed out there was maybe 1.75" of fabric on the seam. He discouraged me a bit, saying he didn't think he could make it happen. His partner then came out and they discussed. They concluded it was questionable at best. I asked them to "do the best you can" and also resolved to diet/de-bloat a bit during the week they had them.
When I picked them up, PERFECTION! They used what fabric was there, plus he told me "I moved the buttons a little for you, too." Now I can actually wear my suit! $25 well worth it! Highly recommend!!

Looks like a nice husband and wife business, if you get the wife to help you, she was great for me on my first visit. Listened to what I wanted and did a great job.
I probably won’t go back because of my interactions with the husband.
I went back because I thought they did a great job the first time. This time I wanted to drop off a few pants to get them hemmed. The wife was not there, and the husband came up to me. I’m in a rush and told him I wanted to get them hemmed based on a standard length from waist to bottom. He started to explain that typically you hem from the inseam. I tell him I know that and I want it from waist to bottom, he won’t let it go and keeps telling me that different pants are designed differently and meant to be worn differently. I tell him I know that and I don’t care. I wear my jeans the same way for all styles, just waist to bottom please. He just won’t let it go. Keeps trying to explain to me the value of hemming from inseam down. I tell him i’m 45 and know how I want to wear my pants, he proceeds to tell me he’s older than me and has been doing this longer.
I ask him if he wants my business or not, he tells me I’m rude and he doesn’t want my business.
Lots of alteration shops around.

They are so friendly and the best price I found! I had purchased a long, unlined overcoat from old navy ($38), and wanted 8” off the length. I got quotes off yelp ranging $45-60, which I was willing to pay but fortunately took one last chance at J’s tailoring. I walked in with my coat and when they quoted me $40, I was elated. They had it ready in one week and I’m super happy with the alteration and service.

Great hemming bridesmaid’s dress, check; friendly and attentiveness customer service, check; fair pricing, check! The lady who helped me with my dress is so adorable and knows what she is doing! My dress looks spectacular and it cost me $50 compared to other places that I wanted to charge me $80 minimum! Plus, there’s plenty of parking in the street and for those going to the nearby Walgreens, there’s a Walgreens parking spot. Will definitely go back!
